My dog has “interesting” idiosyncrasies. Give him a stuffed animal and it will be annihilated with stuffing all over in a very timely manner. However, if it has a squeaker in it, as soon as the squeaker squeaks, he gets a very concerned look on his face and will carry it around extremely cautiously. Every once in while he will bump his nose against it to make the squeaker squeak. He has had a long alligator for several months now. These two sound and look like they would be awesome companions for my silly pup. Worn out squeekers indeed.

Oh, Haha — your dog sounds so sweet! What breed is he?

The shelter told us, “Lab, Shepard, Husky”. People who meet him have told us many other breeds that they “see” in him.
He talks like a Husky and has sheparding instincts. If we leave a little distance between us when we hike, he must travel miles more than we do running back-and-forth between us because he wants the distance between us to be smaller.

He unfortunately doesn’t play well with other dogs. From his earliest pupster days with us he would growl to play. I have heard 2 distinct growls from him. The low, watery, guttural deep scary growl when he didn’t like the skeevy looking guy that made me nervous coming to the backyard fence to hand me a landscaping business card. And his higher pitched smooth play growl. Sadly other dogs misinterpret his body language when he wants to play. I wonder what the difference would be if his first experiences weren’t in a shelter.

We don’t have nearly as many rodents in the back yard, but my daughter’s Guinea Pig gets checked out daily and receives nose boops from him. ๐Ÿ™‚

I tried to attach a video or picture but sadly my skills be lacking in that department.

That’s adorable! Maybe some sort of paternal instinct – he thinks it’s his child?

My aunt had a female German shepherd mix Belle, who, after she lost a litter of pups, went around the neighbourhood steeling squeaky toys and bringing them back to her doghouse. She acted with them just as she would with real puppies, if you took one she would look concerned and come and get it gently from your hands and take it back to her nest. It was both sweet and sad at the same time.

        Poor thing.

So much for the old arguments that animals don’t feel.

I was wondering if there would be any CO overlap…

Apropos of nothing, NTMTOM, you’re still listed in About Us as a contributor on Kurt Overlord.

Mike, what a classy dude you are, to link/give credit to C.O. on this post! What a good guy (-:
That makes me even more happy for you that you have this new site…

Yes, it has occurred to me again and again that NTMTOM has been beyond-gracious about that whole situation. Folks who fear that Teh Interwebs have meant the end of decent behavior, just haven’t met him yet! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m still wondering what the whole situation is!

This is so cute! The male koala is the one on the left – because of that band in the chest and no pouch. We can’t really see the front of the one on the right, can’t tell what gender it is. Though it’s smaller, so probably a female.

I think that might be their Another Done Somebody Wrong Song. Too funny. Ridiculous animal sounds make me happy.

They remind me of this squeaky elephant my grandmother had when I was a kid. It was an oversized squeaky toy so it had a deeper sound than they usually do. If you gave it a light squeeze it made a sort of half-hearted honk. (If you squeezed it as hard as you could and let go it almost sounded like a crying baby. I kinda wish I had taken it when my grandfather died. My grandmother let us kids choose one or two things to keep before she moved in with my uncle’s family. I kept a little brass teddy bear sitting in a brass rocking chair.)

Aw man I have to upload some of my parrot-vs-squeaky-toy videos for you folks to enjoy. And, of course, the parrot makes perfect imitations of squeaky toy sounds so it’s double the fun. If a squeaker wears out in a fav toy, Merlin makes sure he keeps on squeakin’ on.

Sounds great, I’d love to see!

    • Haha December 2, 2015 / 4:14 pm

There is a British shirt iron-on in there somewhere.

      • Faye December 2, 2015 / 4:24 pm

I would love to hear Merlin squeak for the toy!!
