Caturday Open Thread: All I Want For the Holidays Is…

As we all busy ourselves with holiday shopping, this site extends a warm welcome to our special guest, Santa Claus, who promises to begin his shopping by clicking my Amazon link in the sidebar. Thank you, Santa. By the way, your fly’s open.

AW! So sweet! And this cute little guy looks just like my Malcolm. Except Malcs would have already climbed up Santa’s leg, eaten off half of the fuzz around the boots, harfed it up on the floor, and then clawed his way back into Santa’s lap for pettins, oblivious to the havoc he created.

Thanks! I think harfed it up will be my new favorite euphamism!

      • jlamusings December 5, 2015 / 4:39 pm

It’s an onomatopoeia. I think so, anyway. As is “yak”. For example: “Oh, look, honey. There’s the missing ornament from the tree. The cat just yakked it onto the carpet.”

        • Laura December 5, 2015 / 4:45 pm

We’ve always used “horked,” but all of these words are equally descriptive and certainly accurate. I love the variety of terms people come up with to describe their pets’ activities!

          • Saffron December 6, 2015 / 3:04 pm

I use ‘horked’ too. Many times since my cats are barfers. 😀

        • Haha December 5, 2015 / 7:46 pm

Why for you disparage my name!?!

          • Alison December 5, 2015 / 8:19 pm

            That’s yak-tastically Yak-tackular!

          • Faye December 5, 2015 / 9:16 pm

            It’s a hork?

          • Haha December 6, 2015 / 10:30 am

Ha! Now whenever I see or hear about a yak, I will hear the name yak-hork in my head. Say it! It is funny!

Onto a different subject, but similar sound, something about alas poor Yoryak, I knew him well.

            A fellow of infinite hairballs….

      • Faye December 5, 2015 / 4:55 pm

If they snarfed it up it will probably get harfed back up.

Finally a word for the opposite of snarf!

        • Faye December 5, 2015 / 4:58 pm

Darn. Snarfed it down. Harfed it up. Looked at it sideways. I’m direction challenged.

          • Haha December 5, 2015 / 7:48 pm

So’k I’m always telling people to listen to what I mean, not what comes out of my mouth. 🙂

All I want for the holidays is the solstice to come around as per usual and the days to get longer again. I’m in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and while it doesn’t get very cold or snowy here at all, it sure is dark at 430pm.

Oh, and I’d like for the new Star Wars movie to not suck.

    Thanks, Santa!

    • Smartypants December 5, 2015 / 4:03 pm

I don’t even plan to go see the new Star Wars and I’m still hoping for it to be really terrific, for the sake of the folks who are looking forward to it – the older generation like me that can remember the first one in the theaters, and the younger generation so they can have that thrill for the first time.

      • Laura December 5, 2015 / 4:23 pm

That first Star Wars really was something, wasn’t it? We managed to snag the last two tickets for a showing when it had only been out a couple of days, and I’ll never forget how incredibly fun it was. And the lines to see the next two were just astronomical! (Oops, sorry for the unintentional pun.) But totally worth it.

We’re dating ourselves, aren’t we? But I’m going to go see this new one to see if it’s even partially as much fun as the originals. With older Han and Leia and all, I do have hopes. Not very big ones, but hopes.

I’m at the other end of Canada in Québec, no snow yet and still over the freezing point during the day but I agree, bing on the solstice.

And I ask is for the new Star War to be good enough to wipe the memories of the last 3 !!

What I want is for the cat to stop sleeping in the middle of the bed and forcing me to hug the edge of the bed so that I can get some sleep. 10 pound ball of fluff rules the house.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike December 5, 2015 / 6:48 pm

Welcome to the site, Carolyn! I sometimes babysit a pug who also insists on sleeping in the exact center of the bed.

      • Kar December 5, 2015 / 10:18 pm

Nothing wrong with taking your half down the middle

        • Carolyn December 6, 2015 / 2:15 pm

She looks at me with such sad eyes I have to give in and give her what she wants.

  4. Kar December 5, 2015 / 10:19 pm

BTW, thank you for the mental image of Santa’s sac. Didn’t need it.

Actually for me, it was the hover text who sent me on my run with a giggle-snerk.

      • Faye December 6, 2015 / 9:36 am

I was living in disbelief re the hover. Now I can laugh freely. I thought it was just moi.

All I want for Christmas is peace. Big peace on the planetary scale and small peace within my family. I want to remember the magic of the holidays instead of the chore that some of our traditions have become for me. And if there’s a good movie in the theatres, a good book and a new pair of pajamas under the tree, I will be right pleased.

    • 6rabbits December 6, 2015 / 9:03 am

      Hear, hear! and Amen!

    • Smartypants December 6, 2015 / 4:17 pm

      Well said, Birdcage!
