Peek-a-Boo!

In Australia, land of kangaroo,
They surely know a thing or two
Of critters cute and kooky too
With bills and quills and parts askew
Whose babies hide in pockets through
Which they peek and stare at you.
There are some dangerous creatures, true,
Who’ll hunt you down and pounce and chew
You into bits. It’s what they do.
But that’s a genre we eschew
And stay true to our cute purview
In which the quokka rules the zoo
O’er koala, wombat and emu.
For these can simply not outdo
Its grin at once calm and cuckoo
To cheer the heart that’s feeling blue.
And with a little one in the crew
Your sated soul will soar anew
As mama’s pouch he jumps into
Then turns and teases “peek-a-boo!”

Quokka. That’s even more fun to say than wombat. Quokka, quokka, quokka.

      Quokka bells,
      Quokka bells,
      Quokka’s fun to say
Oh what fun it is to say,
      Quokka all the way.

“Uh, ma’am…your belly button is smiling at me!”

    Wonderful verse, NTMTOM!

This required a double take, if not a triple!

Is this a preview of the family friendly remake of Alien?

I like to think it’s an adorable Russian nesting doll of happy little marsupials – the teeny one has an even teenier one in its teeny pouch, and that one has an even teenier one, and so on…

Move over, Dr. Seuss! NTMTOM is really on a roll – stories, poems, this site gets better all the time, always.

Mike, in another life I suspect that you composed Viking sagas or Homeric verse.

    Brilliant.
