Three Not-So-Wise Men

“OK, so according to this map, we’re supposed to cross the desert until we reach the mountains, then go around them to the left, and we should seeย the Bethlehem Turnpike, and we take that until we reach Babel, and then I guess we can ask for directions.”

Now I need to sneak some monkeys into my mom’s nativity scene…

    • Alison December 22, 2015 / 12:12 pm

Monkey wisemen + baby Jesus doll = impending doom! ????

    • Madame X December 22, 2015 / 12:22 pm

Hey, the original Nativity scene probably was a veritable menagerie – cows, donkeys, sheep, chickens, mice, the errant cat, a dog or two… Who’s to say the Magi didn’t bring along a pet monkey also?

      • Gigi_the cat lady December 22, 2015 / 12:56 pm

You forgot us! The camels! Without us, no Magi and no gifts for the kid. And what’s a birthday without gifts I aks you.

        • Madame X December 22, 2015 / 3:15 pm

True! There were camels also. And what’s a barn without an owl? There must’ve been owls there. And other birdies (other than chickens), perhaps a bat or two. And bugs! – ants and spiders and beetles…

Yes, I am sure baby Jesus had lots of animuhls around Him to keep Him company.

The nativity scene also needs a giant orange tabbeh.

No, wait, when I did that, my tabbeh grabbed hold of baby Jesus and flung him under the couch…..

        Oh hai!

This one always warms my heart….

Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.

During the night the folks came across this scene.

An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep.

He chose baby Jesus as his comfort.

No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.

Pup looks happy. Baby Jesus looks terrified.

Hiya Haha, Thank you for the doggy-in-the-manger photo as I saw it this morning and as my day got worse-n-worse (like just finished boo-hooing in the ladies room) I have come back to this to remind me that yes indeed, just when you need it, this world can provide all creatures a safe spot to rest and well smile ntmtom styles. Thanks again! P.s: I will feel better in the morning; work end-of-the-year really takes a toll.

Love this – our Nativity when I was a kid always contained a whole bunch of extra animals – ceramic caterpillar, china cat family, felt mice…

I once took a left turn at Albuquerque. It was excellent.

I guess these 3 guys aren’t following a star. Mercury was probably in retrograde. Sigh. So what else is new.

    • Laura December 22, 2015 / 8:52 pm

Isn’t Mercury ALWAYS in retrograde? It certainly seemed that way when a dearly departed friend of mine used to blame anything mechanical that broke down on it! To this day I always think of her when I think of Mercury being retrograde (whatever that means). Thanks for a lovely memory!

      • Deb December 22, 2015 / 9:41 pm

I know! It sure feels like Mercury is retrograde very often but it’s actually only three times a year. The next one starts on January 5 and ends on the 25th. It means that the planet which governs communication, intellect and all things mechanical appears to be orbiting backwards from where we are in the solar system. You are welcome for the memory! Your friend sounds like she was very cool ๐Ÿ™‚
