The Internet of Things That Are Cats

Among the highlights of the recent CES technology showcase were a number of “smart” appliances, including the TV that can shut itself off if it detects a dangerously low drop in viewer IQ; self-assembling LEGOs; car stereo systems that can play “Nearer My God To Thee” in the event of an impending crash, and from Maytag, new SmartKat refrigerators that loudly announce when you’re out of milk, tuna, and cat food.

Can I get a stereo that plays Highway to Hell? That’s probably more accurate…

      You and me both, honey.

I used to call the local college radio station and request “Drive That Fast” before I left work.

If they played it the dj would inevitably wish that the requester got home safely.

Do you think future cats will sit right in front of the kitchen replicator?

    • Faye January 12, 2016 / 1:34 pm

They’ll probably have a cat/replicator telepathic interface. “Mouse ragout, hot!”

HAHAHA! Great. And my ginger kitty does the same thing…I have a picture of him in the fridge chillin’ out. 😉

Awesome! NTMTOM, have you seen the videos of self-folding origami? (it’s an actual thing – I think from M.I.T.)

This cat looks just like my happy orange guy of many years ago – he was a foodie too 😀

Wow, those are like the “nanobots” from “Big Hero 6,” except they’re REAL! :O

Ilonka, that has GOT to be the most amazing thing I have seen in a long time–thank you! The possible applications run from amazing to totally scary.

Must be an orange tabby thing. Ours went into the fridge once and straddled a watermelon on the bottom shelf. To this day we refer to wrapping your arms and legs around someone as a “watermelon hug.” 😀

Yup. I had a male marmi walk into a small chest freezer just as I swung the door closed.
My brain: hmmm subliminal screen shot of cat in freezer. Brief pause. OMG cat IN freezer.
        My hand: opens door.
        Cat: saunters out. What ever.
