Dashing Through the Snow

Look who else got a snow day: Kumbali the cheetah and Kago the dog, best friends at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Virginia. With the zoo closed yesterday, the playful pair got to romp in a snow-white open field. Kumbali, the runt of his litter, was hand-raised by zoo staff and took a liking to Kago, a rescue pup.

I’m not big into zoos as I feel most animal enclosures are too small and animals deserve to live free but the one time I visited the local zoo in Abbotsford, BC, Canada, I GOT TO PET A CHEETAH. They had a blind cheetah there so they leash-trained her. She and her handler would visit local schools and what-not and try to educate kids on big cats and their environments. Anyway, they had her out and about on the day I was there.

She wasn’t nearly as soft as I’d imagined but meeting her was a cool experience nevertheless.

      I’m jealous. 🙂

Ha! Loved the moment where the two of them were romping and a leaf blows by. The pup immediately gets distracted and goes after it. Such a Lab thing to do.

Yes; and other Lab-things they do:
back yard exploits include: grazing in the just-got-green lawn; eating the beautiful cabbage roses; smuggling rocks into the house for later chewing enjoyment; getting snow all over the just-shoveled walk again; romping in the mud; stealing green or red tomatoes right off the vine and then hiding them; trying to dig a hole under the fence; scaring the living daylights out of the visiting squirrel; rolling in the dirt just after a bath; eating the seed, that was set out for the birds, off the picnic table….. and that does not encompass what they do in the house….!
(How do I know all this, you might ask: We are now on the fourth Lab puppy that we’ve had thru the years……..;)

Well, apparently you are a glutton for punishment!?

Haha! That was my favorite part, too.
      “Let’s play, let’s play, let’s…ooooh leaf!”

“I’m playing in the snow with my beautiful exotic friend and….OOOOH A DEAD LEAF!!!”

      *off like a bullet*

LOL–we love Labs and their quirks–my favorite, too, when he saw the leaf, a single, little, lonely leaf, and whoosh!, he was off to catch it! Gotta love them! Also, tho, those giant cheetah mittens are darn cute!

Hello, Nora! Hope you’re staying safe and warm up there in CT. Welcome to the site!

Hubster tells stories from high school (we graduated awhile ago cough, ahem) the local zoo desensitized their cheetah ambassadors by walking them around the field when they had marching band practice. Yep, he got to have cheetahs walked around them during practice. How cool is that!!!

I would so love it if my job description were “Guy Who Romps in Snow with Cheetah and Doggie”. I don’t know what wondrous acts that guy performed in another life to be rewarded with such a great job, but sign me up!

I also am ambivalent at best about zoos, but this was a lot of fun to watch. Such happy creatures!

That ain’t a snow leopard there. Kind of want to put a sweater on that cheetah.

Don’t see that everyday. I enjoyed seeing the friendship between such different animals.
