The Story of Violet

Violet is a tiny baby goat. The tiniest goat of a set of triplets, her mama wouldn’t give her any milk, to save it for the other two kids. But the staff of the Catskills Animal Sanctuary where Violet was born weren’t giving up on her. They bottle-fed and snuggled Violet all day and night!

And then they put Violet in a sweater and let her play outside for the first time!

“You must check out Catskill Animal Sanctuary on Facebook and watch this video of wee little Violet!” ordered Julie H. And I did. The end.

Goats in sweaters, always a win!

This tiny, dainty, little baby goat has completely and utterly slain me. I is ded.

    Ear flappage, squeakingks, drinking meelks..
    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I was so ded from the squeakingks, I forgot to mention the ears!

    • hilz February 3, 2016 / 2:12 pm

Don’t forget the teeny tippy toes!!

  4. allein February 3, 2016 / 9:06 am

The squeakingks! I am ded and now you can go explain this to my boss!

    • Nanosmom February 3, 2016 / 1:26 pm

Violet sounds just like my dog’s squeaky toy.

      • Kar February 3, 2016 / 4:44 pm

I KNOW, I kept looking around for it but then realized it was this little love.

  5. Julie February 3, 2016 / 9:12 am

I watched this video of her zooming around in her sweater at least 6 times yesterday. She just looked so happy to be outside and ‘splorin stuffs.

My fave part is when she head bonks the camera.

I couldn’t watch the videos from this page on my tablet for some reason; had to go to their facebook page instead. I think that happened last time there was facebook video, too.

My coworker heard Violet yelling in the second video and thought it was a cat. 🙂

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 3, 2016 / 9:21 am

Sorry about that, but thanks for telling me. I will add links to FB videos in future posts as a fallback measure for people who can’t view them here.

      • allein February 3, 2016 / 9:24 am

I was wondering at first if it’s my work network, since I can’t do videos on my work computer, but I can get to facebook from my tablet, so I don’t see why it should prevent a video from playing on another page. It seems like I just get a picture with the play button in the middle, but it doesn’t do anything.

But no worries. I went to their FB page from your link above. Just had to scroll down a few posts to find the first video. (The second video was right up top.)

Yesterday this video had 4.5 MILLION views.

This morning it has 9.6 MILLION views.

    This is one cute goat.

  8. Janice February 3, 2016 / 9:24 am

    The cute-meter just exploded!

  9. Maureen February 3, 2016 / 9:25 am

No matter what kind of day you’re having, these videos will make it better…instantly! As adorable as it gets!

Things that makes you go “Hummmm…”

Why would you say “that’s gets my goat” for being angry or annoyed?
I dont see anything in this little cutie or any other goats for that matter, that even hints at those emotions.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 3, 2016 / 9:44 am

Googling “origin of ‘gets my goat'” turned up a lot of conflicting information, so perhaps there isn’t a consensus on how the phrase began.

      • 6rabbits February 4, 2016 / 12:29 am

This seems to be the consensus from my idioms research and books: Race horse tenders used to put goats in the same stall as nervous horses; seemed to calm them down. (Sometimes other animals were used.) Rival owners/trainers would kidnap the goat [yes, HA!] hoping to throw off the stride of that horse, making it easier for their own to win. Bereft horse would become agitated and upset without his buddy. Therefore, “to get your goat” means to upset someone.

[I have heard people say “get your goad” instead, combining “get your goat” with “goad”, which has a similar meaning, but is incorrect.]

Maybe you are angry because someone has taken your goat, who you loff and cherish?

  11. Deb February 3, 2016 / 9:43 am

I have been to this place, it’s great! It has been a few years, but I’m glad to see they are doing well. At the time they had taken a number of the animals from the closing of the Catskill Game Farm. It was really sweet.

  12. viola1000 February 3, 2016 / 9:59 am

How can you not kiss the teeny tiny ting in a swetuh? *sigh*

  13. debg February 3, 2016 / 10:09 am

I’m in luv and my brains has turned to mush. Violet is beyond adorbs.

  14. Laura February 3, 2016 / 12:17 pm

The meelks and the sweater were insanely cute, but it was the ear flapping that turned me into total mush! I want a baby goat the size of a small puppy, who squeaks and calls for me — “Maaaamaaaa!” I want to be a baby goat’s mama!

  15. Faye February 3, 2016 / 12:36 pm

For me the waggie tail did me in. That climb onto the “giant” rock is so awesome. All adorable sweetness and lovinkins. Soul soothing.

  16. Kay Fabe February 3, 2016 / 12:50 pm

It always breaks my heart when a mother animal rejects the smallest of her babies. I was the smaller of my brother and I, and my mother gave ME meelks! :sniffle:

  17. AJ February 3, 2016 / 12:55 pm

Squee!!!! Baby goats in little sweaters. I’s ded, just ded, thunk. And she’s so tiny! I think my little 17 lb min pin is bigger than she is.

  18. Clairdelune February 3, 2016 / 1:11 pm

Count me among the DED from the Violet Cuteness Syndrome – I declare this to be an Official Medically Confirmed Syndrome. You know you have it if: the sight of a tiny baby goat drinking meelks from a bottle, or wearing a sweater while squeaking and gamboling happily, instantly induces the urge to kiss, cuddle and forever love and protect a tiny baby goat. Resign yourself, there is no cure , you’re doomed. 😀 😀

  19. Theevilqueen February 3, 2016 / 1:46 pm

Great. Note to self: Add “Goat” to ridiculously long list of animals I want.

  20. Jen8 February 3, 2016 / 2:10 pm

They named her Violet because like her namesake the Dowager Countess Grantham, she SLAYS!!!!

  21. The Commenter Formerly Known as Ricky's Mom February 3, 2016 / 5:33 pm

    Gah. Squee. Thunk. Ded.

  24. amyliz February 3, 2016 / 8:45 pm

Well. I think I am now permanently incapacitated by the cuteness of wee Violet but I am perfectly OK with that.

Welcome, Jeannie! It’s great to see a new face in the comments area. Come back anytime.

I regret I don’t have any news on Violet, though. That video was taken some time back so I assume she’s OK now.
