Science for Kitties

As you can see, Missy Midnight, the water pressure inside the balloon creates structural tension as it interacts with the outside air pressure. Meanwhile, the slight adhesive properties of the water will cause it to retain the shape of the container even after the container is removed. So once the balloon is burst, at what point will you realize that it wasn’t a good idea to stand there?

Watch the wee moggie’s eyes! They get REALLY big between 0:01 and 0:03 and you can actually see the realization of Impending Doom.

“Meanwhile, the slight adhesive properties of the water will cause it to retain the shape of the container even after the container is removed.”

This excellent sentence immediately brought to mind Thurber’s “Here Lies Miss Grody,” despite its lack of any reference whatsoever to water, balloons, or cats.

    Poor kitty!

I saw that same principle in action once on an airplane that suddenly dropped about 500 feet during a storm. The silly people who’d ordered drinks continued to hold their cups while the cup-shaped liquid hung in midair weightless but still in the intact shape for a moment before splashing all over them. 😀

And whoever thought to give this kitty a water balloon to break has a sick mind. I like it.

Yup. The laws of Physics can splat or spill. And gravity sucks.
