More Fun With Statistics

Reader Faye asked about statistics for this site. In the days following Cute Overload’s announcement that it would cease publishing, use of this site jumped up and has remained at a higher level than before.

Faye also asked if I could plot users on a map. Google Analytics, the tool whose charts you see here, doesn’t give me that information, but it can tell me which countries provide the most readers. Here’s what the top ten looked like for a recent two-week period.

Do you know what views Cuteoverload was getting?
Strikes me what you are getting now, whilst impressive, isn’t enough to cover the overhead.
One challenge you have I think is the site name – it means something to dedicated Cuteoverload followers but not to new customers.

Hi Paul, welcome to the comments. Without providing specifics, you are correct that I’m getting only a fraction of the traffic that Cute Overload had. As for the name, I’m kind of stuck with it for the short term.

That surprises me. I would expect a higher readership over time:

You’re going to need a bigger server.

I think the name is fine. It’s your brand. It will catch on.

On a side note, I looked the other day to see how many comments that final CO post was up to, and it was a little over 800. I’m guessing it’s the most commented post ever on there.

Is there any chance that Meg would be willing to post something on CO, suggesting that people visit NTMTOM’s site? I know a few CO commenters have mentioned NTMTOM, but something coming from her might carry more weight. Also, there are probably a lot of non-CO fans who would appreciate NTMTOM’s wit and sophistication. The question is how to reach them.

I’ve posted links from here on Facebook and a few times on a blog that I comment frequently on, in hopes that some folks might check it out. Unfortunately, I don’t post much anywhere else.

I seem to remember that Meg did say something in the comments to the last post on CO. Her husband, in the comments, did recommend NTMTOM’s site.

It takes time for a site to gain momentum, but I agree the site name won’t draw cute or humor lovers who are searching. I rarely post anywhere else, I don’t “do” social media, so I’m no help. If someone comes up with a way to spread the good news, let me know!

Your site is fabulous, NTMTOM, and people don’t know what they’re missing!

Any chance there will be a “tell all” post that “blows the lid” off what really went on at CuteOverload?

    • Paul February 14, 2016 / 8:21 am

I don’t think there is much to tell that hasn’t been told, it simply wasn’t making money and its a huge full time effort to run a blog with that much content and traffic. That’s what Meg effectively said.

No Pagan ceremonies involving goats and black, hooded robes?

        • Smartypants February 14, 2016 / 10:20 am

Nope, just bebeh goats in sweateauws πŸ˜€

            Good one.

k you missed the humorous tone I intended.

Thanks for the info. Guess there are not many people here carrying the Portuguese flag.
Regarding reader numbers I wouldn’t worry. As they say: if you build it, they will come.
Besides the ones that are already here seem to be a pretty good lot!

I follow you using feedly.com, but rarely ever go to your site. Would this be accounted for in your stats?

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 15, 2016 / 7:41 am

Hi Kerry! My stats only count visits to pages on this site, not readers using Feedly. Perhaps there are methods for tracking that readership too, but I don’t know what they are at the moment.

But however you read the site, I’m happy that you do. πŸ™‚
