We Have Only Eyes For You

The Hot Dogย Thieves are about today, they’re crafty and stealthy and wise
They lurk in dark places, quite out of the way, so that all you can see is their eyes
So don’t get distracted; keep watch on your food, or I’ve got a terrible hunch
If they’re in the shadows, and they’re in the mood, you’re going to be losing your lunch.

Lurking in the heart of the kitchen…..with 4 eyes.

  2. allein February 15, 2016 / 12:55 pm

Wow. This might be my favorite post so far. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Love the hover text! ?

    • allein February 15, 2016 / 1:44 pm

I didn’t even see the hover text before. Makes it even better!

    • 6rabbits February 15, 2016 / 4:26 pm

      Jedi mind trick!?

        • 6rabbits February 15, 2016 / 7:41 pm

Hey, NTMTOM, how did you know I REALLY needed a belly laugh this Monday morn? ๐Ÿ™‚
Am well acquainted with the evil stare whenever there’s something that looks appetizing to She Who Lurks in Shadows…
I hope the human in the house has a strong heart – can you imagine walking into the kitchen after a night of heavy partying, and seeing a chair staring at you?

    • allein February 15, 2016 / 1:45 pm

A chair with four eyes, no less!

  5. dubravkamcvmd February 15, 2016 / 1:10 pm

Those eyes! The yearning! Quick! Cut those frankfurters up into pieces the size those kittehs prefer!

  6. Laura February 15, 2016 / 1:10 pm

Mother Nature certainly does know how to do camouflage well! Even with the eyes barely visible and the ear outlines in the mirror, it’s almost impossible to see the outline of those (I assume) beautiful kitties. What gorgeous house panthers!

  7. AJ February 15, 2016 / 1:21 pm

I used to have one of those house panthers and it was so hard to take a picture to show off how gorgeous he was. I think this was the only good one I got of him over all the years I had him.

    • Gigi_the cat lady February 15, 2016 / 1:27 pm

What a pretty boy! I also ave a “house panther” but mine looks more like a billard 8 ball than a panther. LOL!

      • Haha February 15, 2016 / 2:04 pm

I do not unfortunately have a panther but a pooch. Either the empty black hole is achieved in pictures, or washed out bright lights. Here is his latest rocket dog video.

Edit; I will email it to NTMTOM and maybe he will put it here as my abilities do not run towards making KBs smaller. But rest assured, Joey is quite an energetic black doggie of whom it is difficult to get good pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

I just got that video and posted it to the main page, which was easier than trying to embed it here, plus it gives you something new to comment on.

        • Laura February 15, 2016 / 7:15 pm

Our beautiful new greyhound Melody is coal black; she has one white toe on each black foot and a small white spot on her chest, and the rest of her is black, black, black. And she is totally impossible to photograph! I understand, believe me. But Joey is adorable! I’ll bet he’s fun to try to keep up with! ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Haha February 15, 2016 / 8:32 pm

He is faster than most dogs, but I would love to see him try to keep up with your beauty in the picture by your name.

            • Laura February 16, 2016 / 12:03 am

He’s fast enough he might give her a run for her money! We’re still new enough greyhound servants that we are constantly astonished by the way she eats like a pig, sleeps 90% of the time, never gains an ounce of fat, and then every few days suddenly flies around the back yard so fast you can barely see her. When she opens up, you can see why her breed is built the way it is! Poetry in motion for sure.

            • Haha February 16, 2016 / 6:43 am

Laura, what a glorious mental picture you have painted. Than you! And I hope she brings you many years of that astonishing joy!

      • 6rabbits February 15, 2016 / 4:18 pm

        What a beautiful ca…ahem…house panther!?
I once had a bun, Alexi, who was all black except for an itsy-bitsy white spot on his nose. You’d locate his nose first and then you could see his face! (He was a spirited, funny and cuddly companion who was taken too soon–still miss him 8 years on.)

    • Madame X February 15, 2016 / 3:58 pm

“House panther”. I like that. But more importantly, Shiraz, the resident panther at Casa de Madame X, approves that her nature as a wild, dangerous beast be finally acknowledged with a moniker worthy of her heritage.

Now excuse me; I am summoned to provide noms, chin rubs and amusement…

    • Jan February 15, 2016 / 6:49 pm

The trick with photographing black animals (or any other very dark object) is to set the exposure compensation down at least -2/3 to -1. Most point-and-shoot cameras have this ability, although I don’t know about most phones.

Although my cat here was almost more difficult to photograph because of the brightness of her eyes than the darkness of her coat. As a semi-feral rescue, she was very panther-like!

        Gorgeous cat/panther and picture!

  8. Gigi_the cat lady February 15, 2016 / 1:27 pm

It’s not a shadow it’s the Vashta Nerada! Whatever you do, stay out of the shadows!

    • Saffron February 15, 2016 / 4:57 pm

      ๐Ÿ˜€
I thought they ate humans, but I guess tasty hot dogs will do in a pinch.

      • Gigi_the cat lady February 15, 2016 / 5:42 pm

Well they did eat a chicken leg, so I thought they wouldn’t say no to hot dogs.

  9. Stressfactor February 15, 2016 / 2:49 pm

I think the headline should maybe read: “I Only Have Eyes for Food” considering. Those are some intense eyeballs that chair has!

  10. Ellie's Maid February 15, 2016 / 2:53 pm

Hm . . . there’s something weird about that photo. How can the chair be so tall in the front pic, but the reflection in the mirror has no chair back? Hm . . .

    • allein February 15, 2016 / 2:58 pm

I had to look again, because I was a little confused there, too. The chair back is up against the wall/mirror, so the reflection of the chair looks like it is part of the chair itself. Then the kitties must be more toward the front edge of the chair.

        • Haha February 15, 2016 / 3:12 pm

I had to look again as well because once I saw the eyeballs on the chair I did not look any farther. Note to self, savor he photos and all they offer. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • allein February 15, 2016 / 3:36 pm

            Always good advice.

      • Ellie's Maid February 15, 2016 / 4:10 pm

OK, I think I understand now. I think you are right! (I am a background addict! I cannot look at a picture without looking examining the background first!!)

        • allein February 15, 2016 / 4:15 pm

At first I thought the chair had stitching across the top, then I realized that’s the line where the top meets the reflection.

I was too busy trying to figure out what was funny before I noticed the eyes. I was like, “it’s a plate of hot dogs and a chair…I don’t get it.” And then I was just looking at the eyes.

          • 6rabbits February 15, 2016 / 4:21 pm

Didn’t even notice the reflection oddity; too busy trying to figure out where cat stops and chair begins!

            • allein February 15, 2016 / 4:30 pm

I know! I was on my tablet when I first saw it, and I literally could not see anything but the eyes. When I got back to my desk I looked on my computer and I could make out the ears on the left kitty, and a bit of fur on the right.

            • Saffron February 15, 2016 / 4:58 pm

I was trying to identify all the toppings on those hot dogs…..

            • allein February 15, 2016 / 6:42 pm

Saffron – Looks like chili cheese dogs to me. ๐Ÿ˜›

  11. Kar February 15, 2016 / 6:04 pm

Its like the Vashta Nerada, but furrier.

  12. bossyterriers February 15, 2016 / 6:06 pm

I feel like I am being watched lol

  13. cheshirekittehkat February 15, 2016 / 6:38 pm

    Please, please, please don’t anybody sit down on that chair while it is still kitteh-occupied……;
(My imagination is running rampant right now ruminating about what will happen should an
unsuspecting person decide to relax and plant their posterior on that particular piece of furniture…….!!!)

    • SoccerSue February 15, 2016 / 9:57 pm

Tell me about it! We have two black leather chairs in our home office that our little house panther loves to sleep on. After a few near misses, she learned to announce herself when we come in the room.

  14. Faye February 15, 2016 / 6:38 pm

I wear my sunglasses at night… Thank goodness these two do not day or night.

  15. tara February 15, 2016 / 8:47 pm

Speaking of foodies and kitties – here is my Jacques. Named for Chefs Jacques Pepin and Jacques Torres. Brie? yes please, the riper the better. Bacon? cooked only, Patรฉ – always. Chiken tikka and Dal Makhani? guard the plates. Just to be clear – I do not give him these foods – he is entitled to them – when they are in his house.

    • fkaWaldenPond February 16, 2016 / 2:03 am

Jacques is a very distinguished puddish; he has a stylish, subtle ascot even when he wakes up. ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thank you for sharing!

  16. fkaWaldenPond February 15, 2016 / 9:31 pm

Hey! I think this is a rare photo of the French cousin to ‘Chairy’ from Pee Wee’s Playhouse. If I recall correctly, he is known as ‘Quatre Eyes Fauteuil’ or en anglais, ‘Four Eyes Fancy Chair’.

    • Faye February 16, 2016 / 12:39 am

      Look, he’s delicious!!

      • fkaWaldenPond February 16, 2016 / 12:55 am

All I say to Quatre Eyes Fauteuil is…’If you love it so much, why don’t you marry it?’

  17. Michael February 16, 2016 / 12:04 am

Brought to you by the miracle of Photoshopยฎ.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 16, 2016 / 12:06 am

And there they are, plain as day! Nice detective work, and welcome to the comments section!

    • Faye February 16, 2016 / 12:49 am

Digital reverse invisibility cloak. “Darn that Photoshop” say the kitties.

  18. Mr. Max February 16, 2016 / 1:33 am

I expect a big mouth (or double mouth) to open up in the middle of that chair and start talking. And that’s without the benefit of recreational drugs.

    • Haha February 16, 2016 / 6:51 am

Have you reserved the movie rights yet? Because now I can see it as well!

  19. murkle46 February 16, 2016 / 6:10 am

It is clear those poor kitty-cats have never been fed never ever their whole lives.
