A Toast to Craftsmanship

Because today is #NationalToastDay, this blog raises a toast to the artisans, the makers, the craftsmen whose spirit and devotion keep our cherished traditions alive for generations to come. In this video, we meet one such humble soul, and from his dedication I hope we may all draw inspiration.

Oh, Ha ha! I’m beside myself with laughter. THANK YOU for posting this link. I’m adding it to my favourites. YEAH TOAST!

This is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time, and I mean stupid in the best way.
Iā€™m at work with my hands over my mouth silently crying from laughter.
    Well played NTMTOM, well played.

      Oh, yeah.

Me too! I think my co-worker thought I was crying at my desk. Um, no. Just breathless from laughing so hard. šŸ˜€

I totally love toast, not too toasty, but enough to make that crispy sound when you spread the butter on. I am a fanatic about getting it out of the toaster before it browns so maybe I am also a toast artist.

And, don’t forget about powdered toast.

Damn my workplace and their blocking of videos!

This video made me feel all warm and TOASTY!! inside. ?

Seriously, I get upset when I’m in a rush and my toast doesn’t come out toasty enough and the butter makes a hole in it. ??

I live to get the bag twirl tight enough so it is smaller than the hole in the plastic thingie. If the bag bulges out of the hole I have to twirl it again.

I’m not a perfectionist about anything else in my life but toast.

So as funny as the video is… Real toasting perfectionists walk among you.

I don’t get the whole bread thing myself, sorry Oprah. For me its about what you pile on top of it. Butter, jam, cheese, custard, pizza toppings, sandwich fixings, etc.

That said, I’m impressed that he uses off the rack bread. No fancy-smancy bakeries for this master.

Mmmmm…..toast. I personally like toasted crumpets: all those nooks and crannies for hiding maximum butterage.

    • Faye February 23, 2016 / 4:28 pm

Don’t get me started on English Muffins with all the nooks and crannies. Great butterage in there.

Thank you Saffron! Yup!! Yummy!! And they have little holes all around so you can twist them muffins open. One half is always thinner so it toasts darker. Your toasting technique better be spot on or one edge burns while the other half stays doughy.

I’ve eaten a lot (too much) of bread in 64 years.

Well I don’t mean to start a controversy but there is the age old debate of fork splitting versus slicing the muffin in half with a knife….

      • allein February 23, 2016 / 8:00 pm

On my way home I bought whole-wheat English muffins and cinnamon raisin bread. There will be toasting tonight. šŸ™‚

Fork or knife to open the English Muffins?

I vote fork. It preserves the texture.

          • Haha February 23, 2016 / 10:46 pm

            In agreement for Forkage.

So glad I’m not the only one with a passion for toasted, buttered English Muffins. My all-time favorite comfort food!

  9. Gigi_the cat lady February 23, 2016 / 5:21 pm

I love toasts and English muffins but by far my favorites are French toast with butter and maple syrup!!

I’m lucky, our local Co-op gets wonderful sourdough mini ciabattas every day – plain, herb/cheese, olive, and chocolate (I’ve never quite got the bread-and-chocolate thing, but I had a co-worker who swears by it).

Sartorially noting, I am impressed with his outer plaid on inner plaid layers.
