On the Corgi Factory Tour

Now if you’ll come in here, this is the Drying Room. See, after the Corgis come out of the extruder, they move on to the leg stubbifcation process, and there’s always a little water splashes up onto them from the equipment. So we gotta give ’em a little wipe-down before they move onto Packaging so’s they won’t spoil.

I’ll be in the gift shop, Andrew Y.

That lady has those corgis cowed.
I had a corgi for 15 years and while I guess I was nominally in charge, having the opposable thumbs and the drivers license, we were really sort of co-alpha.

I counsel people not to get a corgi if they object to being pushed around a little bit by a dog. That’s the fun of a corgi!

  2. Kar February 23, 2016 / 3:42 pm

    1. How many corgis does this woman have? They’re dogs, not potato chips.

    2. How does she not kiss every nose or belly after the towel swipe.

    3. She swipes the belly but not the wet lets and paws? That makes sense, kinda.

    • bananabreadhead February 23, 2016 / 4:01 pm

I wondered about that too, Kar! Absolutely no kissing! How strange.

    • Maureen February 23, 2016 / 4:01 pm

#1 – agreed. Answer is TOO many.

  3. birdcage February 23, 2016 / 3:48 pm

Wow, that’s a system! She must be a breeder or something? This is a really stark reminder that there’s unequal distribution of corgis in the world.

    • Maureen February 23, 2016 / 4:01 pm

Hm yes, I immediately thought breeder as well. Her “temperament” and their reactions SEEM to tell that tale. Made me sad.

      • Murray February 23, 2016 / 4:11 pm

How fat they all are is what made me sad. Over feeding is a cruelty, not a kindness. Maybe that’s how she got them in her thrall! (Duh!)

    • Gigi_the cat lady February 23, 2016 / 5:13 pm

Yes definitely a breeder, those are not pets.

  4. cheshirekittehkat February 23, 2016 / 4:36 pm

    Animals know how you feel about them…. looks like the Wiper-Upper Person lost it a bit when she grabbed the black & white Corgi by the fur and smacked him after her perfunctory toweling…..;
Sorry,! She comes across, in my opinion, like Wanda the Witch…..! It’s how I honestly feel..
If you don’t like dogs, you shouldn’t have them as pets, or work with them…..
Poor little guys……..;; Maybe they’ll get adopted elsewhere…

  5. myiglets February 23, 2016 / 4:55 pm

On the other paw, the tour was hilarious!

  6. Flowerfanatic February 23, 2016 / 5:14 pm

I agree with everyone commenting on how she treats those poor Corgis. Her heart sure isn’t in the right place especially when she knows it being filmed. Hard telling what she does to them at other times when the camera ISN’T running. She’s very close to animal cruelty. I can understand why I heard growling in the background. Her treatment leads to those dogs being very uptight and not being the calm dogs they should be. That leads to aggressiveness which was evident with the growling. I don’t think I’ve seen a video so void of animal love before. Yes, it was ‘cute’ that they waited in line to enter BUT they probably did it because of the ‘bashing’ they’d get if they tried to get in sooner. Sorry but this is almost enough to charge her with animal cruelty. Plus, as some others said, there are WAY too many dogs in that house, breeder or not. She’s frustrated and it shows.

    • Julie February 23, 2016 / 7:43 pm

There is NO possible way that this woman would ever be charged with animal cruelty based off this video.

You are making a lot of unfair assumptions about this woman. I hope the world is more kind to you.

  7. Not That Mike The Other Mike February 23, 2016 / 5:34 pm

Thanks for all the comments. I do regret that I didn’t ask these questions myself when viewing the video. Sometimes I wish I had you watching over my shoulder while I’m working.

    • Julie February 23, 2016 / 7:17 pm

On the other hand, just because the internet can be a little “judge-y”…

There are a lot of rescues with that many dogs times 2. I got one of my dogs from a chihuahua only rescue group run out of a woman’s home that she said can have from 6 to 12 dogs at any given time.

Also, I love my dogs more than anything on the planet, but I don’t give them kisses every time they come inside from doing their business. And when it is wet or icy outside, I wipe down their paws and they HATE it and squirm to get away and they GROWL at me the whole time. One of them hates getting his teeth brushed and squirms and whines the whole time. Neither of them like baths. They also hate having to put on clothing to wear when it’s below freezing outside. If someone videotaped me doing any of these things, some of you would probably say it’s “abuse”.

There are a LOT of things we have to do to our dogs that they don’t like. It’s not abuse.

Maybe y’all are reading a little too much into this video?

And I thought the video was funny and I enjoyed it.

      Commentroversy?

      • Kar February 23, 2016 / 8:32 pm

The vet suggested that I brush my cat’s teeth.

Bought the tuna-flavored paste, the fingertip brush from petsmart, read a bunch of articles and videos online.

One of us drew blood and it was very traumatic for both of us. I never tried that again and the cat never went near the bathroom again.

        • allein February 23, 2016 / 9:40 pm

Well that’s one way to keep ’em out of the sink…

        • Julie February 23, 2016 / 9:48 pm

My first dog I got as a puppy and almost every fellow Chihuahua owner I talked to said to me that they wished they had brushed their dog’s teeth. About half the people I met said they had to have ALL the teeth on their dog pulled. Tooth loss can shorten a dog’s life and I didn’t want that for my pup. Luckily for me he is very food motivated and LOVES the taste of the toothpaste. He has stolen the cap from the toothpaste for chewing purposes when I was not looking.

The second dog I got as a senior. He has a lot of behavioral quirks which lead me to believe that he was kept inside his entire life. And he definitely did not get any dental care. He only has one front tooth and he had to have a molar pulled when I got him. But he does still have most of his teeth and I don’t want that to change. So I brush his teeth. He doesn’t like it. I don’t like doing it. But every time, he tolerates it a little bit more. He’s never going to love it. After all, it would be like starting something new at 70 years of age. But if it means no more tooth loss, I’m willing to keep on trying.

I don’t think I will ever allow someone to video me trimming Joey’s toenails (toe daggers?). He also has a few idiosyncrazies. 😉
I am dinky in size and have 3 non adult humans for which I am responsible for their care. I am and must be Joey’s alpha. My youngest has a tender heart. If Joey ever does anything, I must put him in his place for everyone’s safety.
Just a little back ground on me to say that I don’t know the background of this video. Rescue/breeder in the video? Joey submits grudgingly when we wipe him down coming inside from a wet mucky day. (He gets treats afterward. I’ll happily believe these stubbliers get treats to reinforce their behavior)
If you saw the post previously with Joey running round and round, most realize he is a happy “pup”.
NTMTOM keep NTMTOMing and submitters keep submitting. We will all grow together.
Love this site and community. 🙂

  8. Smartypants February 23, 2016 / 5:39 pm

If we (NTMTOM-ers) had a Corgi Factory, we wouldn’t be as organized as this woman…but we’d have a hell of a lot more fun!

  9. debg February 23, 2016 / 6:11 pm

Such good goggies! Can we use the d-word here or will we get stuck in moderation?

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 23, 2016 / 6:25 pm

I don’t maintain a list of words that trigger moderation, so go ahead and use whatever words you like.

  10. Andrew February 23, 2016 / 6:41 pm

Seems a lot of stuff I’ve sent in lately has turned out to be not so cute after all.
I’ve never had a pet, so I don’t know the types of animal behavior etc to watch out for (scared bunnies etc)… sorry all.

Guess I’ll cut back on the stuff I send in and try to stick with what’s familiar to me.

    • Faye February 23, 2016 / 7:28 pm

Andrew and NTMTOM I think all you need to do before you submit or post is look at the larger picture. Who what where when and how are the old standards combined with source. Just a bit more research will keep the truly cute content flowing. IMHO.

      • Maureen February 24, 2016 / 8:29 am

Agree, Faye. And people are entitled to their own opinions, but no one is reading into anything here. Hardly seems to be a happy dog in the bunch, which seems to have very little to do with having to be dried off. Enough said.

        • Julie February 24, 2016 / 8:43 am

If you watched a video of my dogs getting groomed, you might think they are “unhappy”. NO DOG likes to be clean.

If you watched a video of those same dogs saying “good morning” to me, you might think they were the happiest dogs on the planet.

          Enough said.

    • Julie February 23, 2016 / 7:30 pm

      Andrew-

Don’t cut back. This was cute and funny. I think a lot of people are reading too much into this. My dogs growl at me when I wipe down their paws after being out in the salt and ice. Dogs don’t like being groomed or clean and that is totally normal.

This site is a better place because of your unique point of view. Your submissions have brought a smile to my face EVERY SINGLE TIME.

      Please don’t change anything.

      • 6rabbits February 24, 2016 / 7:14 pm

        Totally agree with Julie, Andrew!

        • Haha February 24, 2016 / 11:23 pm

          ???
          The hills are aliiiiive

          • Faye February 25, 2016 / 4:41 am

            Snerk.

          • 6rabbits February 25, 2016 / 6:50 pm

            Double snerk!

    • Brandi February 24, 2016 / 6:50 am

You’re fine, don’t worry! I didn’t get why anyone would be upset over the bunny video. I have a bunch of bunnies. My gf and her family have raised and shown bunnies for 25+ years. You might have seen my video on here a month ago with my dog snuggling my baby bunnies: http://notthatmiketheothermike.com/2016/01/20/time-to-count-the-bunnies ! When I first started playing with them, I kept asking my girlfriend, “Does it like it when I (pet it/hold it/kiss it/whatever)? How do I know if it likes it?” She kept telling me (and the bunnies were quick to show me) that if a bunny doesn’t like something, it will let you know in no uncertain terms. If the bunny in the video you sent in had serious issues with what they were doing, it would not just be sitting there. It would keep trying to run away, bite, kick, whatever it needed to do.

      • 6rabbits February 24, 2016 / 7:11 pm

        Amen!
Y’all’ve never seen how a few of my rescue bunnies have acted getting their nails trimmed! Long rabbit nails can do a lot of damage to arms, neck, and face as unhappy rabbit tries to launch itself off your head! If a rabbit doesn’t want you to do something, they let you know! If they had phones I joke they’d call the ASCPA!

        • Faye February 24, 2016 / 7:57 pm

It takes two adult humans to clip my current cat’s nails. If anyone heard her yowling or saw the three of us they would think we were trying to kill her.

Point taken. I was more upset about the lady trying to keep the baby elephant because he was actually being deprived of natural contact with other elephants etc.

I didn’t mean to suggest that Andrew Y. Should cut back. ?

        • Murray February 25, 2016 / 8:20 pm

Oooh, I know about that. I, too, have rabbits and work with a rabbit rescue. Rabbits don’t have many defenses except for those strong back legs with the stabby bits on the ends. Ouch.

  11. sepaz February 23, 2016 / 8:27 pm

I agree with @Julie. This corgi wrangler isn’t doing anything abusive in this video. NTMTOM, your caption is def. funny.

Dogs thrive in hierarchy and they have no problem with authoritarianism. Corgi Lady is clear about what she wants and her dogs respond accordingly. She’s patient, low-key and gentle. Bexley (sp?) pushes her limits, but even with him, Corgi Lady is pretty gentle in calling out his incorrect behavior–he certainly doesn’t cower . . . in fact, he wanders away from her.

As previous posters have pointed out, corgis can be willful. But that doesn’t mean you have to give it up to them. And you shouldn’t.

I’ve volunteered to train dogs who have been surrendered to our local shelter for behavior problems. Our hope is that consistent training can “re-socialize” these dogs to be adoptable again. In almost every case, the “behavior problem” is that the owner(s) was(were) too fun/weak-minded/lazy to teach their pup basic commands or consistently enforce basic rules. Just as with young humans, many young dogs find an absence of rules stressful and confusing. They act out and push the limits to figure out their boundaries. Sound familiar?

Most dogs take pleasure in responding to their trainer’s commands–especially when the trainer is gentle, clear and consistent. Corgi Lady gets this. Good for her.

  12. Tamara February 23, 2016 / 9:17 pm

Yeah i noticed the rough handling of the darker corgi, but i watched again with the volume way up to see if i could hear the growling. He’s off camera growling at someone and the lady reigns him in, like how the Dog Whisperer does. After seeing he had been acting ornery off camera, i don’t think she was inappropriate in her actions. Bexley likes to start trouble i think 🙂

  13. Sedro6 February 23, 2016 / 9:25 pm

All of this commentroversy and no one mentioned the “leg stubbification process”??? I’m so glad to learn how Corgis came to be.

  14. Gigi_the cat lady February 23, 2016 / 9:50 pm

Ahhhh a commentroversy, reminds me of the old ranch.
Now, where did I put the pudding?

    • Haha February 23, 2016 / 10:42 pm

If you find the chocolate, please let me know. 🙂

      • joods February 23, 2016 / 10:52 pm

And butterscotch too, please. And let the puddin’ fly! 🙂

  15. fkaWaldenPond February 23, 2016 / 10:16 pm

And then! Inspector # 3 got fired and a happy ending for all. *shrugging*
