Power Purr!

So you housecats think you know how to purr? Bet you can’t purr like Voodoo here, a rescued spotted leopard at Cedar Cove Tiger Park. Speakers way up!

“Voodoo Lounging” is also my favorite music genre, Ginette.

    Here kitty, kitty, kitty……nice kitty….?

  2. allein March 4, 2016 / 1:00 pm

Love the paw. “Ooh, right there!”

  3. Lurkingduck March 4, 2016 / 1:03 pm

Beautiful animal. Horrible situation! You don’t declaw animals! And you don’t use wild animals for housepets! I cried when I read the story.

  4. Haha March 4, 2016 / 1:09 pm

I can watch, but I can’t use the sound where I am right now. I will have to enjoy that part later.
Using any low gravely feline voice from any movie of your choice I hear the kitty saying, “Your services are required here, scratch my ear minion.”

  5. Lurkingduck March 4, 2016 / 1:15 pm

But I do agree, the purring is bone-shakingly gorgeous, and I LOVE the guiding paw.

I’m learning so much today. I thought only house cats purred.

I collect my current cat’s white whiskers. I wish I could have one of hers. Wow!

    • April March 4, 2016 / 2:35 pm

Awww Faye…..you collect kitty whiskers? When my daughter was young, she did the same thing. We were fostering several rescued cats at the time…..who became so comfy BTW, that they never left!…..and she would gather all the whiskers she would find and keep them in a little special foiled box in her room. She did that for years. My daughter….and the cats….are all ‘growed-up’ now, but I still remember that magical time every time I spot a dropped whisker on the floor. ?

        Hi April!!

What a nice memory. Hope you remind your daughter too.

I decided to collect whiskers from my current tuxie cat Dorothy because I know the exact date she became mine. My goal is to see how many I get until she departs. We hooked up last summer when she turned 8.

I have a carved wooden box that I pop the whiskers into. ?

I collect Ellie’s whiskers, too! I didn’t know other people did that! 🙂

          • Faye March 5, 2016 / 2:40 am

Hmmm? A secret society so secret no one even knows the secret.

Every time I pick one up I think about making a tiny weaving out the collection.

            • ^oo^ March 5, 2016 / 10:37 pm

I actually approached a basket weaver to see if she would make tiny baskets with the whiskers as a final row around sticking out along the top edge. Alas, she said no.

I keep the cat whiskers in a small box made of stained glass.

I thought cheetahs were the only big cats that purr. I know lions and tigers don’t, but apparently leopards are in with the cheetahs and small cats too.

      • debg March 4, 2016 / 4:52 pm

I think lions actually do. The viral video of the “Lion Whisperer” guy seeing his lions in the wild had them purring. It was a GoPro thing.

I sent it in saying it was a jaguar but NTMTOM is right it’s a leopard, I should of read the description better but I was distracted by the awesome purring!

I would so love to be give him a head rub!

    • Saffron March 4, 2016 / 1:55 pm

      Don’t worry, nobody’s purrfect
      *rim shot*
      😀

    • Smartypants March 4, 2016 / 8:29 pm

I’m sure NTMTOM would like a head rub. Oh, you meant the leopard? 😀

      • Lurkingduck March 5, 2016 / 12:08 am

Just what I was going to ask.

      • Gigi_the cat lady March 5, 2016 / 9:01 am

Now that you mention it, I’d be happy to give NTMTOM a head rub if he wants one, he certainly deserves one for entertaining us so well.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’m opting for both at the same time.
Lovely purr, it’s touching to see such powerful cat wanting his head scratched just so… but awful to think what selfish humans have done to him. Aren’t there laws against this kind of abuse of a wild animal?

    • 6rabbits March 5, 2016 / 7:30 pm

Unfortunately, animal protection laws vary widely from state to state. The sale of exotics is rampant in the U.S., but many rescues are from zoos who are “downsizing”, or private “parks”. Those who horde pet animals have counterparts who “collect” exotics. I encourage everyone to find out the laws for your state and work to get them toughened or enforced.

I choose to focus on the fact that he was rescued and is now cared for by people who know how to love, respect and care for him for the rest of his days.

    • Lurkingduck March 4, 2016 / 5:42 pm

Thank you. I’ll try to focus on that.

  10. Kar March 4, 2016 / 5:03 pm

I don’t care if he’s declawed, it would take more than a couple of fireball shots and a cattle prod (applied to me) to take that into my house.

I’m with LunaChickFringe, let’s focus on the fact that he’s in a better place. He’s clearly adapted well enough to develop a strong bond with the staff/volunteers/lucky guy who gets to rub his ears and kiss his forehead

If you’d like to see these in the wild where they belong, go to WildEarth Safari in the Sabi Sands area of Kruger Park where you can go on live safaris with some VERY knowledgeable presenters twice a day. You’ll get to see the Big 5, spotted hyenas, painted dogs, ellies, giraffes, all kinds of antelope plus many beautiful birds so it’s always educational and interesting. The animals are so used to the vehicles and people, they come right up to the vehicles so you get up close and personal views of the magnificent creatures. And, the babies are just simply adorable!! Never thought I’d say a hyena cub is adorable, but they sure are!! None are restricted in their movements so they are free to go where they want to.

  12. Ellie's Maid March 4, 2016 / 5:53 pm

I LOVE big cats!!!!!! LOVE! I want to be there!!!

Sorry, I couldn’t read the sad story. I’ve had a really bad day at work so I just listened to the beautiful purring!

With this and those baby goats, I’m already feeling much better!

  13. MTKees March 4, 2016 / 7:32 pm

I’m just going to focus on the fact that he’s in a better place now, and from the sounds of the purring, is so happy he could incubate a sprinkler!

    • Mr. Max March 5, 2016 / 6:04 am

Not only is he so happy he could incubate a sprinkler, his purr sounds like a cross between a boat engine and the world’s longest burp! I MUST learn how to do that!

      • Smartypants March 5, 2016 / 7:33 am

Ppbbt! Now I literally have to wipe my screen…. 😀

  14. AB March 4, 2016 / 11:42 pm

This place is awesome! My favorite of the cats is the caracal. I know someone who volunteers there and she said caracals are actually domesticated as hunting cats in some parts of the world. The caracal lets volunteers get in the kennel with it and snuggle.
