Eeep! I’m going to have to let others be witty first. Maybe I can respond after. This is just too much.

Someone correct me here but aren’t they both black jaguars? I thought that black jaguars produce black and spotty cubs, where the spotty ones just turn black a little later?

    • Faye March 11, 2016 / 4:23 pm

      The spots disappear!? ?

      • Faye March 11, 2016 / 4:25 pm

I wish my age spots would do that!

And of course, black is beautiful.

        I feel better now. ?

The black one seems to be a bit blotty too. I think the spotty one just needs a second coat.

They don’t need decals or pin striping. They are adorable just as they are.

    • MTKees March 12, 2016 / 8:26 pm

Ah yes, but with white racing stripes they could be skunkats!

Black panther are just leopard with a lot of melanin in their skin, they still have the spots but they are difficult to see because of the black of their fur and …………

This looks like an especially cute episode of Maury Povich, DNA Testing, the zoo edition

Actually NTMTOM, you weren’t really wrong… a black jaguar is also a panther. And a black leopard is a panther. But a jaguar is not a leopard.

Confused? Here’s Wikipedia: “A black panther is the melanistic color variant of any Panthera species. Black panthers in Asia and Africa are leopards (Panthera pardus) and black panthers in the Americas are black jaguars (Panthera onca).”

So, basically, “panther” is a descriptive term rather than a taxonomic one.

Good grief, double heart-melt. I hope someone gave those two furballs a large dose of cuddling shortly after the photo session.
