Never Taken a Shortcut Before?

This homeowner is proud of his new escape-proof fence. For about fifteen seconds.

On the plus side, we may have the perfect police dog for this guy:

Dog thinks in 3D. Human thinks in 2D.

    Easy peasy says doggie woggie.

He’s gonna need a bigger fence.

I predict doggie digging in the future.

  3. Laura March 24, 2016 / 2:22 pm

He’d better calculate the new height of his new fence based on the amount of clearance Stella got over that fence. Because she was nowhere near even touching it!

    • 6rabbits March 25, 2016 / 8:30 am

He’s never gonna build a fence tall enough! He needs those slanted barbed wire tops on prison fences.?

  4. Brouhaha March 24, 2016 / 2:35 pm

    Like it wasn’t even there…

Notice that Stella went to the part of the fence where the ground sloped up just enough to make the fence shorter. Clever girl!

      Dog 1. Human 0.

      • ^oo^ March 25, 2016 / 1:50 am

My father once sad you have to smarter than a (add your own animal here).

        • Faye March 25, 2016 / 7:45 am

There are breeds of dogs I would never get because I KNOW they would be smarter than me.

My dad once built a fenced-in pen for our lab-German shepherd mix Smokey. It was a challenge to get the walls high enough, so it took Dad several tries. He finally was convinced he’d beaten the dog, and proudly said, “Watch him try to get out of this!” Seconds later, Smokey pulled a Stella.

Send the guy to Rio !

  8. Julie March 24, 2016 / 3:54 pm

This is why I will likely always have small dogs.

    • allein March 24, 2016 / 5:08 pm

Yeah, a dog that can be kept in the kitchen by few connected squares of 18-inch wire shelving across the door is rather nice.

      • Faye March 24, 2016 / 6:02 pm

Yes. And small dog small poop. That’s my motto.

        • Julie March 24, 2016 / 6:13 pm

          YES!

I baby sat a “big” dog and I almost threw up every time I had to clean up after her! 🙁

          • Faye March 24, 2016 / 6:43 pm

I was in a family run pet store once consulting with a long-time employee about possibly getting a Sugar Glider. “What is their poop like I asked?”, having learned that poop size, consistency and the prospects of possible house training really is the crucial question. She looked at me with a jaded expression and said, “It’s not their poop that’s the problem, it’s the flying peeing that people complain about.” No sale. Lol.

            • allein March 24, 2016 / 6:51 pm

Lol…we used to joke about getting Pablo a sugar glider for his own pet, cuz it was the only thing smaller than him.

Perhaps a hamster would have been a better option.

              • Faye March 24, 2016 / 7:37 pm

                That was close. Lol.

            • 6rabbits March 25, 2016 / 8:36 am

Now I’m astonished ANYone has a sugar glider as a pet!?

Size of pet poop is definitely a consideration. Thusly, my pets have been gerbils, hamsters and rabbits.?

              • Faye March 25, 2016 / 2:04 pm

                Wise woman you are.
I remember being shocked when I first learned you could house train bunnys.

P.S. I have made a possible contact for my bunny touching quest. Not telling until I can announce a first step.

                • 6rabbits March 25, 2016 / 11:34 pm

Keeping my fingers crossed for you! Remember, we will want to see pictures.?

              • Murray March 25, 2016 / 3:02 pm

Also, bunny poop is great compost – can even be put directly on top of the soil of a houseplant. It’s a slow release fertilizer and won’t burn, even tho’ they claim it’s as hot as chicken poop (which will burn). We have an enormous pile of compost, much of which is comprised of bunny and litter (pelleted wood used for horse bedding) which we refer to as “Mount Bunnapoopo”.
And, Faye, wishing you the best on your quest for bunny snuggling – behind the ears is the softest spot. Go for it.

                • Faye March 25, 2016 / 11:44 pm

Thank you 6Rabbits and Murray. I am so close I can “almost feel it”.

Love that you named your compost.

      • Julie March 24, 2016 / 7:13 pm

You should check out @bob_marley_goldenretriever on Instagram. This guy has 2 goldens, a hamster and 4 birds. And all the animals hang out together.

Either these are the most chill ani-pals ever, or this dude is putting Valium in their kibble.

        • Smartypants March 24, 2016 / 7:39 pm

Oh, I love that animal family – I think NTMTOM had them on here recently with a header about “The Usual Suspects” 😀

      • -J March 25, 2016 / 9:48 pm

in my experience, most dogs can be kept in the kitchen by hope alone – as in, they hope you drop something for them.

        • Faye March 25, 2016 / 11:46 pm

          Cute. ?

    • Kar March 24, 2016 / 7:57 pm

Our miniature poodle could jump over a six foot fence without any effort.

      • allein March 24, 2016 / 8:22 pm

Pablo couldn’t even get on the couch.

Unless no one was there to pick him up. Then he somehow figured it out. I have left the room with him on the floor and come back to find him curled up on the couch. Little liar. But he was so cute!

        • Starfish March 24, 2016 / 8:33 pm

My uncle’s dog did the same thing to me when I was babysitting him last October. Olympic level jumping when he was chasing his sister, but when he wanted to hang with me, it was time to bring out the eyes.

          • allein March 24, 2016 / 8:46 pm

            And the whines.

  9. Gigi_the cat lady March 24, 2016 / 4:57 pm

The same thing happened to my dad, he was building a pen to hold my new pony and he’d just said “that should be hight enough” when the pony casually walked up to the fence and jump over it. It was the first time I heard my dad swear 😀

  10. BB/VA March 24, 2016 / 6:49 pm

The last word says it all…

It really is a nice fence though.

  11. Julie March 24, 2016 / 7:08 pm

Hey NTMTOM – I noticed that 5 is the limit for nested replies.

Anyway to increase that to keep the conversations going? Or is that your way of telling us “get a life”? Ha ha!! 🙂

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike March 24, 2016 / 7:11 pm

I can increase it. I think I had better reduce the amount of indenting on replies at the same time. The effect of too much nesting is awkward, especially on smartphones.

      • Julie March 24, 2016 / 7:15 pm

Agree about viewing on smartphones. It gets to be like, 2 words per line and starts looking like one of those eye sight tests at the doctor’s office.

        • allein March 24, 2016 / 7:43 pm

I read a blog that, before they changed the commenting system, used to indent to the point of one letter per line. Now I think it only indents to three levels, but you can still reply to the comments (but it tells you at the top of the comment who it’s in reply to, and if you hover over the name it pops up a little hover of the first few words of the post so you can remind yourself without scrolling back up). It can get a little confusing when the there are a lot of comments, but it’s still better than one letter per line!

        • 6rabbits March 25, 2016 / 8:40 am

Thankful I’ve been using an ipad, then!

  12. Murray March 24, 2016 / 11:24 pm

NTMTOM’s follow-up video reminds me of a Simon’s cat animation and the cat jumps over a series of fences with something humorous happening as he lands in each yard – one had a trampoline, I remember.
