Funny McBlogpost

By now, you’ve probably heard about the online naming contest that may leave Britain’s Natural Environment Research Council stuck with a research vessel named “Boaty McBoatface.” (Spoiler alert: The Council will likely veto the idea.)

This sent the Twitterati aflutter, and soon the hashtag #TheInternetNamesAnimals was producing such alternate monikers as:

If you see an example you like, you can use Twitter’s embed function to paste the message into the comments below (or you can just say what the name is).

Why don’t they just stick with the original name? I think “Name of Vessel” is very classy.

I’ve always been fond of “YOUR NAME HERE”.

Then again, if it is a Polar Research Ship, I’m sure they would appreciate no ice, so let’s call it “NEAT”.

Dug this out of my Twitter faves. Doesn’t have the hashtag, but it still fits.

I'm in favour of having these replace their current scientific names pic.twitter.com/6zDlEdKGbc— Baby Animals (@BabyAnimalPics) March 16, 2016

You two, me too! Those are my favourites- Danger Noodle and Pantless Thunder-Goose. 🙂 And btw, I apologize to the ntmtom gang for being such a bossy, grumpy, have-my-say commenter recently. I am making active concerted efforts to turn-my-frown-upside-downsie. *sorry folks*

Welllllll…I guess Britain’s Natural Environment Research Council learned a leetle lesson about asking the Internet for anything…?

I voted for Boaty McBoatface! That is hilarious, I can’t stop laughing!

Perfectly realized. In my head Boaty McBoatface sounds like Mr. Bill: Ooooo Nooooo! Oooo Noooo!

Longtime lurker here (and former CO refugee) – how about Throatwarbler Mangrove, pronounced Luxury Yacht?

They need to go with Boaty McBoatface as an homage to Eddie Izzard’s riff on Engelbert Humperdinck choosing his stage name. I’m *reasonably* certain CuteOverload picked up that riff and popularized it to a larger audience–does anybody remember naming contests for certain baby beluga whales? We have to build momentum, people! Do it for Eddie! Do it in loving memory of CO!
