As a kitten my cat Isis ate all the top of the spines of my Astérix books, she’s been gone for years but I still have those books and I think of her every time I happen to look at them.

She left her mark on your books and your heart. ?

That’s awesome – I have a plastic watering can with kitty teeth-marks all over the spout – same thing!

I had the same problem with my long-departed Clive and the corners of my Dorothy L. Sayers mysteries.

Theo, my mini-lop, is very well-read? He has managed to chew on the majority of the books on his level, despite me fencing them. (A nice look in the living room, I gotta say) I recently moved and am very reluctant to unbox my books! In the meantime, Theo has fun chewing on the boxes! He is one of my most chewy rabbits! (Likes wood, too…and carpet…) Good thing he’s stinkin cute!?

Recently, my kitteh, Mikey, was very sick for two weeks, and for the first time in thirteen years, I was able to hold a book without it being chomped. It was one of the happiest days of my life when he climbed onto my lap and started nomming away on my most recent paperback. I, too, have shelves full of books with toothmarks.

Parrot has beak-marked many of the books in my personal library. Perfect little triangle beak-marks.

My best friend had a cat that loved salt and vinegar potato chips. The cat would gently claw a chip out of the bag, and lick all the salt and vinegar off it. Then she would leave the soggy flavourless chip on the floor for someone to step on. She wouldn’t touch any other flavour. My friend had to store the chips in a latched cupboard.

Book-eating isn’t confined to animals. Oscar Wilde had a habit of absent-mindedly tearing off the corners of pages and eating them.
