Run for the Border!

The California Highway Patrol got into a very unusual chase Sunday morning — with a chihuahua. The speedy black wawa led officers on a chase across the Bay Bridge before being captured safely. Officers named him Ponch, after the character on the the TV series “CHiPs.”

So far, nobody has claimed Ponch, and the suspect himself has not made a statement to the press, saying only “yo quiero my lawyer.”

Thanks to sender-inners AM, AJ, and Allein! ยกAAAy caramba!

Yay! One of my submeeshons finally made the cut! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope they find Ponch’s family. Or I’ll take him if he wants to run over to NJ…

Good one, Allein! Made my day happy.

My friend posted it on my facebook page yesterday morning. It definitely made getting ready for work a little easier.

Loved this post and video. And thankful that the little guy is safe.

As an aside, My dog is also named after Officer Frank Poncherello, as they are both handsome Latin men!

Hey NTMTOM – I do a LOT of shopping on Amazon and I try to do it all through the link on your site, but I’ve noticed a change that is making it difficult.

In the past, when I clicked on the Amazon link from your site on my iPad, it would take me to Amazon via a Safari (browser) page.

Now, it takes me to Amazon via the Amazon App which has SIGNIFICANTLY less search/sorting capability.

Have you heard this from others?

No, this is the first I’ve heard, and thanks for letting me know.

Does your iPad offer you a choice of what app gets used to open certain links? Have any of the apps in question been updated recently?

It sounds as if you have a special Amazon app installed. Deleting that app would allow Amazon to open up in a browser again, but you would lose whatever advantages the app offered.

I have an android tablet; if I open a link to a site that has multiple options (like Youtube asks if I want to open in Chrome or the Youtube app) but doesn’t have a default set, it’ll ask what I want to open it with and if I want that option just once or always. I don’t know if i-stuff works the same way, but maybe you set the app as the default for Amazon without realizing it? There’s probably somewhere in the settings where you can check it.

I have an Android tablet too, and I get the same experience. In the Apple environment, the culture leans towards reducing choices for the sake of simplicity. Sometimes that’s a good idea, sometimes not.

Yes, I don’t really love Apple products because they decide a lot of things for you, that I don’t think need Cupertino’s input. I will probably never get an iPhone for that reason.

I’ll try deleting the app and let you know.

I have that problem with itunes. Stop changing things that work just fine and making my life more difficult! When I say I want podcasts to delete once they’re played, I don’t mean I want them to stay there for another day, then get a cloud icon for another day after that, then finally disappear. At least give me an option to keep the old setting.

Good job ALLEIN, I saw the story on the news Sunday but didn’t think of sending it in.
Could be I’m just lazy or maybe I just wanted to keep the cute to myself. ;D :d ๐Ÿ˜€

    • allein April 6, 2016 / 10:09 am

I’ve sent in a few things but this is the first one that made it. I was starting to wonder if I needed to slip Mike a twenty or something. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m sorry I neglected you! Now I need to go through my past mail to see if anything else slipped past me.

I’m just kiddin’. I’m sure you get a ton of stuff to sift through.

But I did send some prime cute. ๐Ÿ˜›

How frightened he must have been! Poor little guy.

Wonder how long it was before wawa just pooped out and gave up? So glad he is safe!

Yea!! I’m one of the submitters and I feel like I’ve joined the popular cool kids by being in such good company as Allein and AM. Interesting how all our names/initials start with A. I saw this story and instantly thought this needed NTMTOM’s special touch and he didn’t disappoint!!! Favorite line โ€œyo quiero my lawyer” – snort.

Two interesting asides – the spanish word for lawyer, abogado, is sooo close to the word for avocado that it caused some interesting pictures in my brain, lol. AND Erik Estrada, Mr. Poncharello himself, has been retweeting this and just loving the story. Best case scenario that I’m really, really hoping for is that he’ll adopt his little namesake if Ponch’s family isn’t found. Hmm, maybe I’ll go suggest that to him.

The video won’t play for me, possibly because of my work setup. That’s okay: I was able to find the video and a related news story elsewhere.

I’m glad the police officers were able to rescue the poor thing!
