We Missed Beaver Day, Dam It!

Readers Mariana P. and Andrew Y. wrote to tell me that April 7 was International Beaver Day! Besides being cute, beavers play an important role in their environment. The dams they build store water and create wetlands. You can learn more at Beavers: Wetlands and Wildlife, and see more cute beavers at Bored Panda.

I’ll put this on my calendar so I don’t miss it next year.

Gee they look perpetually happy. I guess it’s because they don’t have to fill out depreciation reports.

    • Clairdelune April 13, 2016 / 2:03 pm

Or fill out income tax forms.

      • 6rabbits April 14, 2016 / 7:41 am

        ExACTly!

High boopability factor. ♥️ On the rocks, you say? Can I have mine neat? (or messy – these guys are darned cute)

  3. Smartypants April 12, 2016 / 2:07 pm

The first one – “Look, I’m a quokka!”

    • SAA1451 April 13, 2016 / 7:54 am

That is exactly what I thought! A very quokka smile. 🙂

  4. Lurkingduck April 12, 2016 / 2:25 pm

I want to gently squeeze that fat baby beaver!

  5. Julie April 12, 2016 / 3:01 pm

  6. Mariana Paes April 12, 2016 / 3:04 pm

Weeeee!! Beavers! They’re so cute. They do look a lot like quokkas

  7. Faye April 12, 2016 / 3:12 pm

    The Quokkability is amazing.

I guess Wally Cleaver is a little sore that he doesn’t rate a day. Maybe June and Ward can put in a word for him.

    • Faye April 12, 2016 / 5:52 pm

Cleaver Day. Sounds like the title of a horror movie. Yikes.

      • ^oo^ April 13, 2016 / 2:24 am

        Not Cleaver Day. Wally World!

    • Lurkingduck April 12, 2016 / 7:38 pm

Beaver gets a day, but June gets a whole month.

      • Haha April 12, 2016 / 10:44 pm

And Ward gets to play with Batman. 🙂

          • Faye April 12, 2016 / 11:16 pm

            O-blivious.

          • Haha April 13, 2016 / 2:02 am

            NOOOooooo
Puts hands over eyes and says loudly, “Lalalalalalala”

Back in my pre and young teen days I had a crush on the tv show Robin. Batman was cool, but Robin….

            🙂

            • 6rabbits April 13, 2016 / 7:40 am

My sister had a crush on Robin around 10 yrs. old. I didn’t get it. We saw it in syndication after school. Lasted until we got Star Trek in its place, and then she started a loooooong crush on Spock. This I understood!?

              • Gigi_the cat lady April 13, 2016 / 9:55 am

Spock was cool but Sulu shirtless with his sword … hummm yummy!

            • Faye April 13, 2016 / 12:31 pm

I was totally into Julie Newmar as Cat Woman pointy bra and all. Then it took me another 20 years to figure it out!! Wink wink nudge nudge.

              • Haha April 13, 2016 / 12:49 pm

Well, OK, you move slow. You mustn’t let it take 20 years for your bunny petting quest!!!
                And Cat Woman…
                Me-oweeeew

                • Faye April 14, 2016 / 4:55 am

Bunny quest has hit a dam. Hmmm beavers?

                  Will update!

      • Murray Callahan April 13, 2016 / 1:08 pm

???(in response to Duckie for her comment about June.)

      • Clairdelune April 13, 2016 / 2:05 pm

oooohh, I see what you did there. 😀

  9. Julie April 12, 2016 / 3:32 pm

I wish I had a large tupperware with a small beaver in it.

    • Smartypants April 12, 2016 / 5:25 pm

Every new set of Tupperware should just automatically include a free baby beaver.

      • Lurkingduck April 12, 2016 / 7:39 pm

        Hear hear!

      • Julie April 12, 2016 / 9:19 pm

I would buy sooooo much Tupperware if that were true!

Any former CO fans recall the pic of a bebeh beaver dressed up in a bumble bee costume? It was a dam cute photo. I would post it here if I knew how to do it. Even NTMTOM may remember seeing it. I think there also was one of a bebeh in a wadding pool. They do sort of resemble bigger versions of Quokkas.

  11. Shan April 12, 2016 / 4:12 pm

Don’t Beavers always look like they have something to say? Excuse me sir, do you have a small bit of wood shavings? IDK.

    • Smartypants April 12, 2016 / 5:27 pm

Hehe, that’s so true – they do always look like they want to join the conversation.

  12. Luv Bunny April 12, 2016 / 4:44 pm

Yes, GiGi, that’s the one. I couldn’t quit saying “awww, how adorable ” when I first saw it. Thanks for finding it.

  13. Ellie's Maid April 12, 2016 / 10:58 pm

OK, they are just too cute! I’ll take all of them! 🙂

  14. Birdcage April 12, 2016 / 11:36 pm

There’s a beaver on the lake where I go kayaking. I’ve had some close encounters. Fascinating but a bit scary! Beavers: cute but disinclined towards friendly interactions with random kayakers who get too close to the den. And a full-size beaver is a big creature!

  15. Muppet2171 April 13, 2016 / 1:53 am

    Frankly my dear, I don’t give a…oh wait…

    • Clairdelune April 13, 2016 / 2:11 pm

Today is definitely Golden Pun day. 😀

  16. 6rabbits April 13, 2016 / 7:35 am

Maybe it’s just me, but the 3 in the second pic look like they belong in the Shire!

Bebeh beavers ARE very cute, but adult beavers are big enough for me to give them a wide berth (I used to live near a river walk.) The adults sort of high-tail it out of there if a human is near–very quick they are.

  17. Amy April 13, 2016 / 2:08 pm

    Is the beaver named Janet?

      • Amy April 14, 2016 / 12:27 pm

The river was deep but I swam it!
