I really wish I could think up funny / punny things to say more often. Sometimes I sit here without commenting because my comment aspirations don’t live up to my output reality. Everyone: please imagine that I’m a witty commenter.

      Me too!

Also, I might be able to manage a passable bow-tie. My brother hogged all the art genes.

Also, too, we love you just the way you are!

Birdcage, I enjoy the comment section on this site very much, and your additions to it have always been some of my favorites. Just being your usual Birdcage-y self is everything you need to be. I love our little community!

I also feel that way but with the added difficulty of trying to think up puns and funny things in a foreign language.

If only I could prove to you that I’m HILARIOUS in Portuguese… 😉

I , for one, totally believe you’re hilarious in Portugese. I can speak a language other than English, but nowhere near as well as you speak English. It’s really difficult to be funny in a somewhat foreign language, and the inability to joke makes me, and I’m guessing everybody else in the same situation, feel stupid, or at least that other people perceive me as a dullard.

        Wow. Your English is fantastic!

        • dubravkamcvmd April 27, 2016 / 8:54 pm

Apparently not so fantastic since I gave you the impression that English is a second language for me. In a technical sense yes, since my parents came to the US with me when I was a few months old and they spoke to me and I to them in Croatian when I was really small . But I have lived in NYC since May of 1950. The language I can’t make jokes in is Croatian, not English. Hmmm, maybe I can’t make jokes in English either. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that! By the way, a week or so ago, someone (sorry, I can’t remember who) posited the theory that NTMTOM and 260Oakley are one and the same. I submit the following in support:
      1. It’s inconceivable that such an integral member of the CO community would be unaware of the Great Migration (as well as conspicuously absent from the Day of Great Sorrow).
      2. 260 could be a birth month and year, in which case 1960 would coincide with the time frame of pop culture references (including Mike Douglas!)
      3. Mike didn’t deny it when it was brought up previously.

From now on I will think of the end of CO as The Day of Great Sorrow and the establishment of this site and the ingathering here of the refugees as The Great Migration. Thank you Catwhisperer.

So shall it be. And verily the NTMTOM led them out of the Time Of No Cute and tenderly offered A New Cute. And they were again spitting coffee. Hallelujah.

Now that’s a religious movement I can get behind!

Hey, Birdcage, you and I are two Birds of a feather, and are not alone! The funny/punny button is not universally present in human brains, it’s a certified fact. Some of us lack that button, but make up for it by being just wonderful all around. That’s my story and I’ll stick to it.

I know the feeling, Birdcage! Sometimes I comment before reading all the other comments so I’m not intimidated. I am not good at puns at all! In person I have more the wry/dry, possibly sarcastic, type of humor…which can be misinterpreted in print.
I must say, I do truly enjoy everyone else’s witty repartee, though!?

I hate it when they leave out crucial instructions like that.
