It’s spring, so time to get started planting irises. This hardy perennial is named after the Greek goddess who rode rainbows and appropriately comes in a wide range of colors. The Vole Iris, which blooms every summer, features bold blue petals that fall away to reveal a baby vole.

He’s just taking a rest until he has enough energy to eat the rest of your Iris rhizomes.?
I want an entire flat of these for my garden! I will feed them whatever they want!
Sweet dreams. Tucked in by fairies, I’m sure.
I can almost hear the tiny honk-shu!
And I can almost feel the velvety softness of those tiny ears. Siggghhh
This photo has the feel of an Anne Geddes work, just with a vole bebeh instead of a hoomin one!?
Right on!!
My thought, too. Sweet.
Perfection – a beautiful flower, stunning colors, and a sweet little furry critter peacefully asleep inside the flower…….. *melting into a puddle*
I need to plant some of these next to the house, within easy reach. In case head scritching is required. 🙂
That is so sweet!
I’m still trying to figure out how to grow these..
Omigod! The little toeses and teefs! Why are tiny furry critters SO insanely adorable?
I think most women are preprogrammed to swoon at the sight of tiny toesies and tiny teefs – regardless of whether they are part of a human or of an animal. And I believe the programming transcends the age of hormonal saturation; I’m totally past that age – oh, there may be a couple of stray estrogen molecules still wondering around – but the programming is as strong as ever! Have to control myself to avoid being taken over by kitties, puppies, bunnies, tiny furry things, and human bebehs… 😀 😀
Also, I would like to add some of these to my (imaginary) garden of mouseflowers.
Allein, and I’m trying to figure out WHAT IS IT?!?!? And where can I put in an order for a basketful???
Our backyard hill needs many Vole Irises, to help with erosin control. I will attend to them and check on the teeny, cute vole, often.
For those who don’t do well with suspense, I made sure little vole in my story ended up safely tucked away in the shrubbery.
In the backyard I see our dog repeatedly poking his nose on the ground and jumping away. I go to investigate and as I get closer when I see Joey poking his nose I hear a squealy scream. When I can see what it is, yep, a bitty little vole letting Joey AUDIBLY know that he did NOT appreciate nose boops.
Joey got a treat for leaving the vole alone while I escorted/shooed it to safety.
