Sigh. I feel bad for the shark. Is it because I didn’t have children? Maybe if you have children your maternal hormones get used up a bit?

    • dubravkamcvmd May 2, 2016 / 12:00 pm

I’m amending my comment with a reply? I realize I’m not as hormonally-challenged as I thought. It’s NTMTOM’s touching story about the hopes and dreams of stuffed toys that made me feel for the shark. Oh wait, maybe I am hormonally-challenged. Never mind.

Hey, we’ve had three “Toy Story” movies, with a fourth on the way, hammering the idea that toys derive their sense of worth by being played with.

I came here to comment that, while I hate to be a nuffer, and I didn’t vote this down, it seemed like a waste of a perfectly good stuffed toy. There are toys made specifically for dogs to tear up. But then (even before reading this remark) I realized that, probably, it was NTMTOM’s text that prepared me, before the video, to feel sorry for the shark. And I do. Pooooor stuffed shark. And, not to get too silly about it, poor people who designed and made the shark. I realize they got paid, but they also probably aspired to have someone use their creation as a lovey, not disembowel it (if it had bowels, and the dog was probably disappointed it didn’t).

So I guess this all makes me an over-thinking sentimental sap. I can live with that.

My first thought was also to feel sorry for the shark! Humans anthropomorphize quit a bit–and the shark was sorta cute, so you have the “Bambi Effect” working a little there, too. I see Pixel doesn’t destroy ALL his stuffed animals, though! (Was gonna insert shark emoji, but there isn’t one! 2 whales an d a dolphin, but no shark! Discrimination!)

        • Murray C. May 3, 2016 / 5:04 pm

We need a wombat one, too – and a beaver, a quokka, and some theater-oriented ones, and what was little creature that looked like a mouse- sized kangaroo, but real skinny – I know this list could go on!

Were you thinking of a jerboa? I did not realize this, but when I Googled images of jerboas, we have a choice. Some species have normal-sized ears, and some have absurdly large ears, but they’re all jerboas.

            Big ears:
            Normal ears:
Absurdly cute baby (at least I assume this is a baby, but it might be an adult of yet another species):

That is a sperm wearing a fur coat. Effect of Global Cooling that caused the last Ice Age. How do you think Homo sapiens survived?

              • 6rabbits May 4, 2016 / 7:33 am

THIS comment is a prime example of why I strictly follow the rule “Nothing in the mouth when reading NTMTOM posts/comments”! Good grief, Faye!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Did you see the little wawa below?

              • Murray C. May 4, 2016 / 1:25 pm

Faye, now it’s my turn to, what is the expression, ROFLOL???? Didn’t realize sperm had ginormous feet – in proportion, naturally. Wait, isn’t there some relationship pertaining to shoe size?????

            • 6rabbits May 4, 2016 / 6:36 am

Although incredibly realistic, that last one is actually made of felt! Needle felting it is called.

              • allein May 4, 2016 / 1:12 pm

WANT!! That is the kind of pup I can handle right now.

              • George Michael Sherry May 5, 2016 / 4:07 am

Well, shoot, I fell for a photo of a toy/stuffed animal/artistic depiction, didn’t I? I should have known there are no real mammals with a head, a tail, legs, and feet — but no body. I should have checked the source more thoroughly.

That said, the real Baluchistan Pygmy Jerboas aren’t a lot more plausible-looking. I’m almost sure these are actual animals.

                • Murray C. May 5, 2016 / 11:36 am

And again I thank you! Good work!😊

            • Murray C. May 4, 2016 / 1:23 pm

YES! A jerboa it is, thank you so much, GMS. How absurdly adorable are these little cuties????? I hadn’t seen the small-eared one with the enormous “plates” before. (“Plates” being Cockney rhyming slang for feet – “plated of meat”)

              • Murray C. May 4, 2016 / 1:50 pm

Just realized that the comment about needle felting referred to the jerboa and yes, now that I look at it more closely, you are right. I would guess that the artist did his/her homework, at least one would hope. Either that or the Roy The Froy thing might be starting up again.

Cannot believe there is a petition, but I just signed it!πŸ˜„

Poor shark. The ending cracked me up, though. I was going to say I hope they didn’t spend too much on him, but now Pixel has a shark costume, so I guess it was worth it either way. πŸ™‚

    • Annette May 2, 2016 / 10:42 am

Yeah, it kind of took a “Silence of the Lambs” turn at the end there, didn’t it?

I almost (almost!) feel sorry for any burglar entering Pixel’s home thinking, “how much damage could this little guy possibly do?”. Because clearly — a lot!

      • allein May 2, 2016 / 10:52 am

I wonder if he made the shark put lotion on its skin first…

Shark might not mind the hose, though…

        • Gigi_the cat lady May 2, 2016 / 2:26 pm

          Creepy πŸ˜€

      • Faye May 3, 2016 / 6:30 am

        He made a sharkskin suit!

  3. birdcage May 2, 2016 / 10:21 am

Show me the way to go home ….
I’m tired and I wanna go to bed.
I had a little shark about an hour ago,
And pulled the stuffin’ out of its head …..

    • Margaret May 2, 2016 / 11:05 am

      Good one Birdcage!

Can NTMTOM come up with the second verse?

    • Faye May 3, 2016 / 6:32 am

Very we’re not gonna need a bigger boat.

  4. Brouhaha May 2, 2016 / 10:24 am

I hope their couch looks nothing like a shark.

  5. Mariana Paes May 2, 2016 / 10:43 am

ouch, pixel goes right for the jugular..

    shoulnd’ this be rated r??

    • allein May 2, 2016 / 10:51 am

All that stuffing pouring out on the floor really turned my stomach…

  6. Margaret May 2, 2016 / 11:03 am

If I was Pixel’s parents I’d buy thrift store stuffies or make them.

  7. Murray C. May 2, 2016 / 11:08 am

All that effort for a sharkskin suit – very retro, tho’.

    • Kar May 2, 2016 / 10:59 pm

      Is that how they’re made?

  8. ffleur2 May 2, 2016 / 11:22 am

I remember Pixel fondly as the little dude who couldn’t get his cat-sibling to stay out of his bed. It was good to see P. return to a cat-less bed complete with comforting stuffy after his heroic battle with USS Shark.

      Don’t open the door!!!

    • Gigi_the cat lady May 2, 2016 / 2:25 pm

      It’s Grandma.

  10. Ricky's Mom May 2, 2016 / 1:43 pm

See, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Pixel wearing what’s left of poor old Sharkey is too much! πŸ™‚

  11. Frosty May 2, 2016 / 3:46 pm

“And I shall wear the skin of my enemies!”

  12. sugitomo May 2, 2016 / 6:06 pm

    “Oh, the humanity..!”

  13. Kar May 2, 2016 / 6:26 pm

I’m not sure what’s more horrifying:

    1. Wearing the skins of your enemy as pajamas.

    2. The demonic GLOWING Eyes of that devil dog. Like something out of the Baskervilles

  14. SAA1451 May 2, 2016 / 10:45 pm

Maybe it is the nearness of Cinco de Mayo but @ 1:27 I could swear Pixel is thinking
“What a Rip-Off! No candy!” (or in his case probably “no snausages”)

  15. Clairdelune May 2, 2016 / 11:29 pm

Hmmm. Pixel seems a little too enthusiastic. Call me crazy, but I don’t think I could go to sleep at night knowing that Pixel is in the house…. :-/

    • Faye May 3, 2016 / 6:36 am

It’s amazing how quickly Pixel let loose his inner stuffy killer instincts.
