Set Sail for Romance!

Yes, return with us now to those carefree days when The Love Boat sailed the seas, with romance and comedy in every port of call! Join Captain Stubby and the entire crew for love and laughs. On tonight’s episode, a swaggering womanizer (Burt Reynolds) is double-booked into the same stateroom with a militant feminist (Bea Arthur), who shoves him through a porthole.

I would watch that episode even without an adorable goggie captain. Captain Stubby is icing on the cake.

      Me, too!

Remember the episode when Isaac the bartender was able to pick up audible radio stations through a filling in his tooth? Wacky hijinks ensued and lots of canned laughter, mostly laughing at Isaac.

That actually happened to Lucille Ball!

Anyway, I’m a sucker for a stubbular sort of dog and this little pooch fills the bill.

I started hearing the song as soon as I read The Love Boat.
?The Loooove Boat, soon will be making another run.
The Loooove Boat promises something for everyone.
        Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance…?
Cpt. Stubby looks ready to party!

Back during the WWII era when the radio station 700wlw was operating at full power, if people were anywhere near the station they could hear it in their fillings and could also hear it if they were near wire fences etc.

When she described her experience on the Johnny Carson Show she reported what she kept hearing when she passed a certain spot to and from work and it supposedly turned out to be a German Spy communications center.

I always thought that was an urban myth as old fillings were made from mercury right? (I still have a couple in my mouth) and I didn’t think they could conduct sound. But heck, shows you what I know! 😀

I would have paid money to see Bea Arthur shove Burt Reynold through a porthole, of course even better would have been Maude shoving Archie through a porthole!! 😀

Yepper. She was a gem, that Maude. I still laugh at her line about how she got a black eye: “I was jumping rope without a bra.”

      You do that.

Frankly Rule 34 is now running some images through my head and I need to stick my head OUT of that porthole. Seriously, what is it with Bea Arthur? Like that guy who paid what, a million dollars for her topless painting. ‘

In the meantime maybe this cutie and I can go catch a yacht rock show.

I want to sit at Captain Stubby’ s table, even though it would be uncomfortably low.

This sounds like a GREAT episode.

In my high school French class, we sang our translation of the theme song:
    Le bateau d’amour
    fera tot un autra voyage.
    Le bateau d’amour
promet quelque chose pour tous le monde . . .

Just be grateful you can’t hear my singing voice or forgotten French accent.

Sadly, as a teenager at the time, I was always home on Saturday nights to watch “The Love Boat”! (I have never been, and never will be, cool!) I don’t recall anyone on the show being as cute as this little fella!

    • Murray C. May 11, 2016 / 9:59 pm

Tell me about it! I didn’t watch the LoveBoat – a bit past my time – but I did watch other shows on those long Saturday nights. Or else retreated to my room and lip-synched 45 rpm records. Oooops, have I revealed too much????

      • Phred's Mom May 12, 2016 / 1:15 pm

Murray, I still have most of my old 45s.
Most Chuck Berry, Fats D, but no Elvis.
Couldn’t abide him, but Mom loved him.

        • Murray C. May 12, 2016 / 3:13 pm

My first 45 was Jailhouse Rock – my only Elvis recording – I liked Elvis in those early days when he sang like that but hated it when he crooned – and he always wanted to be a crooner. I thought he sounded goopy, even at the tender age of ?.
