The Squeaky Meal

Shout-out to Gail for her tip and nice note: “I love you more than words can say, you pencil neck! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been a fan since CO days. I don’t comment often, but rest assure I read every cute entry and sometimes have a giggle fit with your clever, witty writings.”

Since we met some squeaky rhinos yesterday, let’s have lunch with these baby otters, in the care of animal rescuer Frank Cuesta. After learning the pups were to be sold on the black market, Cuesta intervened and brought them to his rehab facility in Thailand.

I’m pretty sure otters are living squeaky toys.

  2. Luv Bunny May 18, 2016 / 3:41 pm

Those otter squeaks are too much, they keeled me. They’re also so adorable. I admire that Frank rescued them from the black market but I hope as they grow, they are around water, so they can learn to swim.

  3. Debg May 18, 2016 / 3:58 pm

Another guy for the calendar. And who on earth buys black-market otters? (Don’t answer, please–I don’t want to know.)

    • Kar May 19, 2016 / 12:23 am

The same misguided idiots who buy black market sloths.

      Stop people. Really.

  4. Faye May 18, 2016 / 4:02 pm

When do they start dunking their heads right into the milk? Oh yeah that was the Raccoons!

Milk faces kilt me after the squeaking exploded my maternal heart. Brought me right out of menopause.

The leetle moufs going a mile a minute!

  5. Julie May 18, 2016 / 4:15 pm

I want to know what he is saying. I love when he says “….yeah, yeah, yeah…” like he’s saying, “…yeah, yeah, yeah I get that you’re hungry and I’m not serving you fast enough!”

Also, note to videographer – Human Man is easy on the eyes, but I would have preferred more otter footage.

    • Phred's Mom May 18, 2016 / 4:39 pm

Agree, Julie. Cute guy, but cuter otterpups.

    • AJ May 18, 2016 / 5:24 pm

Did a google search and here’s a link to all otter nomming for your viewing pleasure at Mr. Cuesta’s sanctuary

        Awesome. Thanks!

      • allein May 18, 2016 / 6:40 pm

I love the way they chew. They kinda look like puppets. But cuter.

    • Kar May 19, 2016 / 12:25 am

I dunno, all three of them were kind of cute. Love that this guy rescued those little guys.

  6. Brouhaha May 18, 2016 / 4:29 pm

cereal for otters? Is it at least fish/oyster/clam flavored? *gag*

    • Julie May 18, 2016 / 4:45 pm

      BBWWAAAHHHH!!

      Double *gag*!!

    • Duckie May 18, 2016 / 6:04 pm

More gag. Could we please go back to just snorting liquid foods from our noses?
      ??

    • diane in los angeles May 19, 2016 / 11:58 am

Cat food plus some sort of milk (thought I heard ‘comida del gato’) as he was pouring it.

      ridiculously cute

But so much food! They must be growing an inch a day with all of that.

    • 4leafclover May 19, 2016 / 12:21 pm

Perhaps it’s Admiral Ackbar cereal? (“It’s a trap!”)

The “You May Also Enjoy” is wonderful!!

“I’m no phony, Mama’s gonna bring you abalone”

    and the “Decommissioned USS Wheelbarrow”

Oh, Nom Tom, your website is the gift that keeps on giving!

  9. Sumo-Mermaid May 18, 2016 / 5:05 pm

Mr “Not T Mike,” since you’ve done so many other nice adjustments to your site at the request of commenters, is there any chance you could add a “return to top” arrow at the bottom of the comments section, that would bring readers (or just me) right to the Previous Article, Next Article area? At the bottom of the page, that’s always where I want to go. Many, many thanx for your consideration!

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike May 18, 2016 / 5:23 pm

Hmmm, I can add a button that scrolls back to the top of the page. (I just added one now) I’ll have to see if I can find a button system that scrolls to a selected spot on the page. That’s a good suggestion, and thank you for bringing it up.

QUESTION: It sounds like what might also meet your need is a pair of “next post” and “previous post” buttons that stay onscreen as you scroll the page up and down. I’ve seen this effect on other websites. What do you think?

  10. Duckie May 18, 2016 / 6:15 pm

Mike, it’s probably just me, but I am finding the little arrows nauseating. Does anyone know how to turn that option off on my iPad, so that others can still use it? It’s probably a great idea, but the way they don’t move while the rest of the screen does causes motion sickness for me.
(Autocorrect typed that as “moron sickness”. It might be right, for once.)

    • Haha May 18, 2016 / 8:23 pm

Dickie, I am sorry you felt nauseous, I understand. It is awful. But thank you so much for sharing auto correct’s editorial comment on moron sickness. Next time I am feeling it, at lease I will get an inappropriate little giggle.

      • Haha May 18, 2016 / 8:32 pm

And apparently I need to check the nice edit option NTMTOM installed for us a bit more carefully so that I spell people’s names correctly. Sorry D-U-ckie.

        • Smartypants May 18, 2016 / 8:43 pm

I love the Edit option – I don’t use it often, but just knowing it’s available makes it easier to post freely and helps to ward off those “Oh ****!” moments ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, I can think of a multitude of uses for “moron sickness” – perfect!

  11. 6rabbits May 18, 2016 / 9:56 pm

    The squeakingks!! ?
When they are climbing all over the gates they look like that toy that is basically a piece of fluff with eyes, and you use a string to make it do exactly what those adora-bebehs are doing. ‘Cept otters are way cuter of course!
(Ok, how can there not be an otter emoji?! Who gets to choose that stuff?)

  12. 6rabbits May 18, 2016 / 9:59 pm

    This…

    • Haha May 18, 2016 / 10:17 pm

I knew exactly what you were talking about. ๐Ÿ™‚ Those were fun to play!

  13. Clairdelune May 18, 2016 / 10:00 pm

NTMTOM, the Cute is reaching a lethal level. These tiny squeaky babies … GAAAHHHHH! Keeling over with the others. You may have to provide a keeling space for all the victims of Excessive Qte.

  14. sugitomo May 18, 2016 / 11:42 pm

They had me when he opened the door, and one of them fell off, and the other remained clinging to the gate. They are like squeaky slippers come to life.

    • Faye May 19, 2016 / 7:26 am

Yes the door clinging was funny.

  15. Mariana May 19, 2016 / 4:03 am

as far as I can tell he is getting them ready for in a few months trying to set them free. he gives them cat food with milk. and told them that after eating is bath time!!!

    • Faye May 19, 2016 / 7:27 am

      I heard gato. Yay.

      • Haha May 19, 2016 / 7:40 am

?There once was a cat named Don Gato?
Does gato mean something other than cat?
Hopefully curiosity doesn’t kill me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Mariana May 19, 2016 / 9:40 am

here in portugal and brasil if a guy/girl is called gato/gata/gatinho/gatinha it means he/she is handsome/pretty/cute.

          • Mariana May 19, 2016 / 9:56 am

and the phrase: “aqui hรก gato” means: “there’s something fishy (here/going on)”

        • murkle46 May 19, 2016 / 12:29 pm

O Senor Don Gato was a cat.
On a high red roof Don Gato sat.
He was there to read a letter,
          (meow, meow, meow)
where the reading light was better,
          (meow, meow, meow)
‘Twas a love-note for Don Gato!
“I adore you,’ wrote the ladycat,
who was fluffy white, and nice and fat.
There was not a sweeter kitty,
          (meow, meow, meow)
in the country or the city
          (meow, meow, meow)
and she said she’d wed Don Gato!
O Senor Don Gato jumped with glee!
He fell off the roof and broke his knee,
broke his ribs and all his whiskers,
          (meow, meow, meow)
          and his little solar plexus
          (meow, meow, meow)
          “Ay Caramba!’ cried Don Gato.
All the doctors they came on the run,
just to see if something could be done.
          And they held a consultation,
          (meow, meow, meow)
about how to save their patient,
          (meow, meow, meow)
how to save Senor Don Gato.
But in spite of everything they tried,
poor Senor Don Gato up and died.
          No, it wasn’t very merry,
          (meow, meow, meow)
          going to the cemetary,
          (meow, meow, meow)
for the ending of Don Gato.
But as the the funeral passed the market square,
such a smell of fish was in the air,
          though the burial was plated,
          (meow, meow, meow)
          he became reanimated,
          (meow, meow, meow)
he came back to life, Don Gato!

They eat with their hands! I love animals that eat with their hands.

  17. Madame X May 19, 2016 / 12:00 pm

Mr. Cuesta has a lovely Spanish accent (as in from Spain, the country, not the language). And the bebbeh otters (impatient little buggers, aren’t they?) are absolutely ADORABLE!!!

  18. Anna Amich May 19, 2016 / 12:35 pm

LUV BUNNY at the end he says they are going to have a bath.
Was going to translate for you but is all “come on, let’s go” except the mentioned above and that they eat cat-crounchies with milk. He also stated that at six month old they are “meaning” to them to learn Them to be scared of human when released into the wild.
