Links: Whoa, Canada!

Crazy Capybara Caper: Toronto residents are on the lookout for a capybara couple who escaped the High Park Zoo last Tuesday, leaving behind Chewy, the odd man out. (via a whole buncha folks in the comments section, plus Andrew Y. UPDATE: Thanks also to Mary for sending this in.)

Canuck Ca-nicks Ca-knife: Meanwhile, Vancouverites are coping with the news that local celebrity Canuck the Crow attempted to interfere in a police investigation by stealing a knife used in a crime. Although the knife was recovered, Canuck flew the scene, and authorities are looking for a stool pigeon to reveal his whereabouts. (via Megan W.)

Chewy doesn’t look like he particularly cares.

Ha ha ha this is AMAZING! I live in Canada, on an island just off the Vancouver mainland. I think I should go over to specifically look for Canuck! I gotta meet that crow!!

I’m obsessed with the High Park Capybaras. They have their own twitter feed and there’s a surprising volume of resources being rolled out in the pursuit. I hope they are found safe and sound. There’s lots of marshy areas and ponds in High Park – prime capybara territory. What would be interesting is if we develop a capybara population if they reproduce before they are apprehended (though I’m not sure how they’d like our Toronto winters…..). The High Park Peacock that escaped from the same zoo last summer eventually returned to the zoo on its own, I seem to recall, after leading rescuers on quite the wild goose (peacock) chase.

Capybaras roaming the wilds of Canada? Probably not good for local flora/fauna, but the idea is so delightful that, right now, I wouldn’t care.

Tropical cappies + Canadian winter = frowny face.

…and for the second story – silly Canuck, put down the knife – “a murder of crows” is just a figure of speech!

I wish all our news stories were that cute!

Sounds like Canuck might be trying to partner with that knife wielding crab.
Crow and Crab Inc. No job too dirty, be it on land, sea or air.

Can someone post a link please.

Crows like shiny things, that’s not really dark. However, stealing evidence from crime scenes is not a good habit.

I wonder if they have rehab for that?

Yes…it was founded by the underwear-stealing cat 😀

They can send that seagull who steals doritos.

Chewy seems pretty content with having his own room/space now. I hope the two cappys are found safe though.

I gotta say I felt bad for Chewy..

Also, capybaras always seem so zen and relaxed.. wouldn’t peg them as escape artists
it’s always the quite ones, right??
