Three Little Bobcat Kittens

When three bobcat kittens were discovered without their mother in the woods of Alabama, rescuers knew they’d never survive without a mom. So they found a nursing housecat who accepted the trio into her own family. With a proper mom, the three can be raised and released back into the wild.

Little black and white kitteh at the end: Mooommm! Get them out of my room!!!

Did the person who found them know what kind of cats they were? Did he seriously want to give his kids wildcats for pets?

My bet is that these babies didn’t need “rescuing” by the hunter. Wild mammal parents will leave their offspring for hours at a time to hunt or forage. Wildlife experts say that if you find a baby animal in the wild, you should leave it alone and observe it from afar–for hours or even a day–to give its mama a chance to return and take care of it.

Maybe he just thought if he brought them to the vet they would domesticate them so he could make pets out of them…

My friend moved into a house with woods behind it last year, and earlier in the spring she was posting videos of the litter of baby foxes whose den she could see from her backyard. Most of them didn’t include mom; just the babies playing around near the den.

Do little bobcat kittens have mittens?
    And do they like pie?

Welcome to the site! Your comment made me curious about who Cole and Marmalade are, and I found their YouTube page with a very funny video, “Cat Logic,” on the main page.

Oh the boys. I’m a big fan. The humans are totally dedicated to Cole and Marmalade being happy. The house is full of toys and a really really big couch.

Bobcats as pets–hope the hunter got talked out of it. What precious babies, and what a great mum!

NOMTOM! Thanks for posting Marmalade and Cole. I’ve missed them since CO shut down.

I don’t remember if CO brought me to Cole and marmalade or if it was something else but I’ve been following them since. He also puts up helpful videos

I don’t remember Cole and Marmalade from the Old Ranch but am pleased to make their acquiantance now! As for the baby bobcat, they are adorable and what a lovely mama cat to be a surrogate for them!

I can’t believe I live so close to Big Cat Rescue! I think they’re about 20 minutes from my house, seriously. I will definitely be touring and supporting them, you bet! Such a terrific organization! And I love the way they’re raising the bobcat babies with minimal human contact so they’ll be able to return to the wild, where they belong.

The guy wanted to give bobcats to his kids as pet???
That is wrong on so many levels.

I love Cole and Marmalade, had not seen their baby video, sooo cute!

    Ummm.

Yea for fostering but aren’t these guys going to be the size of mom in about a week? I would hate for them to inadvertently hurt her or their siblings trying to play.

That was my reaction also. I was reminded of the episode in Bambi’s Children (a very inferior book compared to Bambi, but I enjoyed them both when I was a child) where a cuckoo leaves an egg in a finch’s nest and the baby cuckoo is as big as the adult finches in a matter of days. That fostering relationship does not seem like a long-term solution.

That said, a rescue organization probably knows what it’s doing, so maybe they have a Plan B (or Plan A, Part 2) for when the bobcats are as big as the adult domestic cat and are still nursing.

What an absolutely sweet, loving mama cat! And with so many cute, squee-worthy tuxie babies of her own. I hope the little bobcats thrive and can go back to the wild soon.

This video is from 2010. I checked their YouTube channel and yes, I believe they were all reintroduced in the wild

I had to laugh at the bit when he said the babies also accepted the mom. Uh . . . YEAH. The Milk Bar was open–it’s not like they had to think about it!
