Scaredy Cat Stack

… as we watched the monster from a safe distance, my companions and I shared a feeling of violation, an awareness that our carefully-ordered world was being sterilized against our will, wiped clean of our very presence…

You could say the odds were stacked against us.

… it was then we understood the full power of — the vacuum cleaner!

My Stars wouldn’t even get that close. She hides under my dad’s bed if there is vacuuming going on anywhere in the house. Unless they’re vacuuming the bedroom, and then she probably goes in the basement (central vacuum system; you can hear it in the living room, too).

I give my two Maine Coons fair warning of “your enemy is coming, you need to flee” when the vacuum cleaner comes out.

I try to warn mine, but it never does any good. They’ll sit right there and watch me get out the vacuum, plug it in, etc. It’s only when I turn it on that they are suddenly shocked–SHOCKED–to find it making that horrible noise again.

        Lol ?

My cat is the polar opposite. I can pick the vacuum up and set it back down without turning it on, and I won’t see her for 3 hours. 😀

I have five cats at the moment, four of them are terrified of the vacuum cleaner and will run like mad to get away from it, they will hide in the basement, but Boo the stray cat I adopted a few years ago, couldn’t care less. He will not budge unless I’m actually pulling the piece of furniture he is sleeping on, then he will walk away with a hurt look on his face to find somewhere else to sleep.

While Stars runs and hides, Stripes will let you vacuum him.

Stars will sit in the middle of the coiled up hose, though, if it’s unplugged, like it’s a big snake she’s slain.

We had a kitty when I was little, Melinda, who loved being vacuumed, too. It certainly makes for less loose fur in the house! But since then I’ve never had another one that would even stay in the same room as that evil sucking noise monster.

Unfortunately, Stars is the one who could really use a good vacuuming. Stripes doesn’t shed half as much as she does.

She loves being rolled with the lint roller, though. If she hears it she will come running, and if you don’t do it she’ll cry until you do. Which makes it funnier because she otherwise almost never talks at all.

GIGI_THE CAT LADY, may I just say a heart-felt THANK YOU for your correct usage of “couldN’T care less”? *bows deeply*

      • Faye June 1, 2016 / 8:27 am

Yup. Me too. I always cringe when people say, “I could care less.” Eww

      Gigi, I’m impressed and humbled by your industriousness…. I mean, you actually PULL A PIECE OF FURNITURE when you vacuum?? You must be related to Mugumogu. I swear there must be prehistoric dustballs under some of my larger furniture items. :-{

A few weeks ago I moved a shelf thingy from one corner of my bedroom over to the corner next to the dresser where I get ready in the morning. I pulled a bag of stuff out of the corner so I could vacuum first. I was amazed at the sheer amount of hair I pulled up just running my hand over the carpet. How am I not bald?!

Also, the vacuum is still sitting in my bedroom.

Is this Japanese? Because from what we’ve seen of their homes, there must be an Attack of the Vacuum Monster (as it’s known around my place) at least once an hour. Fortunately for my cats, it’s a much rarer occurrence.

The fastest I’ve ever seen my Jack (the Big Fat Orange Cat) move was when I was vacuuming. I assumed he was under the bed, and started vacuuming into the closet when ZOOM! Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a blur of orange.

Looks like an even number of catses to me. ?

      • allein May 31, 2016 / 7:07 pm

Well, if you count the kitty head on the mat behind the top kitty…

My cat doesn’t really mind the vacuum cleaner. May be on account of me using one of those “white noise” sleeping apps (my favourite sound is the vacuum cleaner noise) every night ?

    • allein May 31, 2016 / 7:22 pm

I have one of those. I gravitate toward water sounds. My favorite is the rain on a wooden deck. Though lately I’ve been listening to Beethoven and Bach to go to sleep.

      • 6rabbits June 1, 2016 / 7:27 am

Personally, I’m good with “box fan” to go to sleep!

        • allein June 1, 2016 / 8:08 am

I have a ceiling fan. On low it’s fairly quiet and on medium I find it too distracting.

Kitty on the bottom is all “I’m telling ya, I heard a story that one snuck up and sat on a kitten’s chest while it was sleeping at night then it sucked all the breath out it! The kitten suffocated!”

    • 6rabbits June 1, 2016 / 7:28 am

      Lol?
