A Tight Spot

Shout-out to Judith for a very kind donation. Thank you so much. Now for something different: Here’s a short film that I saw recently, centered around a classic cartoon gag with an unsettling twist. Despite the creepy mood, it’s not scary.

Just before disaster struck I thought of that old saying about the pitcher going to the well one time too many. I guess in his case it was true.

    Creepy. But funny.

It has that classic Twilight Zone vibe to it, doesn’t it? A moral tale wrapped in weird that let’s imagination do all the work…

Good observation. Rod Serling could have built a whole TZ episode on this premise. If only they’d had copiers back then.

You’re absolutely right, very Twilight Zone, especially the ending!

KNEW something bad would happen, but not that! Then I started thinking…how much air? what time is it–cos if it’s late at night he’s doomed, but if it’s lunch time he might get saved? Will the person who finds the money take off with it or will s/he realize the possibilities of the black hole and take IT? Twilight Zone, indeed.
(Hey…wonder if someone in the future will think “Twilight Zone” has something to do with the book series…cos that would just be so _wrong_!)

p.s. Tabitha, how do you make that smiley?

Sorry-didn’t mean to scare everyone! It just hit me all of a sudden.

I just wonder how this era will be understood in the distant future, like archeologists trying to figure out what some gaget was used for, or finding scraps of our books and trying to translate our very idiomatic language. If someone 400 yrs in the future read a 20th century book that mentioned a “drug store” would they understand it refers to a pharmacy, not a place to score illegal substances?
            Yep, I’m weird.

I don’t think the public will soon forget “The Twilight Zone” because it still has a presence in current culture. The annual TZ marathon is a New Year’s Day tradition on the SyFy cable channel, and Disney parks on both the east and west coast have a popular attraction themed to the show, complete with Rod Serling introduction.

_Distant_ future; passed out of living memory.

    Creepily clever or celeverly creepy?

When he kept going back for more money the fourth and fifth time I heard my mother’s voice in my head saying “dont be greedy”. That’s one lesson she made sure I learned.
    Thanks mom.

So many things he could do with that, and he goes for money?

    • Faye June 1, 2016 / 10:04 pm

      What would you do first?

      • Duckie June 2, 2016 / 12:20 am

Find out how much it can hold, and
-put as much garbage in as I could, to prevent pollution
-if it’s waterproof, fill it and use it to put out forest fires.
-see if it could be used to hold people and do some rescuing, or shelter homeless.
        -live in it?

          Beautiful!

          • Duckie June 2, 2016 / 12:08 pm

But puppies and Snickers bars sound good, too…

    • allein June 1, 2016 / 10:08 pm

Well, he did get a Snickers first. ?

      • Faye June 1, 2016 / 10:11 pm

        Free puppies!!

        • birdcage June 2, 2016 / 9:42 am

I admit: I kept waiting for puppies, because this is NTMTOM and eventually there are always puppies, right?

          • Faye June 2, 2016 / 10:54 pm

            There’s always puppies!!

          • Skimpy June 3, 2016 / 12:01 pm

            They’re on the other side.
“Oh my god, it’s full of puppies!”
… yes I know, I’ll go back to reading the comments only :o)

Was I the only one thinking, “maybe you shouldn’t leave the door wide open while you do that…”?

  8. Kar June 1, 2016 / 10:35 pm

How Freaking Deep is that Safe!!!

Not an experienced jewel thief but that seems kind of long for a cube dimensioned safe. Is there something non-Euclidean going on there?

    • Clairdelune June 1, 2016 / 10:55 pm

But of course, Kar!! We’re talking fifth dimension here… forget Euclid… Think Rod Serling, Gene Roddenberry, and all that good stuff.
      Thanks, Mike!! Made my day.

    • Duckie June 2, 2016 / 12:12 am

      It’s a TARDIS!

  9. Em June 1, 2016 / 11:27 pm

I’m thinking about Fay’s question. Not sure what I would do first. What came to mind was the Sam Cooke song:
    Don’t know much about history
    Don’t know much biology
Don’t know much about a science book,
Don’t know much about the french I took
Don’t know much about this black dot
    Don’t know if it’s a Black Hole
But I do know that if is
What an frightening world this would be

    • Faye June 2, 2016 / 6:18 am

      Awesome!
