I Have Just Met You, and I Hate You

A firm called The Temptations Lab has announced an electronic cat collar that will interpret your cat’s meows and translate them into human phrases meant to express what the cat is trying to say, a la the dog collars in the movie Up. Among the most issued phrases so far: “Please take this stupid collar off me.”

If this is a hoax, it’s a darned elaborate one, Andrew Y.

I think that there’s a reason why we don’t have translating collars for Dogs and Cats.

I don’t want to know what drivel my dog is yammering about. Certainly don’t want to hear my cat’s derogatory comments either.

My guess would be that every other sentence would be, “I LKE those Temptation treats!! We should buy more!!!”

My cats can make themselves understood perfectly well without that collar!

Sorry NTMTOM, but I can’t imagine any cat I know starting his/her sentence with “Please”. It would be more like “Take this d#$% collar off me, NOW.

Bacon. Out. In. Out. In. You gonna eat that? You gonna eat that. Are you awake. Feed me. Now. Now. Now. How about now. Bacon.

“Thank you for calling Collar Hotline. Have you tried removing it, turning it off and then smashing it with a brick?”

        My cat won’t let me.

This is not elaborate for a commercial, which is what it is, but it was inspired by an actual product for dogs. Researchers are working on special vests that allow bomb sniffing dogs to “tell” their handlers what kind of explosives they detect.
