No Raccoon Left Behind

Here’s an uplifting sight: With one raccoon baby over the wall and one left to go, momma and baby form a chain to haul the baby safely up. Yay, teamwork!

Nice teamwork from Andrew Y. and Murray C. as well.

Just thinking about how many times I heard folks say “oh, it’s just a dumb animal…”

Prime example of logical thinking, and love and/or/ biological drive to protect the young. Which too many humans lack.

    Thanks, Mike, and the photographer.

It’s like the slip wall on that Spartan racing show! The team has to work together to get everyone over. This version is much cuter than muddy people, though.

Did I mention I absolutely love Rocket Raccoon?

If you haven’t seen the documentary by (I think) National Geographic, it will heighten your fears/hopes.

They are extremely adaptable and opportunistic. They thrive close to humans. In fact, the biggest populations of raccoons are in urban areas! If they evolve opposable thumbs, humans are in deep trouble!?

Awww. Looks like it’s blowing up a storm. Hurry home, babies. Keep safe, everyone together.

Thank you for the welcome! Nice to be noticed. Appreciate all the smiles & “awwwws”!

Raccoons are excellent mothers. And their young stay with them for a relatively long period of time.

Ladies and gentlemen…the Flying Trash Pandas!

Trash pandas are very, very smart and ingenious critters. They’re so imaginative!

Speaking of imaginative animals, I read earlier today that apparently female bears with cubs are starting to stay closer to human habitations — not too close, just close enough that the males stay away. Because male bears are known to kill another bear’s cubs just to mate with the female (who won’t mate again till her cubs have moved out). So the bears have figured out that there’s less to fear from humans than their fellow bears! Yay for smart animals!

And BOO for dumb humans. The lovely story I told Saturday about the little cocker spaniel going to live with the vet with PTSD? Well,l guess who came to live with us instead today? Because Mrs. Vet had agreed to give Sebastian the cocker a try, but decided today she wants a SMALLER dog. Enough to leave her husband sobbing as he left the dog with us. Seriously, how can she be that hard-hearted? He’s a total sweetheart! And it looks like he’s going to be a mama’s boy, which is just fine since our greyhound is a daddy’s girl. But it’ll take me a long time to get over being mad at Mrs. Vet for her selfishness, I can tell you THAT!

🙁 Cocker spaniels aren’t that big!

Would Mr. Vet be able to visit?

      • Laura June 22, 2016 / 10:29 pm

He’s welcome to see Sebastian any time he’d like to. As is the young woman who’s giving him up. I’m not sure it would help Mr. Vet at this point, though; my husband is going to help him find another dog, a SMALLER dog (sheesh!), and at that point I think he could see Sebastian without crying. But I don’t want to break his heart over and over again, you know?

But we consider ourselves lucky to have such a wonderful pup added to our crazy zoo, so all’s well that ends well. We hope.

Well, I’m glad he has a good home. Hope hubby finds another pup for the vet soon.

        • Faye June 22, 2016 / 10:48 pm

Maybe A therapy Chihuahua. A senior Chihuahua. This way the vet can take the dog with him 24/7. Or a spotty mini Dachshund.

    • 6rabbits June 23, 2016 / 6:02 pm

OMGosh! How could Mrs. Vet do that to her tramatized husband?!? Cockers are NOT big dogs! I hope your husband can find him a substitute soon. Post a pic of the puppy, please?

So determined, those little banditos. Love raccoons!
