Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system.

Hey fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ We had a parade here in Port Credit complete with the Starsky & Hutch car followed by the LGBT Mississauga youth group and then Hazel Mccallion who was our mayor up until last year when she retired at age 92. That is not a typo, she is age 94 now.

Well, two great things celebrated on one day Allein– Canada and baked beans! But I love Canada more as I have it everyday. ๐Ÿ˜€

        Thank you, everyone.

          • Murray C. July 1, 2016 / 8:18 pm

These are terrific. We need to do something like that.

            • fkaWaldenPond July 1, 2016 / 9:00 pm

Seriously Murray C., you would be hard pressed to find a 30, 40ish Canadian who does not think when they smell random burnt toast smell that they are about to have a seizure. The slightly older generation, as in my older brother who moved down to the States in 90’s and missed a lot of the ‘Heritage Moments’ knows all about ‘Hinterland Who’s Who.’ The flute sound music takes me to the Cardinal Red Wing and vice versa whenever I hear a Cardinal Red Wing to… the Hinterland Who’s Who. So there, big insider secret of Canadians… much more so than eye rolly ‘eh’, ‘Timmies’ and ‘poutine.’ http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/hinterland-who-s-who-beaver-vignette-found-in-archives-1.1411232

I’m a Canadian who does not react to the smell of burnt toast in that fashion.

                • fkaWaldenPond July 4, 2016 / 2:06 pm

You will now since you have seen the heritage short…;) ๐Ÿ˜€

          • 6rabbits July 1, 2016 / 8:55 pm

The article mentions that the original heritage minutes came on between cartoons. Anybody grow up watching School House Rock in the commercial space during Saturday Morning Cartoons? I swear that’s how I learned my times tables, how a bill became a law, and I still SING the preamble to the constitution! (I show the DVD to my students, but it doesn’t have the same impact.)

            • fkaWaldenPond July 1, 2016 / 9:07 pm

Yes! As a Canadian we would get our ABC, NBC etc cartoons from Buffalo signal and still (and thankfully to this day)…”Conjunction, junction! What’s your function?!’ or ‘Noun!, person, place or thing!’ twang!

              • Gigi_the cat lady July 1, 2016 / 10:27 pm

I remember them all, Heritage Moments, Hinterland Whoโ€™s Who and School House Rock !

Love School House Rock and frequently show grammar bits to my students (Conjunction Junction is a favorite of mine because they have terrible problems with comma splicing).

            • Smartypants July 2, 2016 / 7:50 am

Me too! Just the other day I was trying to recall whether the right to “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is enshrined in the Constitution or in the Declaration of Independence, and I remembered my Schoolhouse Rock (it’s the Declaration).

      • Murray C. July 1, 2016 / 8:06 pm

Yay, Canada. Hopefully you won’t have to build a wall to keep us all out if he-who- must-not-be-named gets elected.?

        • fkaWaldenPond July 2, 2016 / 1:02 am

Nah, I have faith in the majority of your peoples. The correct choice may not be the perfect choice (but hopefully she got the message with all the upright middle finger votes for Saunders.) Rally together peeps please and thank you.

      • 6rabbits July 1, 2016 / 8:48 pm

        Ditto!? ??

        • Faye July 1, 2016 / 9:03 pm

Ditto as well. I’m half Canadian heritage. Is it like Israel? Can I get in via my Dad’s Canadian conception and birth? Please. Pretty please!!

    • Gigi_the cat lady July 1, 2016 / 6:50 pm

We had a parade in Montreal too and we had Superheroes there!

    • Birdcage July 2, 2016 / 9:20 am

Hey Walden – Are you in Port Credit? I grew up in Clarkson!

      • fkaWaldenPond July 2, 2016 / 10:57 am

Yes Birdcage!:) Moved out here from Riverdale in 2009. Are you in the environs still?

        • birdcage July 4, 2016 / 2:26 pm

I live in southeast Oakville now, but my folks are still in Clarkson and I’m in Port Credit often (for burgers at The Burgers Priest, sigh).
