That poor raccoon!
Short of saying I need help getting back to shore, I don’t see how the raccoon could have behaved more intelligently. And it’s not so clear to me who is actually walking who, as between the pig and the cat.
Raccoon must have been exhausted!
I was thinking the same thing on the question of “who’s walking who?”
The expression in the raccoon’s eyes hurt my heart.
And the absence of the raccoon’s fluffy tail made me feel uncomfortable, as if I’d accidentally seen him/her naked.
Me, too. You could see the raccoon saying “please help me”.
That is one tired-looking raccoon! Wonder how they ended up out there.
Swan Creek is spelled with one N! and here is a linkie to more story as it was in the local paper…

Thanks for sharing that. 🙂
Thank you for the link, because I wondered about what finally happened to him.Onto the bank after a 100 yard tow.
Poor little critter.
Awesome rescue. I’m glad they thought to use the life vest rather than trying to reach over and nab him by hand – probably safer for them and less distressing for him.
I agree with Smartypants, that was the best way to help, we must alway remember that as cute as trash pandas are they are wild animals and when in distress they can bite or scratch out of fear or pain. Altho this poor baby was probably too tired do anything except flop down exhausted.
Don’t get too close to rattoons*- they can hurt you. The guys were right not to scoop him up in a crab net. The life jacket was best for humans and Rocky.
*family pronunciation of raccoon – our daughter had trouble with K sounds when she was learning to talk.
That poor raccoon! Imagine him crying for hours! I wonder how he got so far from land in the first place? He needed warm blankies and some chicken soup after that ordeal!
Are you sure the cat isn’t taking the pig for a walk? Kinda hard to tell from this angle…
