An Appeal on Behalf of All Cats

As we know, cats crave the comforting shelter of a box. Yet every night, underprivileged cats in North America go to sleep without a box to call their own.

lilybox01

But you can make a difference. Every time you order from Amazon.com, you’ll receive a sturdy Amazon box, just right for your cat or the cats in your neighborhood.

lilybox02

But that’s not all. A portion of your purchase will benefit The Pay NTMTOM’s Internet Bills Foundation. And if you shop with Amazon Smile, you can help a real charity as well.

lilybox03

If you live in Canada, you can help too, by visiting Amazon.ca. Be sure to click the links in the sidebar of this site every time you shop, and together we can end boxlessness in our lifetime.

And now, a testimonial from boxer-inner Jan B.: “Lily the Fierce and Fabulous (who I introduced a week ago in the weekend open thread) tries out her first box and decides that she likes it. Items shipped in it were ordered through your affiliate link, natch. Thanks for helping keep me sane!”

Such perfectly pink ears she has!

  2. debg July 19, 2016 / 11:19 am

Jan B., I’m so glad Lily isn’t boxless any more. She’s gorgeous!

    • Jan July 19, 2016 / 1:59 pm

Yes, and she knows it and exploits it!

      • Kar July 19, 2016 / 5:39 pm

Jan, I really hope that the box was for a really expensive cat bed. I’m guessing Lily’s going to be living in that box for a few months.

        • Jan July 19, 2016 / 6:15 pm

Art supplies actually. Her kitty bed is my bed when I’m in it and my lap/chest when I’m sitting. That’s when she actually sleeps and isn’t striking terror into the hearts of furniture, blankets and toes everywhere! (I didn’t call her ‘Fierce’ for nothing!)

Her eyebrow dots are to die for!
P.S. I usually take off the top flaps of boxes so I don’t have to listen to the drumming tap tap tap noise at 3 o’clock in the morning.

    • Kar July 19, 2016 / 7:39 pm

Reminds me of a Japanese doll or print. When the brow is basically floating in the middle of the forehead for no apparent reason.

Lily pulls this off much better.

      • Murray C. July 19, 2016 / 8:27 pm

I’ve seen a fair amount of Japanese prints and I had never seen this particular feature before – how interesting. Any idea what they represent?

        • Kar July 20, 2016 / 7:49 pm

DOn’t know. I thought that they were fairly common. They were in all of my Japanese fairy tale books growing up.

I think it maybe a sign of nobility or as part of the upper class. Can recall them from some old samurai movies too.

      Lol!

  4. 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 11:36 am

When I saw the first pic, I’m like, ” Hey, that’s Lily!” She is so cute!

You crack me up, NTMTOM! I gotta admit I keep forgetting to order Amazon through this site. Sorry about that, I will try and do better!? I order enough online to keep MANY cats happy! Usually I just donate the boxes to my buns who LOVE to tear up cardboard.?

    • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 3:41 pm

Hi 6rabbits, if this helps, what I did was to change my “Amazon” bookmark so it points to NTMTOM’s portal – that way it’s just automatic.

      • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 6:34 pm

How do I do that? Do you mean you label the bookmark for NTMTOM’s site as “Amazon”? Thanks for helping!

        • Not That Mike The Other Mike July 19, 2016 / 6:54 pm

Depending upon what browser you use, you may be able to assign a preferred name to a bookmark at the time you create it. For example, I use Chrome, and this is what I do:

          • Click my Amazon link, which takes me to Amazon’s front page.
          • Then, I click the “star” icon, which starts the process of creating a bookmark.

          • Next, I see the box shown below, in which I can change the label of the bookmark, and also assign it to a folder.

Now the bookmark has the label I want. If I want to change it later, I can right-click it and select “Edit…” and there are similar methods in other browsers.

          • allein ? July 19, 2016 / 7:28 pm

You can also hit Control-D to create a new bookmark (works Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox).

          • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 7:29 pm

Just made a new bookmark–Amazon thru NTMTOM– which leads me here, and then I can go thru your portal to Amazon. Thanks!??

              • Murray C. July 19, 2016 / 8:29 pm

I find all this absolutely opaque. I guess I’ll just have to wait ’til I buy something and try to figure it out then.

                • Not That Mike The Other Mike July 19, 2016 / 8:32 pm

Not to worry, as long as you start your Amazon shopping by clicking the link in the sidebar to the right, you’ll be helping me out. Thank you.

                • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 8:36 pm

Don’t be discouraged, Murray, I learned through sheer trial and error – just noodling around and going ‘hmm, what does this do?’ 😀

                  • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 10:26 pm

Smartypants, that is the way, soon-to-patented?, I have learned nearly everything I know about computer programs and the internet. Followed by, google-it-somebody-else-must-know.?

                    • allein ? July 19, 2016 / 10:35 pm

People at work think I’m so smart because I can troubleshoot an access database. Half of what I know is from former coworkers (my old boss sat me across from one of them so I could “learn by osmosis”) and the other half is from google.

            • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 8:29 pm

Awesome! Glad that worked for you.

I use Safari – at the top you can select Bookmarks, then Add Bookmark to save the page you’re on and name it anything you want.

Or to re-name an existing one: select Bookmarks, then Show All Bookmarks and right-click on the name to edit.

          • Gigi_the cat lady July 19, 2016 / 9:07 pm

I did it for both Amazon.com that I use for Kindle and Amazon.ca that I use for paper books and other stuff.

  5. Duckie July 19, 2016 / 11:38 am

She is adorable. Purrfectly (not purge toy) placed cutie spots.
The pattern on the lino caught my eye, and I thought the markings were cat paw prints.

    • debg July 19, 2016 / 11:44 am

Heh, that would be really cute, Duckie. I once planned to paint a hallway white, then dip each of my cats in a different color of paint and walk them up the walls. It would be much easier to do this on a floor.

    • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 12:38 pm

Thought they were paw prints at first glance also!

  6. belphebe July 19, 2016 / 12:18 pm

“… or a single toothbrush” So true! I’ve received some orders from Amazon.ca that could have/should have been packaged in an envelope or in a smaller box! I finally got around to flattening all the boxes and stuffing them in my apartment buildings recycle bin. (thus showing my neighbors that if you actually flatten your boxes you can fit a lot more stuff in the bin: I had about 10-15 boxes in there and there was still room for other paper.
No pets here to benefit from the boxes. I do try to remember to use your website or another blogger’s website to click through to Amazon, but sometimes I forget.

Do you get revenue for click-throughs or for purchases? I do a lot of browsing, but not much shopping. If I know I’m going to make a purchase, I try to remember to come to your site first, but if I’m just browsing, I generally go straight to Amazon.

Regarding the pictures, Lily the Fierce and Fabulous is adorable and looks so happy with her new box. Congratulations, Lily!

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike July 19, 2016 / 1:37 pm

Thanks for thinking of me when you shop. To answer your question, I get a percentage of purchases only, not clicks.

  7. Faye July 19, 2016 / 12:31 pm

Oh my Lily knew exactly what to do with her first box. She is adorable and obviously thriving in your care. She definitely looks like a Lily. You named her well. ?

  8. Jan July 19, 2016 / 1:58 pm

Thanks, NTMTOM, I knew you’d be able to do something clever with those pictures!

In one week, Lily has gone from a scant 1.4lbs all the way up to 2.2lbs. Her energy levels have gone up by about the same proportion… if I had half her energy I’d be dangerous!

(Also, I meant to say “Thanks for helping keep me stay sane” sigh.)

    • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 3:38 pm

She is so bold! The pix are wonderful, and I love NTMTOM’s tie-in.

Those eyebrow dots are great – she could be the daughter of Scorsese Cat.

  9. dubravkamcvmd July 19, 2016 / 2:12 pm

The Pay NTMTOM’s Internet Bills Foundation ! I love it! Actually I do. I always shop through your site. I thought that if I go through your portal but also go through Amazon Smile I’m giving whatever percentage it is to the charity and not to you. Am I wrong?

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike July 19, 2016 / 2:18 pm

When you use Amazon Smile, I still get an affiliate fee, and the charity you choose gets a percentage of your purchase on top of that.

      • dubravkamcvmd July 19, 2016 / 7:42 pm

So it doesn’t take away from what you get?Oh great! Thanks.

    • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 10:19 pm

Sounds similar to my “Teacher Gets to See a Movie” collection policy, when I take away money that my fourth graders continue to play with during class AFTER being warned. (I usually don’t keep it, for anyone who’s horrified. Though, I’ve had a couple parents tell me to keep it, and sometimes the students do, too, weirdly.)?

  10. JenDeyan July 19, 2016 / 2:53 pm

She looks like the kinda kitty that doesn’t want to sit still for snorgles because she’s too busy playing. High energy kitties are hours of fun to watch but cuddle time gets limited.

    • Sedro6 July 19, 2016 / 5:53 pm

My calico was high energy as a kitten and never cuddled…. until she was 4 years old and saw another cat get quality time on my lap. I guess she is a slow learner.

    • Jan July 19, 2016 / 7:31 pm

She’s big on cuddles especially after she’s eaten (happy tummy = happy kitty) and when she’s napping. She’s purring away on my chest as we speak! But once she goes into high energy/holy terror mode… look out!

  11. Murray C. July 19, 2016 / 6:02 pm

Or a single toothbrush – isn’t that about right. It’s a case, I suppose, if it fits it ships. I buy little – on Amazon or anyplace else – but I will try to remember to direct it your way,NTM, next time and every time after that. And I WILL send another tip – but we just got hit with a $3,000 “save our tree that got messed up in the storm yesterday” bill. Sigh, if it’s not one thing it’s another.

  12. Muppet2171 July 19, 2016 / 11:50 pm

“Or a single toothbrush.” Reminds me of a time an office I worked for ordered a pack of highlighters (package of maybe 6 or 8 pens total). It came in a box that was about 3 ft. x 3 ft. x 3 ft. The delivery guy didn’t believe us when we told him what we ordered and we wondered if they sent the wrong order. But no. A single package of highlighters, and a painful amount of packing peanuts (this was the age before those air pack thingies). Pity I didn’t have a cat back then…
