Dinosaur Dreams

(The feared Tyrannosaurus Rex surveys the valleys and forests of his prehistoric neighborhood. True to his name, he is a cruel tyrant, and the hatred of his subjects both enrages and emboldens him. The kittens from next door hiss dark oaths behind his back, but one glance from him and they avert their eyes. Fear, he knows, is the only sincere form of respect.)

(He comes across the remains of a stuffed animal he brought down days before. He picks up the carcass and shakes it, but the thrill is fleeting and once again his eye seeks fresh prey. Then he sees a herd of delivery drivers in their crisp brown uniforms, drinking at a pond. Seized by lust and hunger, he charges! The drivers flee in a flocklike herd, but one becomes winded and falls behind. His blood runs cold as the tyrant king looms above him, his massive jaws blocking out the noonday sun, eternal night beckoning within. One snap, and it is over.)

I love people with a sense of humor and seeing others encouraging it! I have tears in my eyes from the giggling.
First NTMTOM’s perfect description of K9asaurus then this pure fun video. Yall are awesome!

My pup Joey has an example of this post. I find amusement, but am hesitant to share his innocent/funny/gruesome story.

      • allein July 19, 2016 / 9:39 am

My favorite part is listing his age as 64m years and his occupation as “Carnivore.”

am hesitant to share his innocent/funny/gruesome story.

Of course, you realize saying that will just make people want to hear it, right?

        • Haha July 19, 2016 / 9:42 am

I do. But will only supply the story with a majority of interest and then put a disclaimer at the beginning for the squeamish.

          • Faye July 19, 2016 / 9:53 am

Disclaimer befor exclaiming should cover it.

          • debg July 19, 2016 / 9:55 am

            I’m interested! Share! Share!

          • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 11:29 am

          • -J July 19, 2016 / 11:49 am

oh please? Would love to hear it

      • allein July 19, 2016 / 9:45 am

        Also, “K9asaurus” made me giggle.

        “Dogasaurus” would also be acceptable.

        • Faye July 19, 2016 / 9:55 am

          I Can’t handle the cute.

      • debg July 19, 2016 / 9:59 am

Words cannot express how much I love this. I love all the T-Rex costume vids, perhaps because I have stubby little arms myself.

NOMTOM, your storytelling skills are the sine qua non of delight.

        • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 11:28 am

          Ditto to NTMTOM’s genius!

Please do tell, curious minds want to know.

        • Haha July 19, 2016 / 1:51 pm

Ok. I preface this by saying, Joey is a dog and is to be held blameless for acting like a dog. I like to think of him being happy, but if you don’t like the macabre, don’t read this.
Forgive me for the spoiler, but I can’t in good conscious share knowing some would be upset.

Our backyard is in 2 sections. The inner courtyard-ish area is surrounded by bushes that keep it fairly private. The “courtyard” has a deck connected to the house with some space animals have figured out they can dig under the edges and have a cave. The outer fenced area is grass with some nice trees.
I’m out one day and see something unusual and still in the grass. I go and see that is is an adolescent/teenaged woodchuck or ground hog depending on where you are from. Of course I have to poke it with a stick before removing it. I find some fur that looks like it could have been wet. It could have been from dew, but am not sure. I can find no puncture marks or no reason for it to be dead in the middle of the yard. I dispose of it hoping it wasn’t poisoned and want to make sure Joey doesn’t get a hold of it in case of poison.
This happens 2 more times a few days apart. No facts as to why, just curious concern.
A few more days, Joey doesn’t know I have come out into the back yard. I go through the “courtyard” between the bushes to the back yard. I see Joey, in what can only be described as joyous prancing, holding another young woodchuck from his mouth. He is bouncing across the yard with the thing looking like a toy swinging side to side. I freeze for a few seconds. Joey sees me, drops the chuck (thank goodness) and bounces up to me, head held high, ears at his perkiest, with loving fun in his eyes asking what a good boy he is and if I would like to play with him. After a calming breath from me, I pat him on the head and bring him inside and leave him with a treat. I do another stick poking inspection to make sure this is the same as the other 3 and think, “Case closed.”
Joey was just having fun “playing” with them until they didn’t play anymore…
Why they didn’t leave after the first?!?!?
A few days later, I’m out working in the yard and hear screams/growling and yipping.
Joey has distinctive sounds. He has a playful bark and growl. He has the low, watery, ugly warning growl that means listen and don’t do what he is warning about. (A big scary looking man selling tree trimming services coming towards our back yard was smart to listen to this warning growl and not reach into our back yard to give me his card) and Joey has a questioning high pitched “I want to play, but am not sure” barking yip. This yip is what I was hearing from Joey.
I come around the corner to see Joey using “I want to play” body language towards mama woodchuck. Her torso is easily as big as Joey, but she is built low to the ground. She can’t get away quick enough or squeeze under the deck quick enough. I start in with my big voice for Joey’s commands of, “Joey, leave it” and “Joey, drop it.” He is confused because he wants to play, but this toy is hissing and snapping at him, and Joey’s mama is giving commands he obviously doesn’t want to follow. He gets ahold of her tail, she turns and swipes his snout, he lets go and looks at me as if to say, “What in the world is going on and I just wanted to play! Harumph!”
It is interesting that wherever Joey has a scar, his fur grows in with white around the edges. He is a black dog with brown boots. Luckily he doesn’t have too many scars and they are all small and insignificant.
I will forever have the picture of his happy playful prancing with the swinging woodchuck etched firmly in my mind.
          All’s well that ends well.
Except for the woodchucks…survival of the smartest?

          • debg July 19, 2016 / 3:04 pm

Joey did a doggy thing, and I’m glad you solved your mystery. Cats might have been even more “playful.” Mama woodchuck will have more babies, I’m sure.

            • Faye July 19, 2016 / 3:37 pm

Innocent is the operative word. If you were a farmer or cattle rancher Joey would, indeed, be a very good boy. How would Joey go about suppressing his deepest instincts? Very dino doggy.

          • Haha July 19, 2016 / 4:04 pm

Also, not the one I was looking for, but close. Poke the dead thing with a stick!

I will always love Calvin and Hobbes!

          • Kar July 19, 2016 / 5:26 pm

Now I feel the need to drink a red delicious Woodchuck.

Go Joey!! May you always be playful! And may mama be nearby when he encounters playmates who don’t want to play.

    • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 11:24 am

I loved seeing the excited and awed faces of the kids in the audience! Can’t believe guy could do all that in the dino suit!

    • Kar July 19, 2016 / 5:38 pm

I thought that those little kids were going to Spontaneously combust when the Trex made it over the water.

PS T-Rex lived in the Cretaceous, not the Jurassic.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike July 19, 2016 / 9:56 am

Ah, thanks. I just updated my post to replace “Jurassic” with “prehistoric,” which covers all the eras so I’m safe. 🙂

      • allein July 19, 2016 / 10:02 am

        That works 🙂

    • Duckie July 19, 2016 / 11:46 am

T-Rex lived wherever he wanted. ?

      • allein July 19, 2016 / 11:47 am

        lol

T-rex dreams of dancing with the Cincinnati Ballet.

    • allein July 19, 2016 / 9:28 am

I’ve seen that one. He’s pretty good!

(I’m surprised he made it as far as he did on ANW in that costume, too. I’m guessing the guy made it further when he ran it for real, but then again, you never know what might happen on that show.)

    • Haha July 19, 2016 / 9:36 am

      Yay for Cincinnati!

      • Claire July 19, 2016 / 10:56 pm

Yay for Cincinnati! It’s my wonderful home town =D

    • Kar July 19, 2016 / 5:35 pm

Where did he get a tutu that big? Did he borrow it from the Fantasia hippos?

  3. allein July 19, 2016 / 9:43 am

T-Rex dreams of moving somewhere warmer.

  4. Faye July 19, 2016 / 9:45 am

    Call Dr. Moreau!

No one is a match for baby Dinodog. The cute will get you evey time.

    • Haha July 19, 2016 / 4:08 pm

It still gives me the creeps thinking about the book with Dr. Moreau. Read it years and years ago. Eeesh

      • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 8:11 pm

Oh, now I will have to read it! I’ve been working my way thru a lot of the old horror stories, and I don’t have that one yet (love ‘Dracula,’ still can’t get into ‘Frankenstein’; ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ & ‘The Invisible Man’ are next on top of the stack).

        • Faye July 20, 2016 / 2:26 am

It’s a good one. Also The Turning Of The Screw came to mind.

        • 6rabbits July 20, 2016 / 3:16 am

I can recommend The Invisible Man. Don’t know if you’d consider it horror, but The Most Dangerous Game was creepy.
(The church-affiliated college I attended in the dark ages only had 1 turnstile of “popular/modern” fiction, and I had no transpo to the distant public library??. So in my frosh year I read a LOT of the classic literature on the 100-books-recommended-for-high-school list–cos of course the college had THOSE!?)

        • 6rabbits July 20, 2016 / 3:35 am

Ooo, ooo, ooo! ?? I forgot about The Monkey’s Paw! Still freaks me out! (Both it and Dangerous Game are short stories.)

        • Smartypants July 20, 2016 / 5:56 am

Thank you guys – great suggestions! Yes, the Monkey’s Paw is still truly creepy – that poor couple should have been more specific with their wishes!

Love all the Doggy/T-Rex stuff, I needed a good giggle being stuck with compiling answers to s survey … can you say boring?

    • allein July 19, 2016 / 10:06 am

That…actually sounds like something I wouldn’t mind doing.

      /nerd

      • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 11:26 am

Double nerd, cos I wouldn’t mind that at all either!!

      • Smartypants July 19, 2016 / 12:21 pm

(joining line to get my Nerd Card stamped) – yep, me too! 😀

          • 6rabbits July 19, 2016 / 12:35 pm

I would own sooo many pocket protectors now…

      • AJ July 19, 2016 / 2:08 pm

Sorry about being late to the party and bringing up the end of the nerd line. I’m working on updating a database – deleting the second name in select records and clicking a box marked “joint” instead so the program will print one mailing label with both names instead of two. Can we say eye-crossing time??

And oh yeah, it’s actually nerd-vana this week here in San Diego. COMIC-CON starts tomorrow!!!!! For the first time in 3 years, I won’t be volunteering but since I ride mass transit, I still get to see all the costumes. Should be interesting.

        • Faye July 19, 2016 / 3:39 pm

My housemates do big time Cosplay at NYC Comicon. Amazing.

        • Kar July 19, 2016 / 5:33 pm

Nerds still go to SDCC? “But it’s so commercial now….”

My friends get annoyed when I tell them what happened at SDCC, and they’re on site!! I went once and realized it was a weeklong commercial, and I WAS PAYING TO SEE THIS?

Heard that it’s what, a yearlong wait to even get on the volunteer list.

  6. D B July 19, 2016 / 10:11 am

This brings back fond memories of Calvin’s imaginary adventures, in Calvin and Hobbes. Very funny!

    • allein July 19, 2016 / 12:28 pm

      • 6rabbits July 20, 2016 / 3:37 am

??? Calvin and Hobbes! Have all the books, and reread frequently!?

Pupasaurus Rex .. Oh Lord .. Hide the bacon

  8. Doug July 19, 2016 / 11:03 am

Oh .. Did you all know that T-Rex’s are long distance runners ?
    Godzilla runs marathons

  9. Shan July 19, 2016 / 1:11 pm

I wish to be attacked by this Cutiesaurus!
