Why is it that we keep changing our minds about what we want to be on this website? Last week, I wanted to be a mom to a wombat. Now I want to be a penguin mom.

    • Laura July 28, 2016 / 7:01 pm

I was sitting here watching the video and whining, “*I* want to have that job, to feed fishies to baby penguins!” Honestly, it’s just not fair! Whine whine whine!

  2. debg July 28, 2016 / 11:40 am

I want to be mom to them all, Duckie. But especially a wombat.

  3. debg July 28, 2016 / 11:45 am

I believe those are stock baby ostriches, not the ones actually running loose in Scotland. They’re still adorable, though.

I think you’re right, but I couldn’t find any other pictures associated with the story, a problem I suspect The Guardian had as well.

      • 6rabbits July 28, 2016 / 6:32 pm

I wondered, since they’re asking people to report where they are, “Who took the pic?”
BTW, the words “ostrich” and “Scotland” just do not go together in my brain!?

  4. Smartypants July 28, 2016 / 11:53 am

I call Matchingks on the dog and cat!

Nice Gilbert & Sullivan hovertext on the ostriches, too.

Wud’I miss?! Wud’ I miss??! Out of town and for a couple of days and it was glorious and I stubbornly refused to check the interwebs… I almost missed the ‘Mikado’ reference which then, well of course, led me down that slippery slope of Frasier episodes so here I am. And no link for Frasier ‘three little maids’ as evidently, ‘they’ have that tighter, more locked up than the locals who apparently have ‘not lost this ostrich family’.

  5. allein July 28, 2016 / 11:56 am

“as no one in the local area appeared to have lost an ostrich.”

    Sorry, but ?

    • Gigi_the cat lady July 28, 2016 / 12:18 pm

      ?

      • allein July 28, 2016 / 12:59 pm

It’s a line from the linked article and it just struck me as hilarious.

        • Gigi_the cat lady July 28, 2016 / 1:20 pm

OK, I couldn’t decipher the emoticon (or is it emoji?) so I didn’t know what you were “sorry” about.

          • allein July 28, 2016 / 1:27 pm

Ah. It’s the laughing face from my tablet’s emoji menu.

    • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 2:25 pm

      I know, wasn’t that good???!

  6. allein July 28, 2016 / 12:08 pm

Maybe puppy thought she was looking in a mirror?

  7. Gigi_the cat lady July 28, 2016 / 12:23 pm

Kitten and puppy are both babies so they don’t know yet they are not supposed to like each others and now they never will.
I wish we could do that with people.

    • Clairdelune July 28, 2016 / 2:39 pm

Amen, Gigi. If only. These days, every time I turn on the news on TV, hostility and even hatred are like a big black cloud on so many people.

      • 6rabbits July 28, 2016 / 6:54 pm

I went to the Tube to copy Rogers and Hammerstein’s song “You’ve Got To be Carefully Taught” and insert it here, but found this AMAZING version instead. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EJQoiPCedj4

Don’t remember how to embed, sorry.

        • Gigi_the cat lady July 28, 2016 / 7:02 pm

          Here you go 6RABBITS

          • 6rabbits July 28, 2016 / 7:40 pm

            Thank you, Gigi!!!?

            • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 8:59 pm

I love this song – it was a big deal when the show South Pacific came out – musicals weren’t supposed to deal with issues. Showboat was years before and it had the famous “mysogynist” scene – but there wasn’t much in between that dealt with racial issues in particular.

  8. debg July 28, 2016 / 1:14 pm

I call matchingks on puppy and kitten. They are so adorable together.

    • Dana July 28, 2016 / 2:38 pm

      Too much cute to handle!

  9. Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 2:26 pm

I wanna see the bunny they pick out – will it, too, match??

    • Smartypants July 28, 2016 / 3:43 pm

Yep, and the next week they’ll all go back together and adopt a hammie with the same colors.

      • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 3:54 pm

        Arrrright!!!

      • 6rabbits July 28, 2016 / 6:41 pm

It’s the real-life “The Farmer in the Dell”! ?????
If we’re decreasing in size, it should be a Guinea pig next, THEN a hamster. Though finding a Piggie to match might be more difficult!
I really, REALLY love that this family let the dog pick his buddy! This will warm my heart for days!?

        • Duckie ? July 28, 2016 / 11:45 pm

6Rabbits, what is the pink blobby thing before the hammy?

          • Murray C. July 29, 2016 / 12:07 am

It’s a pig schnozzola, head on. No pig attached.

          • 6rabbits July 29, 2016 / 12:14 am

It’s a pig nose! There are THREE pig emojis but no Guinea pigs, so I used the nose to stand for GP.

    • Smartypants July 28, 2016 / 8:22 pm

By the way, if you have time to check out the full article, there are oodles more adorable photos of these two together at home.

  10. allein July 28, 2016 / 2:29 pm

There’s a farm in the next town over that raises emus. I used to drive past it on my way to my former workplace. The babies are adorable. Now wondering if they’ve ever escaped…

    • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 9:00 pm

      I wouldn’t mind seeing them! ?

      • allein ? July 28, 2016 / 9:11 pm

They also have cows. Or bulls. I don’t know. Hard to tell when you’re driving past at 50 mph. There’s only one or two and hey’re usually lying around on the grass.

        • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 10:49 pm

That is so darned cute I can’t stand it. Looks a bit like a puppet and I want one.

          • allein ? July 28, 2016 / 11:08 pm

There’s a park near where I work that has an animal enclosure. The larger enclosure has deer and geese and ducks who can roam all over, and then there are smaller enclosures within that each containing other animals – several different birds, including a pair of turkeys, a pair of peacocks, quail, and a few kinds of chicken (and if you’ve never seen baby Silkie chickens running around you really need to find some; holy moly they’re adorable), a few rabbit hutches, goats, potbelly pigs, and an emu. He’s all by himself, though; I always wonder if he’s lonely.

            • Murray C. July 29, 2016 / 12:14 am

Awww, that’s sad, poor li’l guy/gal. I’d like to skritch that sweet head – only if it were something s/he’d like.

            • Sumo-Mermaid July 29, 2016 / 9:28 am

Are they both peacocks or is one a peahen?

              • allein July 29, 2016 / 12:13 pm

                Yes, one is a hen..

  11. Smartypants July 28, 2016 / 3:57 pm

The bebeh ostriches look like “Hey Mister, you OK? What are you doing down there? Should we call an ambulance?”

    • allein ? July 28, 2016 / 9:13 pm

      • Murray C. July 28, 2016 / 10:50 pm

        Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh! Overwhelmed, breathless. I die.
