From the moment I first saw it, a fleeting dreamlike image in the corner of my eye, I knew I must have it. And oh, how it knew; taunting me from behind, evading my every attack, strengthening my resolve to be its master.Β And only now, at the end of my quest, do I see the folly in my life’s pursuit: To be the master is to be the slave.

Mike, you are just ON FIRE today. I’m helpless from laughing at the last few posts.
That is one helluva yoga, or doga pose.
I CAUGHT IT!! …Now what?
Does anyone else see a face in the lower left?
Something sinister going on! (And the dog’s name is Dexter?????)
Didn’t anybody get my joke? Or was it too dumb???? ?
I hope the tail fits Dexter’s code. Like, maybe it’s a tail that habitually whacks people in the eye, and so it deserves to be caught and bitten.
Marching Roman army in Life of Brian, “Sinister, Dexter, Sinister, Dexter….”
oh, well.
Sorry, Murray.
Like other people, when I hear Dexter, I think of the TV show. Although I did think of dexterous as well, considering the doggy managed to catch its tail. I didn’t make the sinister/dexter connection until reading this comment of yours.
No apology needed! If I have to explain it I guess it wasn’t a very good jokeβΊοΈ
I didn’t know about a TV show called Dexter!
This is a great place because you can put something out there and see if anyone responds and you don’t feel bad if it doesn’t go over.
Murray C., the show Dexter is about a serial killer, and even tho I don’t watch, that aspect hijacked my brain, and also seemed approriate with sinister, but I didn’t get the joke–which happens often enuff! It wasn’t til rereading it this morning that it hit me! Sheesh, and I actually studied Latin for two years! Better late than never, right?
I for one lol’d.
THANKYOU, EZ Reader!?
I got it, Dexter, brilliant but perhaps a tad subtle, unless one is acquainted with the Latin language. π
I know – but this gang knows movies inside out so I thought maybe they might remember that tidbit from The Life of Brian. I’ve never even seen the movie but my husband refers to that scene and it always made me laugh. I realize I flogged it, but it was just in fun.?
OK, yes, glad it’s not just me. It’s like some sort of evil Jawa-mummy!
(Awesome pup, though.)
Yes, I see a Jawa! ?
Weird/cool how the brain always looks for a recognizable pattern.
I agree 6Rabbits. Here is the wiki link on it-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia
Yikes!!!
And my tail hurts. π
I remember that line. I can’t remember which post it was.

Classic NTMTOM!
I loved/love that post… π
Thank you! I knew someone would come through.
I sorta remembered it was a big cat shortly before I saw your link, but I would not have been able to find it.
You’re very welcome. I’m a librarian, so I can’t resist the urge to track down obscure information on the interwebs. π
I do the same thing (not a librarian but I do work in books). Cute Overload is blocked at work, though, so I wouldn’t have been able to search for it even if I had time earlier.
Faye is a Librarian, too – retired, but as I’ve said before, you can take the Girl out of the Library but you can’t take the Library out of the Girl!
Another library worker here.
Still one of my favorite NTMTOM posts!
Same here!
(Even though I did mess up the quote.)
It’s a dog eat dog world in Cutetropolis.
WIN!
Someone’s gonna need a chiropractor.
?
I need one just looking at this picture.
I laughed so hard over this photo that my husband came over from the other side of the house to make sure I wasn’t having a heart attack or something — I was laughing so hard I was coughing from nearly having an asthma attack! I always consider that a particularly successful job on your part, NTMTOM, when you make me laugh that hard. π (And he laughed nearly as hard when he saw that hilarious photo!)
Did this start with, “Wait. Hold my beer.”?
π
The noise I just made was aggressively rude, but full of mirth. I think I hurt my laugh. I KNOW I hurt my snort.
Can you put a plaster on it????
Oh geez, this is black humour… but anyone out there know about the Pompeii dog? I saw this poor thing’s cast as a little kid with my family when we visited Italy and was kinda emotionally scarred about it. So, since then I have been making jokes to deal with my poor broken 6 year old psyche… π π Anybody still here? Well, maybe I can reconcile by imagining Pompeii dog was going for the ‘ultimate win’ before he choked in his last breath!!! π π
Just looked it up! Woah!
I did, too. I’ve seen the human casts lots of times in documentaries and in magazines, but I had never seen the dog! I can see why. Six year old might be traumatized by that! It’s haunting.
I think it is so haunting as the human casts are almost ‘sleeping shrouds’ whereas the dog is certainly not.
I went to the Pompeii exhibit at the Franklin Institute a couple years ago. I don’t think they had the dog, though. Pretty sure I would have remembered that.
Ya, the exhibit was up here in Toronto too and I purposely looked to see if they brought the dog–no. I think it would be really disturbing to our culture these days so it was not included.
We were in Pompeii mid-70’s. If I recall correctly, the dog had a leash around it’s neck and was found outside what would be considered the ‘local convenience store’ of the time. So, the poor pup was tied up and couldn’t escape, hence it’s position.
π
Why do I see the ancient world map in the dog’s patches?
Look! I can see Gaius Julius Caesar’s villa from here!
I TOLD you the dog’s name was Dexter.?
π I can’t see the joke the first time you told it. It is quite funny!
