    Dominique Paws! Ha!

The thing I read last night said there was gymnastics on this afternoon, but according to the info box on my tv screen, they’re not showing it until tonight. Which works for me. (Men’s today, women’s tomorrow, I think.) Right now I have swimming on mute and while music plays on my computer.

Between gymnastics and tennis, Kittylympics seems a tad…gory…

Yes…they look too cute for that!

I’m watching men’s gymnastics right now. Men’s floor is kinda boring…why don’t they get music and have to dance in between tumbling (seems a little sexist, doesn’t it?)?

I doubt they’ll show it, but one of the French guys broke his leg on the vault. 🙁

I just made the mistake of googling that, btw. I don’t recommend it. Ouch.

and of course I had to google it… I had texted my sister earlier this aft while watching the men’s gymnastics exclaiming I knew I was getting old as I was fretting that they may hurt themselves… I was told once– could be absolutely incorrect but leg breaks like that, massive sudden breaks indicate steroid use. Regardless, just awful.
Besides that, the men’s bike road race was intense and the woman’s rugby is hardcore cool!
Swimming now! 😀 Come on Penny Oleksiak! Go girl, go!

The article I read said something like “his leg snapped the wrong way” and the one comment on it said “is there a right way to snap your leg?”

😀 Seriously though, poor kid; it must have been so painful and scary for him.
I am just about counting sleeps to see Simone Biles. 🙂 🙂 and Penny just qualified for finals tomorrow. Way to go young woman!

It was not pretty. I couldn’t hear sound on the video, but they said on the news that they could hear the snap through the stadium. All I could see was a leg that wasn’t supposed to bend like that. ?

:S There was a favoured Aussie on the road bike race who near the end broke his collar bone; our heart goes out to them and the anguish.. Really intense stuff this Olympic competition! But so much great, inspiring, awesome stuff too.

Ouch. I saw some of the racing earlier and saw someone sitting on the road and a bike lying on its side, but I didn’t know what was happening.

There were several crashes in the bike race, all on the downhills. They were going at truly *insane* speeds, however; it’s more surprising that there were so *few* crashes. I didn’t hear that any of the riders had broken a bone. That’s such a shame.

And I made the mistake of looking at the pictures of the French gymnast with the broken leg, too. Not for the faint of heart! I remember that many years ago there was a Japanese gymnast who broke his leg, but insisted on doing his still rings routine to help his team. And then he did his dismount onto his broken leg. Needless to stay, that one is frequently retold as an example of the Olympic spirit. I happen to think it’s insane, but that’s just me…..

I’ll be rooting for Laurie Hernandez…she’s from Old Bridge, NJ, where I lived for four years.

The young woman who’s a swimmer from Syria on the refugee team also won her heat! She didn’t advance, but nevertheless, that was just wonderful. Her story is just amazing. The boat they were on in the Aegean, badly overloaded, as they usually are, was having trouble, so knowing some people couldn’t swim if it did sink, she and her sister and one other swimmer got out and for 2-3 hours pushed the boat until they arrived at the Greek island of Lesbos. Talk about a heroic act! Getting to the Olympics is just kind of an afterthought after that, I would think.

I will keep an eye out for Laurie and root too Allein! and I saw that Laura about the Syrian girl– astounding such bravery.
I am watching on and off all day. 🙂

I watched this instead of the Opening Ceremonies. It was very entertaining and extremely cute. I think Animal Planet will do a Puppy Summer Games but I’m not sure…

Wwwooooooooooooooooooo Canadian Men’s Volleyball just won!!!!!!! *upset to the States?!!* Holy smokes!
And women’s rugby rallied and came back to beat France; now going on to semi-finals against Austrailia!

    • allein ? August 7, 2016 / 7:38 pm

I watched the women’s cycling earlier. USA was out in front and the three people chasing her passed her in the last 1000 meters. 🙁

Also a Dutch rider (who was in front) crashed and apparently wound up with three cracks in her spine and a concussion. 🙁 🙁 One of her teammates won the gold, though.

      • fkaWaldenPond August 7, 2016 / 8:40 pm

Oh my goodness, I saw the Dutch rider but missed the ending. 🙁 🙁 The ending is so interesting–after all that grueling background then suddenly the ‘survivors’ basically come down to a psychological sprint. I am sorry about the USA member, that would be heart-breaking, but heck, she made it to the end of the race unscathed!

At the rate these games are going, we will need to rename them to
“2016 Ouch Games” .. legs, crashes

    Now back to KITTENS !!
