How Do You Do, Fellow Cats?

“So what are you cats talking about? Cat stuff, am I right? I also enjoy cat-related topics because I am a cat as well. Say, how about that litter box? It sure is littered, wouldn’t you agree? And don’t get me started on hairballs! You know I hate them.”

I’m a bit skeptical, Andrew Y. — I don’t think he hates hairballs that much.

For some reason I was able to watch the video at work (they usually get blocked), but there is no sound, so I will assume this bird is speaking in Steve Buscemi’s voice.

    • 6rabbits August 10, 2016 / 9:10 am

      He’s actually meow-ing, thus the kitty confusion.πŸ˜„

      • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 9:12 am

I’ll have to watch on my tablet later when I can listen. (It was about to die when I got to work so it’s charging.)

      • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 9:24 am

Okay, just watched now that my tablet’s been plugged in for a little bit. Too funny. I like how he starts sounding a tad uncertain…like he’s maybe questioning this little plan just a bit.

Also, this seems appropriate here on an interspecies post. If I can’t be a bunny, I will settle for joining a family of cats for the day (my response to everyone who’s said “good morning” to me so far: “that’s debateable”).

    • 6rabbits August 10, 2016 / 9:18 am

Oh, Allein, THANK YOU for this! I’m gonna print it and tape it to my desk on the appropriate days!☺️
As for your response to colleagues: I have an obnoxious alarm clock, to make sure I get up, and when I turn it off it says a overly chipper “Good Morning!” To which I nearly always reply, “No, it’s not!” I am so NOT a morning person!😝

      • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 9:29 am

I am so not a morning person, plus I stayed up until midnight watching the women’s gymnastics, then I came out to the kitchen at 7:20 this morning planning to toss some strawberries in a bag and leave, only to find my freezer door wide open. I cleaned up the worst of the dripping fudge bars (that I just bought over the weekend and have eaten exactly one of), tossed everything that was dripping anything other than water into the (thankfully empty) plastic dish pan, shoved the whole thing back in the freezer, made sure it was closed, and left for work. Only to find as I was getting in the car that I dripped stuff on my shirt. At least I’m wearing black today.

        Not happy.

My only consolation is today is trash day, which means the trash cans will be empty when I throw it all out.

        • debg August 10, 2016 / 9:46 am

Allein, I’m sorry for your tragic day. Some days just go like that, don’t they?

        • Birdcage August 10, 2016 / 10:50 am

          Oh no …… sympathies!

        • Laura August 10, 2016 / 4:59 pm

Allein, do you have homeowners or renters insurance? It will often cover food spoiled when a freezer malfunctions. Which, if the door won’t close properly, sounds like a malfunction to me! That must be an awful feeling, to find everything melted like that.

If the door isn’t staying shut, a trick that I learned from my husband, who spent many years living in the Western Pacific and coping with typhoons and lengthy electric outages as a result: Take milk jugs and fill them almost all the way up with water and freeze them. Place them in several spots in your freezer. That will help keep things cold longer. It really works — we had a 3-day power outage once, and lost not a single thing from our freezer even though it sat on our outdoor porch in Louisiana!

          • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 5:06 pm

I’m pretty sure it was just a little overstuffed. :-/

            • 6rabbits August 10, 2016 / 8:12 pm

Losing the fudge bars after eating only one is adding insult to injury! I can totally empathize as it happened to me after I bought a new frig. Lost almost all frozen food and I had just been shopping. No huge drippy mess, but still…😩 Turned out the delivery guy hadn’t leveled it correctly and if I didn’t smack the door hard enough it stayed open. My dad releveled it and all was right with the world.😊

              • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 8:18 pm

Not just fudge bars..two boxes of fruit bars (lemon and peach) that weren’t opened (at least I got them on sale?). In a little bit we’ll see what gelato looks like after refreezing…

I think the frozen fruit is probably okay…it just goes into the blender anyway or gets cooked for mixing in yogurt.

                I don’t think I’ll risk the chicken.

                • Faye August 10, 2016 / 11:58 pm

Never ever risk the chicken. (The Chicken says thank you.)

                • allein 🌼 August 11, 2016 / 7:18 am

One of the chicken packages was from 2012. I don’t think it really defrosted since it was buried at the back, but…

                    • allein 🐾 August 11, 2016 / 9:42 am

Yeah, no indeed. All I have left is the frozen fruit (brick o’ blueberries, anyone?), a few packages of vegetables that were far enough back to not defrost too much, and the gelato that I didn’t open. I kept it more because I want to see how it compares to regular ice cream after refreezing. For science, of course. πŸ˜‰ And most of a tray of ice cubes (never have I been more thankful that my ice maker doesn’t actually make ice or I’d have wound up with a bucket of water.

On the other hand, I got rid of all the old stuff that was probably not going to be particularly edible anyway. And I pulled out the door shelves to clean them so now they’re in my sink.

Here’s my contribution to interspecies change ups and it expresses my feelings about today. I feel exactly like you do, really didn’t want to get up this morning but with no yard, the dog doesn’t walk himself. Plus got several projects at work I should be doing. Arghh, time to get motivated.

      • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 12:40 pm

I wouldn’t necessarily object to spending the day in a tree (I’ll bring a book) except it’s supposed to storm this afternoon.

      • Murray C. August 10, 2016 / 1:34 pm

        AJ, this is fabulous.

    • AJ August 10, 2016 / 12:41 pm

And for all those in Cutetropolis with no motiviation because you stayed up too late watching the Olympics:

  3. Birdcage August 10, 2016 / 9:16 am

My day: utterly MADE by this video. Thank you, Denizens of Cutetropolis – I feel like I’m among my people here.

I thought of this, this morning as yelly, flappy-lips announced that the sun was coming up in about half an hour. πŸ˜€

        • allein 🐾 August 11, 2016 / 9:27 am

He wouldn’t want you to miss the beautiful sunrise!

Speaking of us denizens, and what to call ourselves, I was at The Cute Project, cos of yesterday’s post, and their members are called “cuteizens”. Since the site is apparently no longer active😟, maybe we could steal that term? Hmmmm? Just a thought…😌

        • debg August 10, 2016 / 9:48 am

          I like Cuteropolitans.

Mike, it didn’t occur to me when you mentioned the new site name way back when, but a polis in the ancient Greek world was a city-state–a small state unto itself as opposed to a city within a larger kingdom. The Olympics offered a less-violent way for these poleis to interact. Maybe there need to be Cutelympics across various cute sites.

          • Not That Mike The Other Mike August 10, 2016 / 1:40 pm

Hmmm… Another idea along those lines would be to have a “March Madness” bracket-style competition between cute animals pictures on this site. Two pictures would to head to head and readers would vote on the cutest, with the winner advancing.

The blog The Consumerist does this with its annual “Worst Company” competition, and the Disney Parks pit their east coast vs. west coast attractions each year, with each attraction getting a team name and logo.

This is astonishing. The parrot is not just perfectly imitating cat meows. It understands what they mean when they speak – the parrot hissed at a cat that seemed to be attacking it.

  5. Shan August 10, 2016 / 9:35 am

LOL! The look on the cat’s faces. Priceless!

    • debg August 10, 2016 / 9:49 am

That was amazing. I bet the kittens ran to tell their mommy about this weird new guy in playgroup.

  6. Gigi the cat lady August 10, 2016 / 10:56 am

Thanks I needed a laugh today. My cat Boo had some teeth pulled Monday, that evening he was fine. Yesterday he ate almost nothing and again this morning he licked at his food (canned diluted with water) but didn’t really eat. So it’s syringe feeding time πŸ˜’
    Wish me luck guys.

At least, Penny who had teeth pulled a day after Boo ate normally this morning.

    • Smartypants August 10, 2016 / 11:06 am

Oh, that’s scary when it takes them a long time to bounce back. Good luck! Boo, hope you feel better soon!

(afterthought – could there be an infection where one of his teeth was pulled?)

    • debg August 10, 2016 / 11:37 am

Gigi, I’ve got some chain mail you can borrow. Good luck to you all.

    • 6rabbits August 10, 2016 / 8:25 pm

Gigi, have you ever tried baby food? I catsit an elderly cat with MANY physical problems, and it affects his appetite. So his owner uses baby food, diluted with water til it’s more fluid, because he could lap it up instead of chewing. It worked to get his appetite started and she still gives it 2x a day, along with cat food. I told a friend about it when her elderly cat wasn’t eating after surgery and it worked for him, too. (She would also dab a bit of cat food on the cat’s nose and he’d lick it off–long process but it worked to get food into him.) Might be worth a try before resorting to syringe! Good luck!

      • allein 🐾 August 10, 2016 / 8:41 pm

Pablo got sick once and wouldn’t eat, and the vet suggested baby food (he liked chicken and beef). He lost a whole pound, which is a lot when you only started out at 6. Then later when he started having seizures we gave it to him again, because his usual food was just too much work for him sometimes.

    • Sandra August 11, 2016 / 8:29 am

Hope Boo is better soon πŸ™‚ Mine had teeth pulled last year. He was well and bouncy the next day, but his sister took it harder. She would not eat and in the end I took her favorite snack and squashed it mixed with water. That’s when she finally started eating again. …oh and the antibiotics helped with the infection the poor thing actually got after the teeth pulling.
Sending you many many good wishes (and strong nerves). Hope all is well soon! πŸ™‚
