Love the guinea pig rental and the cat story and the hover text is perfect.

Not a fan of the furry critters with butterfly wings, it just does not look right ecstatically to me, not sure if it is the colours or the size that bothers me. But anyway, that just my opinion, others may not agree. You know what they say; you cannot argue taste or colours.

Perhaps they’d be cuter with fantasy-style fairy wings, rather than realistic butterfly wings.

      • Smartypants August 29, 2016 / 2:48 pm

Yes, maybe it’s the “uncanny valley” phenomenon, where it’s close to realistic but just feels somehow – wrong – like a lot of early CGI movie characters.

This one doesn’t bother me – to me it’s v. cute and well executed – but I know the feeling (like the new generation of “Chipmunks” cartoon characters – they’re not quite chipmunks and not quite boys – yikes!).

I think the issue with the butterfly wings is because, like angel wings, there is no underlying structure to support them anatomically. Even in a silly portrayal such as this, for it to really work, the infrastructure needs to be based in reality, since the style of drawing is hyper realistic.

I like the mice with the butterfly wings. To me, it’s a cute mashup of two adorable creatures. I’m also rather in awe of the skill with which they’re painted — the detail is really remarkable.

The guinea pig story is lovely, although I do have to wonder why it didn’t occur to the Swiss authorities who put the two pig requirement into place that one might die first, leaving the other one a single. If this lady hadn’t come up with her rental idea, what were they to do? Give the pig away to someone else with a single, or worse yet (something I never, EVER would consider), euthanize the perfectly healthy pig? Seriously, that’s a stupid, stupid law without adequate consideration for the consequences!

You make a good point. The law should have been written to apply prospectively, maybe by requiring that guinea pigs be acquired in pairs.Sigh. I’m a retired lawyer and this is the type of issue I would have liked to have dealt with.

Ahhh, but how would lawyers make any money if politicians wrote clear laws? When I lived in Kansas, I served on a jury in a DUI case where a new law hadn’t been written clearly and the accused man got off on a technicality. A year later, my then-boyfriend served on a jury dealing with the rewrite of the new law. (Hopefully not the same accused criminal!)

Switzerland must be a nice place to live. And I love the deer’s courtesy!

OMG I love Felix the cat so much! I once had a darling dilute calico named Felix Felicis (also a girl).

And that deer is fantastic. I always loved having Asian students who bowed and wished all students treated their teachers with such respect.

He was a giant in the comedy world, I’ve seen it so often that I can recite most of Young Frankenstein by heart. And I cannot not watch Willy Wonka every times it plays on TV.

Young Frankenstein… ‘Oh, you are enjoying the soup?’

      🙁

I got home late and caught the very tail end of the news where they were playing a clip from Willy Wonka, and I said (out loud to no one), “Don’t tell me he died!”

I only found out a few hours ago! I also hadn’t realized he suffered from dementia.?

The darker brown Guinea pig has an absolutely adorable mouf. It almost looks like it’s smiling.
And I’m not sure what that deer is eating there, but its tummy looks like it’s had quite a few of them.

Wow, Mike’s quick! I heard about the Peeg Matchmaker on my way to work this morning, googled it and sent him the article at 9:55, and the email notification for this post came at 12:28! Didn’t bother to look at it until I got home (which was just before 8:00 ?) because I was so busy. First Monday of the fiscal month, with one less person in the department, SUCKS!

    • Smartypants August 29, 2016 / 9:16 pm

Ugh, sounds exhausting! Well, put your feet up and relax, we’ve made a pitcher of cute-a-ritas.

I just have to get through tomorrow and then I’m off until after Labor Day. And my coworker said something about donuts on Tuesday of closing week to make up for the fact that we wind up staying late on Monday. (That or buying us dinner on Monday, but frankly I’d rather just get the work done and get out rather than take time to eat.)

I’ve recently discovered Sipp soda and when I got home I had a Mojo Berry (blackberry, mint & lime). It’s not bad, but I like the Ginger Blossom better (ginger, vanilla, & lime) better. I also have Lemon Flower (lemon, elderflower & tarragon) but I haven’t tried that yet. Now I just need to track down the Zesty Orange (Blood orange, lime & jalapeno) and Summer Pear (pear, green tea & honey). Not sure I’ll like those two (not a big fan of green tea or spicy) but I’m kind of intrigued.

Next I’ll have to try some of their mixed drink recipes. (Actually the only one on their site that really appeals to me is the Ginger Blossom with vodka and lime juice. I have the vodka…)
