What kind of birdie is this? He looks like he has two sets of eyes.

I like how he color-coordinates with the wallpaper.

Looks like a budgie or common parakeet. Not the there is anything common about this little beauty!

I thought that was a nice touch. What lengths to which some people will go to decorate the domicile ?

Now the question remains: Which came first? The birdie or the wallpaper?

This is why I need a gray Chihuahua…to go with my couch. Or I could get tan to match the living room and bedroom walls. Or white to go with the baseboards. Or I could dye a white one blue to match the kitchen. (No, I wouldn’t actually do that.)

As the mom of a Maltese who blends in with all the white furnishings in my home, I recommend against this. I’ve nearly sat on Ricky way too many times. I really wonder what I was thinking when I got those rugs and seat covers.

Okay, white to match the baseboards it is. I don’t sit on them. 😉

Black pets are particularly fun at night, especially when they position themselves perfectly to be tripped over. They’re highly visible in the daytime since we have off-white tile floors, but at night? Total menace, especially Sebastian, who likes to lie across open doorways!

That’s why I shuffle around at night. My cat has white on her but not at the tip of her tail, the stepping on of which has elicited some mreowish backlash.

I see you! Somebody’s human likes blue!

    Who’s a pretty bird!

  5. Gigi the cat lady September 9, 2016 / 9:30 am

What a beautiful blue budgie! I’d love to play peek a boo with him all day.

David Tennant narrated a nature special with segments on budgies in their natural habitat:

I would listen to David Tennant read the phone book.

Am I showing my age? Do actual paper phone books still exist?

      • allein ? September 9, 2016 / 10:32 am

Yes. I got a new one a couple months ago, despite the fact that I went to the website a couple years ago to tell them not to send me one anymore. It went straight into the recycling bin.

      • Faye September 9, 2016 / 10:46 am

Big brouhaha at the Reference Desk when we stopped getting all the paper phone books. Cost the Library hundreds of dollars to duplicate what was on Internet for free.
Library patrons were not happy even when we told them we would look up any phone number or merchant, Doctor info for them. But on the other hand they don’t want the Library budget to increase. So much duplication between print that cost money and Internet sitting right there 24/7.

So true! I get all my library books online now and carry a collection of my current check outs on my phone at all times. We live in a true age of miracles! I can’t wait for the day when I have to tell kids what paper was and they give me that wonderful “people-sure-were-weird-back-then” look!

NOO-O-O-O-O As an artist I protest! There is nothing like picking up a book, especially one with thick creamy pages with beautiful typography ( preferably letterpress?) lovely illustrations. Or a well-worn paperback with marginalia – yours or the previous owners – NOT a library book, mind! Information is one thing – all well and good – but books are friends.

My library has a separate section near the young adult books for ‘classics’ (a lot of school summer-reading-type stuff is in there). I got a book once that had a bunch of post-it notes scattered throughout with notes obviously written by a teenage girl. I moved them out of the way as I read and then put them back so the next student who checked that book out for school might benefit from the notes. And was glad that she didn’t write in the book itself.

Gigi, I’m with you. He’s one of my all-time faves.

      • Murray C. September 9, 2016 / 4:41 pm

GiGi, maybe he could read an apple update agreement?

        • Gigi the cat lady September 9, 2016 / 8:18 pm

          ?

    • Murray C. September 9, 2016 / 11:37 am

      Ooh, a murmuration of budgies!!!

    • 6rabbits September 9, 2016 / 6:34 pm

Love David Tennant, but the flocking of the birds fascinated me! It’s almost mesmerizing!

      • Murray C. September 9, 2016 / 8:39 pm

A see above – that’s a ” murmuration”, when birds flock in that precision sort of way.?

Extra laugh as I didn’t see the play on words at first!
Scroll down, “Awww how cute and fun.”
    Scroll back up, “Snort-laugh!”

Bird fact of the day: This budgie is a boy. You can tell because of the dark bright blue “cere” (the nostril-esque patch of skin right above the beak).

    • Gigi the cat lady September 9, 2016 / 11:21 am

Thanks Birdcage, I love to learn fun facts like that.

  9. Duckie ? September 9, 2016 / 11:32 am

Can you imagine how much fun a bird like that would have destroying a full roll of toilet paper!??

    • hilz September 9, 2016 / 2:50 pm

Hence, the clever cover!! I need one of those to deter my cats, my TP lives in a basket cause I don’t trust those little hooligans…

  10. Jeannine September 9, 2016 / 12:43 pm

What I want to know is did someone knit a cozy TP hammock for the little bird to hang in, which matches the wall paper just so? I imagine they both take tea at 4 and watch “The Beeb” regularly every night.
