Who’s Training Who?

First, a quick shout-out to Nora for her support. Thank you. Now, if you’ve heard of Pavlov’s experiments, this submission from Andrew Y. should ring a bell. A Twitter user in Japan taught a cat to ring for a treat. At first, the cat’s little brother just sat there and watched…

…but within a week, he had figured out the trick as well, and now the two are seasoned bell-ringing snacksters. Hope you didn’t have any dinner plans, cat owner, because you’re a full-time waiter now!

Clever kitties! I apparently require no bell, and yet I still deliver cat treats to my boys on demand…hmmmm…

Animals are smart and they can learn.

I love the little black and white’s technique. While the larger kitty mostly smacks the bell just once, b&w has a jaunty, 2-tap, “ding-ding” summons. Obviously ready to travel the world and stay in the finest hotels.

Love the imagery here. Thank you for the mental picture you painted of kitty’s activities. 🙂

I felt sorry for the little black and white cat. He didn’t know what to do and got only two treats when he rang the bell by accident while the other one kept getting treats after treats while he was ignored by the human. ?

He seemed to know he needed to touch the shiny thing to get a treat, but not quite grasping where he needed to hit it.

“How come it makes noise when he hits it but not when I hit it?!?”

But by the second video it was all fine and dandy. Patient hoomin, keeping the process going for a week – I’d have assumed it would take a lot less time.

I would NEVER teach my dogs to do this. I believe they are both smart enough to learn, but dear god, the incessant dinging….

Solution: REMOVE THE BELL!!! We have bells on our doorknobs and our cat rings them to go outside.?

I was thinking of training my first dog to do the same thing but I also had a parrot at the same time who was dead-on mimic of various sounds. Since I was working from home at the time, I had visions of the bird making the sound and I’d either be up, down, up, down all day or figuring it’s the damn bird making the noise and poor puppy would be messing in the house. Lose/lose any which way so nope, no bells on the door for me.

True story on the bird. This was back when we had Nextel phones with the direct connect button. So hubby is sleeping in the bedroom and the bird so perfectly imitated the phone’s deet deet sound that he woke up from a sound sleep to check on his phone thinking someone was trying to get in touch with him, too funny.

This is how feline world domination begins, people. I for one welcome our new feline overlords.

Yes as I mentioned in the Pawz post, I’ve been sensing a theme here all day. Hey Mike, was this deliberate?? Or was it just a big conspiracy, no no no I mean CO-INCIDENCE that most of the posts related to cats seeming to take over the world??
