I am officially on vacation! Who wants margaritas?!
AJSeptember 24, 2016 / 9:53 am
whoo hoo, vacation, YEAH!!!! And yes bartender, I will take one of those puparitas. Have fun wherever and whatever you do. I’ll be heading on vacation in less than 2 months. Can. Not. Wait.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 9:57 am
Tomorrow I’m having dinner with some friends (not sure yet how many…), plus my parents leave for Tennessee tomorrow and I’ll be keeping the cats alive. Next Saturday is my birthday and no one will be around but I should see my best friend the day after (they are getting home from their own trip on Saturday night).
Murray C.September 24, 2016 / 10:37 am
Drink to me only with thine …. PUPPIES????

Yeah, about that…you, um, might not want to drink any liquid left behind in the glass…

What beautiful sapphire eyes!
Today a friend and I are going to the movie “Sully” and then out for dinner.
Called my dad yesterday to wish him a happy 93rd birthday! He sounded good and his wife had a small party planned for him in the evening. (They are still in their own home.) My 4 siblings and I are going for a visit in October.
Happy weekend to all of you!
AJSeptember 24, 2016 / 10:16 am
Congrats on your dad’s 93rd! How wonderful that him and his wife are still in their own home. Enjoy the movie, I might have to go see it as everyone has been giving it rave reviews.
amylizSeptember 24, 2016 / 11:45 am
Actually we “kids” are (gently) encouraging them to move back closer to all of us. My brother has checked out some very nice retirement communities in his city that have the option of going into assisted living. Dad is for it but his wife is dragging her feet. Sure would be nice to have him an hour away instead of seven!
FayeSeptember 24, 2016 / 12:22 pm
Tell them better to do it according to a plan rather than in or after an emergency.
Been there done that. It sucks for them and all of you kids.
amylizSeptember 24, 2016 / 1:22 pm
Yes, exactly. Wish us luck in making headway in the situation!
With him around, it will be nothing BUT a good weekend. I might never leave the house, I would just snorgle with him all day. Those eyes are just hypnotic.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 10:28 am
I wonder who would win a staring contest, Teigen or starry-eyed kitty*…

Allen, your secret is revealed! The Daily Puppy- you are clever.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 10:47 am
There are a handful of sites I go to every day. Retail comic strip, The Daily Puppy, B&N’s NOOK Daily Find, Mike Bookseller comic strip (M-W-F), and the Astronomy Picture of the Day. On Fridays I check the NOOK Free Friday selection (which is usually not anything I would ever read but I still look), and on Sundays there’s also PostSecret, Cakewrecks Sunday Sweets, and the Target sale ad.
N. FritzSeptember 24, 2016 / 1:18 pm
Don’t give me more sites to peruse, Allein! I am a Pleated-Jeans fan, Bored Panda, Not always Hopeless, plus Berkeley Breathed’s Bloom County (grew up in Iowa City where Breathed got his start. The Bloom County Boarding House is still there). I also love Post Secret and Cake Wrecks on Sundays!!! The bf arrived last night and we’ve already been for a long 10k hike, plus shopping, plus yard work, plus cooking together. Did I mention I seem to have Fridays as my day off????!!!!!
N. FritzSeptember 24, 2016 / 1:29 pm

I just found a wonderful new whole set of podcasts today — there’s a site called Radiotropia that has a number of interesting podcasts. I’ve been listening to Radio Diaries for a couple of years, but today I discovered there’s also one called Mortified, in which people — before a live audience — read completely unedited writings from their childhood, which are totally hilarious, and then there’s also one devoted to one of my all-time favorite TV shows, The West Wing! So I’m off to rewatch the pilot of TWW so I can properly enjoy the podcast. What is important, after all? 🙂
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 10:51 pm
Radiotopia has some good stuff. 99% Invisible and The Memory Palace are my favorites. I also listen to The Allusionist and Radio Diaries.
I like the BBC’s Why Factor, and The Infinite Monkey Cage (if you like sciency stuff), too. (I have a whole list of others that I listen to, also.)

I love this kitty’s eyes. I’ve always had a soft spot for siamese cats and would love to own one, no matter what people say about how aloof and tempermental they can be. This lovely kitty reminds me of Duchess from The Aristocats cartoon.
But thank goodness it’s the WEEKEND!!!!!! It has been a crazy week on this end. Thanks everyone for the good wishes for my mom. All those thoughts must have helped; yes she had a mild stroke but she’s now out of hospital and in a rehab facility for some speech and physical therapy to help her get back some functionality. After that it’s just a matter of seeing how far she progresses and what the doctors recommend – either ok to go back to living on her own or I have a feeling, she’ll be moving into assisted living.
Work was really busy this week, including prepping for our annual mass mailing. It goes to several hundred people and involves multiple pages. Thursday we started sorting and collating the packages and we were planning to finish up on Friday.
Well, all good plans got blown out of the water literally on Friday morning at 6:30 am. Went into our garage (which I usually don’t do during the week since I don’t drive the car and hubby’s work truck is parked on the street) and what do I see but a big puddle, and getting bigger. Yes folks, the water heater had died. Good news is I’m a renter and all I had to do was call the property management company to get it fixed. But talk about an all day affair! I actually texted a picture of the mess to my boss so she wouldn’t think I was trying to pull a fast one to get out of helping with the mailing, lol.
At least I had something to look forward to. After doing a few errands today, tonight we’ll be meeting up with another couple. Doing dinner and going to a musical production of “The Adams Family” at an outdoor theater here. I love SoCal, end of Sept and you can still sit outside without being too chilly.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Whoever told you Siamese cats are aloof!? They love people and demand plenty of attention. I know because I grew up with them as pets.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 11:01 am
Yeah, I never heard that. I’ve just heard they’re…loquacious…
Elaine C WilliamsonSeptember 24, 2016 / 12:07 pm
Very loquacious. They rarely stop talking when awake.
FayeSeptember 24, 2016 / 12:25 pm
I love cats who talk. Hmmm next kitty possibilities.
LauraSeptember 24, 2016 / 3:01 pm
Me, too. I grew up with Siamese, plus have had a couple of my own, and they’re like most cats — only aloof if you expect them to be, but sweet and loving if you treat them the way they deserve to be treated. ? The kitty I grew up with lived to be nearly 23, and had the whole family trained to fulfill her every wish. I still miss her!
AJSeptember 24, 2016 / 4:45 pm
I guess I got the impression that they were aloof from another Disney movie, The Lady and The Tramp. Good to hear that I was wrong. I know they can be talkers as one cat I had must have been part Siamese as he talked all day long.
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 7:32 pm
AJ your post got superseded by Siamese cats – understandable, but I wanted to be sure you were acknowledged.? That’s great about your Mom. Fie on the water heater, I hope your mailing goes out in good time and that you can actually relax and enjoy yourselves at the play tonight! Sounds really fun. Oops – Just realized this was last night – hope you enjoyed your evening!

Cleaning house this weekend–including some final kitchen thingies–in preparation for my dad’s visit next weekend. And looking for George Weasleycat. Wish me luck.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 10:25 am
Good luck!
My mom told me if Stripes escapes while I’m babysitting I should just let him go. (“He’ll come back.”) I don’t think I could stand not at least trying to catch him. They don’t have front claws and there are other cats roaming the neighborhood. The last thing I want to have to do is wrestle either of them into a carrier to go to the vet! (Or worse.)
Murray C.September 24, 2016 / 12:07 pm
Good luck!
I’m finally in the last week of wearing my brace. I am so ready to be out of it. What is surprising is that what’s so uncomfortable are the straps. The weight of my arm is pulling on my neck and pressing against the right scapula, and the belt around my waist rides up, especially during sleep (HAH!), hindering breathing. The chair I’m sleeping (HAH!) in isn’t terribly comfortable when you’re spending so much time in it and I wake up with such pain – not in my shoulder so much, but in all my upper back muscles and spine. I can’t really shift position and everything is under pressure for long periods.
End of kvetch?
I have learned something about using one’s non-dominant hand. I haven’t had a terrible time with this – some awkwardness, much due to my left hand being weaker than my right. But what surprised me to fully realize is how I “think” with my right hand in ways I can’t with my left. I’m sure that is learned – if I lost use of my right the left could eventually take over fully. But when I’ve tried to draw or paint with my left hand, thought did not flow. Something – namely the mechanical effort – was dominating and interrupting the ceative flow. Right brain/left brain argument, I suppose. So, there – my deep thoughts on the subject. I start PT next Friday and I will DRIVE there – with hubby along, at his insistence, so I don’t do damage to me, the car, or anyone else!?
Have a great week end, everybody. I’m hoping George Weasleycat comes home soon. Happy birthday to Amy’s dad, AJ, glad you know more about your Mom so you have a way to proceed.
Murray C.September 24, 2016 / 12:11 pm
And, yes, the astral poetry! Excellent.
FayeSeptember 24, 2016 / 12:28 pm
Oh Debg. Put out food and lots of signs and tell all the neighbors and call all the shelters and vets. I so hope he finds his way back. ?
debgSeptember 24, 2016 / 1:59 pm
Food brought around an orange tabby last night, but I’m not sure if it was George–too dark to tell, and I know there’s a marmie in the neighborhood. If it wasn’t George, he’s probably telling all the other cats stories about that crazy lady who kept trying to catch him, calling him by a name that isn’t actually his.
Murray C., I could swear that half my brain lives in my fingertips. I “know” stuff by touch and think things through by typing them. One hand handles the fine motor skills when I’m knitting, sewing, spinning, etc.; the other handles the gross motor skills. If I ever had to switch hands for some reason, I truly wouldn’t be able to function. Kudos to you for your optimism and positive outlook through this difficult experience.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 2:05 pm
I was listening to an episode of The Infinite Monkey Cage podcast yesterday, and they had everyone on the panel pick up two markers and try to write their name at the same time with both hands at the same time (they were just “writing” in the air, but they suggested the audience try it next time they were at a dry erase board). Some people did better than others, but they pointed out that once you actually start thinking about what you’re doing with your non-dominant hand, you can no longer do it.
amylizSeptember 24, 2016 / 2:17 pm
I hope George shows up safe and sound and SOON, DebG.
Curses!? My movie/dinner plans are cancelled. My friend got called into work. They have to evacuate due to the threat of flooding Monday/Tuesday. He lives in a different town than me, with a different river, but both towns experienced severe flooding in 2008.
Was terrible for many homes and businesses so keep your fingers crossed there is not a repeat of that!
Murray C.September 24, 2016 / 3:00 pm
As long as my left hand is writing in reverse I can do that with no difficulty – and you’re right, the minute you think about it, not so good.
allein ?September 24, 2016 / 3:03 pm
I am so pathetically not left-handed..
LauraSeptember 24, 2016 / 3:08 pm
It’s very hard to not have the use of your dominant hand. Good luck with getting it over with soon, Murray! I had surgery on my dominant hand and had it in a cast for 3 months, and never did figure out how to do anything beyond the basics of dressing and feeding myself. And do you know how mortifying it is to have to ask your boss to tie your shoes? (She thought nothing of it, but I found it really embarrassing!)
That brace sounds miserable, and sleeping in a chair, too. I bet just getting to sleep in your own bed will be wonderful!
Murray C.September 24, 2016 / 3:17 pm
OW-W-W! 3 months! I can take my brace off to shower and do my brief exercises, so maybe half hour a day. I’m actually typing two handed right now!! YAY! And, yes, asking people to do things for you – like put deodorant on my left armpit because I can’t move my right arm in that direction yet. I have learned how to do that – the left-handed, left armpit maneuver. Very advanced. (I know, too much info – It IS funny, however.☺️)
LauraSeptember 24, 2016 / 10:50 pm
It actually wasn’t too bad — and if I had the same surgery today, they’d only put me in a splint for 2 weeks, not a cast for 3 months, which is quite a change. I could still use the side of my hand to hit a keyboard, so I could type with all the fingers of one hand and the side of my little finger with the other, and thus was able to function at work. But I couldn’t drive that whole time, which drove me crazy! And of course I really couldn’t write anything by hand, try though I might. I was very glad indeed to get my hand back, as I’m sure you will be when your brace comes off, too!
6rabbitsSeptember 25, 2016 / 8:08 am
I learned how to do the left hand-left armpit manuever when I injured my right shoulder. I had to keep my right arm clamped to my side. I could use my right hand, but not being able to move my arm above waist level meant I still couldn’t do most things! I’d forgotten all about that, Murray C., until you mentioned the deodorant! That was almost 20 years ago!
Have you planned a “brace coming-out party”????
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 11:07 am
A party, no. But next day I start physical therapy and from what I’ve heard this is when the fun really begins. I won’t even be doing any bicep work until I’ve had 10 weeks of PT.(3x a week) Not sure what Christmas will be like this year – with around 30+ boxes of stuff to haul from the attic I’m thinking “scaled back”??⛄️
I’m rather pleased that someone else figured out the same-hand same-armpit maneuver- misery does, indeed, love company.?
FayeSeptember 25, 2016 / 8:53 pm
Same-hand, same-armpit maneuver.

It’s raining here, so even if I wasn’t coughing up a lung, while having to whisper everything (sinus infection, irritated throat, chest congestion), I wouldn’t be able to attend the church rummage sale. Churches have the best rummage sales, as does the hospital auxiliary.

[rummages around browsing history…where is that thing?..oh! here it is!]
The gloves remind me of a hoody my daughter had. It had triangle spines down the head and back and horns that could be mistaken for ears. She wore it to the zoo one time and the owl that we had never seen do anything but sleep locked onto her. She walked around and moved up and down. The owl sat perfectly still but moved his neck swiveling all around with intense eyes. It was pretty cool.

Nice crochet work! I’m about to start a knitted dragon shawl in the PERFECT shade of green. First I have to finish a hat and a shawl for work, a crocheted chicken for someone at work, then the beautiful cardi I started last week.

I saw a couple of pairs of these in different colors. I love this particular color combo – great color theory demo.
LauraSeptember 24, 2016 / 10:51 pm
Those mitts are really great! But they’re crocheted, alas. I know a dragon scales pattern for knitting socks; I should try adapting it to mittens, which I’ve promised my daughter another pair of. It’s such a pretty pattern!
HahaSeptember 26, 2016 / 2:19 am
Dragon scale socks sound awesome! Love it!
PattySeptember 24, 2016 / 1:10 pm
That’s cute! My crocheters mind was looking at it wondering if I could figure it out without a pattern. Then I remembered the fox blanket I am not done with yet, and the Koopa costume I promised my (adult) son for his turtle. Also, grandson’s rocket ship toy, baby sweater, among other things that family has requested. Actually, I’ve been on antibiotics for 2 days, and I do feel better than I did 4 days ago. My ribs are sore from all the coughing though.

Well my day started with me accidentally making a bagel pretzel in the microwave again. It was just chewie enough for me to be able to use up the last portion of scallion cream cheese. I would have had to eat the cream cheese off my finger if the bagel got much more hard.
Drawing something that got stuck in my head while I was working on my website. Feels good to take up the pencils, pens and markers again.
I’m going to begin working with stencils, color pencils and a bit of stamping in the mix. Want to mask areas too. Will begin a pad for separate small abstracts for color experiments. I think of everything I draw in shades of black, white and gray. I have just begun to use color.
Reading a psychotherapy theory book that starts with a brief history different philosophical views of self, subjectivity and intersubjectivity. Stretching my old brain. I never studied philosophy or psychology before. Feels good to learn and think deep. My self study has ruined me for reading fiction. Only so many hours in the day or days in my years or years left in my life.

Hey, if anyone is doing any shopping this weekend…
Saw this article last week…and it came with a cute video.
We had to go to IKEA today, left early so the Open tread was not up yet. We officially went to get plastic bags (freezer, storage) We love their bags, they are much better than Glad or the store brand.
Well of course, with the way the store is designed you can’t just get what you came for, you have to go through the whole store and be tempted to buy stuff.
I think we did pretty good, we came out with the bags we came for plus : a lamp, 2 bath towels, 2 mattress covers and a set of glass containers, for a total 138.00$. Not too bad ?
FayeSeptember 25, 2016 / 8:57 pm
Think of it this way: they marked the bags down from $140 and all the other stuff was free. Good shopping.
I euthanized my Minkette one year ago today. She was 22. I have many pictures of her, none of them any good because she was black. I think of her every day.
jerzowaSeptember 24, 2016 / 3:39 pm
Hugs sent to you, Dubravka. I have two black cats, I love them enormously (and they love me back), and they are the most beautiful creatures in the world (I know, I know…), but no picture I take of them gives any justice to their beauty. Incredibly difficult to capture the blackness and glossiness of their fur…
Topik and Topcia are nine now, and I hope they will be with me as long as your Minkette was with you…

So far, I’ve only been once through the death of my cat. When Chester died of renal failure, it took me five years of mourning to recover. Interestingly, I needed axactly the same amount of time to recover after the death of my beloved mentor, the Master Yoda/Gandlaf of mine, the professor that introduced me to history of medicine, the subject I lecture now. Obviously, when you love somebody and you lose that person, it doesn’t matter what species that person was…

I have had a completely lazy day, and plan to continue doing exactly nothing. The Candidate took a couple days off leading up to the argument session Monday, as did the Running Mate, and I am *very* grateful for a breather. The demands have gotten crazy, everything asked for 15 minutes ago, and some days with only two of us we’ve barely had time for potty breaks! It’s completely ridiculous. I like my job, but there’s a limit, which I suspect is why most of the other folks have stopped participating.
Ah well, c’est la vie! (Stupid autocorrect tried to change that to “chest last view”!)
Last night dear Melody found a roll of toilet paper and had a *wonderful* time tearing it to shreds all over the bedroom carpet. She was so proud of her artwork! Silly creature.

I think that the Saturday open thread is genius and adds immensely to the incredible family-like feeling here.

Well, that’s one of making some space in my cabinet…
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 11:22 am
Yep, very efficient.
Phred's MomSeptember 25, 2016 / 6:00 pm
Saves washing it, too. Green in addition to efficient.
Quiet day of staying off my knee (osteoarthritis sucks). Lily however, has had a nice rambunctious day! Playing with her new tunnel, chasing her felt meeces and of course, bird watching!
I kiss them multiple times every day until she squirms out of my grasp in disgusted horror and has to rampage through the house to make up for it. 🙂

One of the rare weekends I got to do anything “weekendy”. My parents visited and I pushed my mom through the local arboretum in a wheelchair to see the flowers, sculptures, giant koi, and model trains. We got soaked by the sprinklers and my septuagenarian mother laughed like a little girl while my dad bragged about learning from our mistake and staying dry.

That sounds very sweet! Good for your mom for getting such pleasure out of your time together.

Excellent.

Just now, late to the game. Antiques flea yesterday, with nothing to drag back
to the cave. Today, the usual big Sunday breakfast, quick load of laundry, and,
after lunch, an art exhibition/sale up just north of New Hope, PA, at a wee
Brigadoon of a location, Phillips Mill. It’s a hamlet of two-hundred-year-old
fieldstone houses, and, of course an old mill which is where the art show will
be. I’m living dangerously and bringing my checkbook in case there’s something
irresistible. This art show tends to avoid the ubiquitous paintings of barns which
tourists to this area tend to go for. They are fun if you can’t see the real thing
every day. Just being in this wee hamlet is therapeutic, especially these days
of senseless slaughter and other general cr@ppiness in the news. I need chocolate.
Best wishes to all here, and, Get Home, George, dagnabbit!
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 11:29 am
Wondering where you were!? Sounds like fun things going on.
Phred's MomSeptember 25, 2016 / 3:00 pm
Well, I bought a very, very nice watercolor, which I must wait to pick up
at the end of the show, October 29. Hard to wait that long. It’s a winter
scene, into which I can mentally wander, beautifully done, neatly matted
and framed, ready to hang. Love it. THis show is juried, so there’s no
schlock. One of the jurists is one of my favorite Philly artists, Howard Watson,
who does wonderful watercolors of the architecture and scenes of the city
and environs. I alteady have one of hispaintings, that my mom bought
from him ages ago on Rittenhouse Square.
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 7:35 pm
Very cool. Sounds like you had a nice day.
Mich PattSeptember 25, 2016 / 11:26 am
Late to the game too! Busy with final prep for vacation. We leave Sep 27 and return Oct 7. Can’t wait to unplug, unwind, and see something new. Charlie cat will be left at home with a Netflix-addicted pet sitter so she’ll get plenty of hoomin cuddles. 🙂
Hope all is well with y’all and that Weasleycat returns safe and sound.
Murray C.September 25, 2016 / 11:30 am
Have a fabulous time and we’ll expect a full report when you return.?
allein ?September 25, 2016 / 9:41 pm
Just got home from dinner at a Mexican restaurant with an Irish name, after which we wandered around town and the four of us got dessert from three different places – two got ice cream from a candy shop (I might have to go back and get their chocolate golf balls for my dad’s birthday), one wanted a vegan brownie from a particular pizza place, and I got a little cheesecake topped with chocolate mousse topped with a chocolate-ganache-covered strawberry from the Cake Boss’s place in Red Bank, NJ. It was yum. (One of the ice cream-getters also broke down and got a cannoli, which they filled fresh from a bag of filling in a mini fridge on the counter. Not a cannoli fan myself, but it looked good.)
And my friends gave me a coloring book and some Harney & Sons Cranberry Autumn tea and bought my dinner and dessert (except for the gift cards the restaurant gave me when we were there for my birthday last year which is why I wanted to go there in the first place) for my birthday (which is next weekend).
FayeSeptember 25, 2016 / 9:54 pm
Nice! Happy pre Happy Birthday Happiness. ????????????????????
allein ?September 25, 2016 / 10:19 pm
Thanks 🙂
Murray C.September 26, 2016 / 12:06 am
Sounds like a great time. I have dear friends who just downsized and are living in an apartment in Red Bank- nice town. Happy Birthday for now and we’ll say it again next week.
Wow! I could stare into kitty’s eyes all day!
I am officially on vacation! Who wants margaritas?!
whoo hoo, vacation, YEAH!!!! And yes bartender, I will take one of those puparitas. Have fun wherever and whatever you do. I’ll be heading on vacation in less than 2 months. Can. Not. Wait.
Congrats on your dad’s 93rd! How wonderful that him and his wife are still in their own home. Enjoy the movie, I might have to go see it as everyone has been giving it rave reviews.
Actually we “kids” are (gently) encouraging them to move back closer to all of us. My brother has checked out some very nice retirement communities in his city that have the option of going into assisted living. Dad is for it but his wife is dragging her feet. Sure would be nice to have him an hour away instead of seven!
Tell them better to do it according to a plan rather than in or after an emergency.
Been there done that. It sucks for them and all of you kids.
Yes, exactly. Wish us luck in making headway in the situation!
Hugs and good thoughts.
???
Teigen says you will have a good weekend!
With him around, it will be nothing BUT a good weekend. I might never leave the house, I would just snorgle with him all day. Those eyes are just hypnotic.
I wonder who would win a staring contest, Teigen or starry-eyed kitty*…
*who is 15 and whose name is Pansitas, according to the Reddit page. It means “belly” in Spanish. 🙂
Allen, your secret is revealed! The Daily Puppy- you are clever.
Did I mention I seem to have Fridays as my day off????!!!!!
and do you know This is Colossal? http://www.thisiscolossal.com/ and foodgawker.com? But Cutetropolis is my go-to website… I won’t miss a new post here for anything!!
Never seen that one! Very cool!
GeekFill is another one that you can get sucked into pretty easily.
Love Colossal. And My Modern Metropolis.
Hey, N. Fritz, I live in Iowa City and am also Bloom County fan!?
small world, AmyLiz!
Yeah, I never heard that. I’ve just heard they’re…loquacious…
Very loquacious. They rarely stop talking when awake.
I love cats who talk. Hmmm next kitty possibilities.
I guess I got the impression that they were aloof from another Disney movie, The Lady and The Tramp. Good to hear that I was wrong. I know they can be talkers as one cat I had must have been part Siamese as he talked all day long.
(Or worse.)
And, yes, the astral poetry! Excellent.
Oh Debg. Put out food and lots of signs and tell all the neighbors and call all the shelters and vets. I so hope he finds his way back. ?
As long as my left hand is writing in reverse I can do that with no difficulty – and you’re right, the minute you think about it, not so good.
I am so pathetically not left-handed..
OW-W-W! (I know, too much info – It IS funny, however.☺️)
It actually wasn’t too bad — and if I had the same surgery today, they’d only put me in a splint for 2 weeks, not a cast for 3 months, which is quite a change.
A party, no. But next day I start physical therapy and from what I’ve heard this is when the fun really begins. I won’t even be doing any bicep work until I’ve had 10 weeks of PT.(3x a week) Not sure what Christmas will be like this year – with around 30+ boxes of stuff to haul from the attic I’m thinking “scaled back”??⛄️
I’m rather pleased that someone else figured out the same-hand same-armpit maneuver- misery does, indeed, love company.?
Same-hand, same-armpit maneuver.
Sounds like instructions for a production of “I’m A Little Teapot”
(here is my handle, here is my spout)
Hee, hee, hee!
?I’m a little tea pot
Short and stout
Here is my handle
So I don’t spout??
Ahem?
Still wondering about George- any sightings?
Has Weasleycat been found yet? So sorry to hear he’s still missing. Sometimes I heard if you put his used litter out, the scent may be able to guide him home. Good luck.
“The eyes of the cat Hold galaxies uncharted One look, you are lost”
Love your astral surreal poetry!
I think NASA should use this kitty for their Astronomy Picture of the Day. 🙂
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/
It’s raining here, so even if I wasn’t coughing up a lung, while having to whisper everything (sinus infection, irritated throat, chest congestion), I wouldn’t be able to attend the church rummage sale. Churches have the best rummage sales, as does the hospital auxiliary.
Oh, no! Feel better! (It’s pretty cloudy here but not raining so far.)
Would a bearskin rug make you cozier?
This would be an awesome knitted, (crocheted?) rug/throw/blanket!
I love kitty’s exqusite eyes!
Ooh! Speaking of knitted/crocheted…
[rummages around browsing history…where is that thing?..oh! here it is!]
DRAGON GLOVES!
http://www.boredpanda.com/dragon-gloves-mareshop/
The gloves remind me of a hoody my daughter had. It had triangle spines down the head and back and horns that could be mistaken for ears. She wore it to the zoo one time and the owl that we had never seen do anything but sleep locked onto her. She walked around and moved up and down. The owl sat perfectly still but moved his neck swiveling all around with intense eyes. It was pretty cool.
That sounds awesome and a little scary.
Those mitts are really great! But they’re crocheted, alas. I know a dragon scales pattern for knitting socks; I should try adapting it to mittens, which I’ve promised my daughter another pair of. It’s such a pretty pattern!
Dragon scale socks sound awesome! Love it!
I think the above version would be a tad…sticky.
For a second I thought you were gonna say you were making an adult-size Koopa costume for your son…
Me too. Were it given to me, I would wear it. 🙂
Yes, feel better soon, Patty. I do envy your rain, tho’
So I have 2 giant grapefruits and I’m a nerd…so I had to measure them. They are approximately 15 inches around…
I might need a bigger spoon…
Allein, you are a hoot.
Sweet.
I love that the Siamese kitty appeared with the heading of the blue eyed white kitty. The juxtaposition of the two different coloured heads but blue eyes was rather eye catching, if you’ll pardon the overuse of the word eyes.
It’s perfect gloomy, chilly, rainy fall weather today so I fully intend to stay in all day and read. I may or may not stay in my pajamas all day too (or in this case a vintage 1940s silk robe)! Happy weekend ya’ll…
How to Pick the Fastest Line in the Supermarket
We had to go to IKEA today, left early so the Open tread was not up yet. We officially went to get plastic bags (freezer, storage) We love their bags, they are much better than Glad or the store brand.
Well of course, with the way the store is designed you can’t just get what you came for, you have to go through the whole store and be tempted to buy stuff.
I think we did pretty good, we came out with the bags we came for plus : a lamp, 2 bath towels, 2 mattress covers and a set of glass containers, for a total 138.00$. Not too bad ?
Think of it this way: they marked the bags down from $140 and all the other stuff was free. Good shopping.
More Photoshops of that caterpillar from awhile back:
http://www.boredpanda.com/funny-caterpillar-photoshop-battle/
😀
Caterpillar!
These are fabulous.
Ooo. Magical.
I euthanized my Minkette one year ago today. She was 22. I have many pictures of her, none of them any good because she was black. I think of her every day.
Topik and Topcia are nine now, and I hope they will be with me as long as your Minkette was with you…
Thank you and I wish you many more years with your beauties.
Obviously, when you love somebody and you lose that person, it doesn’t matter what species that person was…
Awwwwww. One never forgets those moments. Been through it with 7 buns.
That’s very sad. 🙁 I know you must miss her. It’s always so hard, isn’t it? I have a favorite quote for such times, from Queen Elizabeth: “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
Writing that down…
Queen Elizabeth II? The first Elizabeth (wish she were running for pres., she
was SO capable) quoth many a gem herself.
I know. You miss them forever.
Thank you all for your kindness.
No pictures of the artwork?!
Sorry, I had to shrink it enough!
I bet she had fun with that! Did she look guilty afterward?
Better than Pollack. The white against the floral background is pure genius.
I like that Melody is getting feedback on her work from a fellow artist. 😛
✍??
I’m sure she’s very pleased. It’s very important to do your job well, even when you’re a dog and your job is to be mischievous!
I was thinking DuChomp, but art is so personal.
Salvador Dogli?
Yes, Melody is an Artist! 🙂
I think from now on when I want to say ” c’est la vie” I’ll say, “Chest last view”.
?
Me too! 🙂
Now there’s a quote!
Guilty? Are you kidding? She was proud of her handiwork, as would be any self-respecting pup!
I truly love this site and its sense of community.
I think that the Saturday open thread is genius and adds immensely to the incredible family-like feeling here.
The rambling “train of thought” thread reminds me of weekend family dinner conversations when I was a child — and of course…
The Saturday thread is “like a box of chocolates — you never know what you are going to get.”
Thank you all for your positive contribution to my day!
Well, here’s another random thing for you that I just came across a little while ago.
???
Thank you!
Heeeee! I thought potatoes had eyes and corn had ears!?
Too funny!?
Iso agree with your assessment, SAA, (if I may be so bold as to call you by your first letters!?) – the stream of multi consciences (?) is much like real conversations among family and friends – chaos theory??
Well, that’s one of making some space in my cabinet…
Yep, very efficient.
Saves washing it, too. Green in addition to efficient.
Quiet day of staying off my knee (osteoarthritis sucks). Lily however, has had a nice rambunctious day! Playing with her new tunnel, chasing her felt meeces and of course, bird watching!
Oh my gosh. She is incredibly lovely. Clunk.
And those ears are just as huge as you think they are! ^^
She has that Egyptian aspect – regal profile.
And lovely eyelashes too!
I want to kiss those ears! *smooch*
Antiques flea yesterday, with nothing to drag back

after lunch, an art exhibition/sale up just north of New Hope, PA, at a wee
Brigadoon of a location, Phillips Mill. It’s a hamlet of two-hundred-year-old
fieldstone houses, and, of course an old mill which is where the art show will

Best wishes to all here, and, Get Home, George, dagnabbit!
Wondering where you were!? Sounds like fun things going on.

Very cool. Sounds like you had a nice day.
Have a fabulous time and we’ll expect a full report when you return.?
Nice! Happy pre Happy Birthday Happiness. ????????????????????
Thanks 🙂
Sounds like a great time. I have dear friends who just downsized and are living in an apartment in Red Bank- nice town. Happy Birthday for now and we’ll say it again next week.
