Life in Bird Prison

In the Talk-Talk Maximum Security Bird Prison, conditions are bleak and brutal. There is a strict pecking order, and new inmates must be careful not to ruffle anyone’s feathers. Sometimes an older prisoner will take a new arrival under his wing for protection.

In exchange for their birdseed ration, of course.

Wow. That must feel awesomely comforting for both of them.

Little one looks like the Sun Conure I saw at the park a couple weeks ago. Big one looks like his cockatoo friend except he wasn’t as big (relative to the conure); I’m guessing he was still young, then.

Also, Talk Talk prison! ? ?

(Morgan Freeman voiceover:) I must admit I didn’t think much of Andy first time I saw him. Looked like a stiff breeze would blow him over.

      ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love you and I hate that I didn’t think of that first.

Think they’ll make it to Zihuatanejo?

OK, I have to ask – a movie?

        • Not That Mike The Other Mike September 30, 2016 / 11:36 pm

Yes, it’s a reference to “The Shawshank Redemption,” about two men who form a friendship in prison. I cannot say more without spoiling the story. If you haven’t seen it, it’s one of the greatest movies ever.

            I knew I liked you.

          You need to watch Shawshank.

    • Mikeyfur September 30, 2016 / 2:15 pm

Oh! I didn’t see that little foot until you mentioned it. Precious.

Oh, good eye – I would’ve missed it too.

      Cutest protection racket ever!

“Talk Talk prison”! Ha!! This is so adorable. What a sweet ‘too! (Though I’m wondering if the wee conure is comfort plus a sort of avian hot water bottle….)

I can’t believe that two people voted this down…

    • Madame X September 30, 2016 / 4:20 pm

Maybe people who disapprove of keeping birds (or animals as a whole) as pets. Me, I’m all for Teh Qte, wheresover it may be found…

  8. Jakepets September 30, 2016 / 4:40 pm

I actually checked for down votes, because I think the headline (cage = jail) was kinda asking for ’em. Not from ME, though! Diane Ackerman describes a similar scene between 2 species of bat housed together in her essay collection “The Moon by Whale Light.” So sweet.

?? Did you ever know that you’re my hero.
You are the bird beneath my wing.

      Sweet.

So cute I literally teared up! Now if we could just get, say, a tawny frogmouth cuddling the cockatoo, and an eagle owl cuddling the tawny frogmouth, and a little parakeet being cuddled by the conjure, and a hummingbird being cuddled by the parakeet, and me cuddling all of them! That would be ideal.

      Matryoshka birds!

      • Murray C. September 30, 2016 / 11:21 pm

        Explain, please?

        • allein ? September 30, 2016 / 11:50 pm

          Russian nesting dolls

          • Haha October 1, 2016 / 1:03 am

A matryoshka doll also known as a Russian nesting doll, or Russian doll, is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another.

I just changed doll for bird. 🙂

This explanation is doubly appropriate because of “nesting” dolls.

            • Murray C. October 1, 2016 / 10:51 am

I have some of them just didn’t know the Russian name. Sort of embarrassing since my husband is half Russian. And, yes, excellent punning.?
