If you’re small enough to wear a sock as a sweater, it’s cute. Is that an official rule?

    • DebG October 12, 2016 / 12:50 pm

If it’s not, it should be.

Now that CO is offline, those rules need to be posted somewhere (hint hint).

      • tara October 12, 2016 / 8:38 pm

Oh – I second the reinstatement of the Rules!
        I loved those.

    Kitten should be named “Dobby”.

    • Gigi the cat lady October 12, 2016 / 2:43 pm

      YES!!! Perfect name for him!!!

  3. dubravkamcvmd October 12, 2016 / 1:42 pm

First, all kittens up for adoption should be dressed in sock sweaters because it causes the cuteness quotient to rise exponentially.
Second, how wonderful to witness the ducks getting their first experience of water. Their excitement and happiness is so touching.
Third, hear, hear! on the Rules of Cuteness (unless it would be illegal in some way).

So happy little kitten is safe and warm. And I got my CALENDAR !!!!! Lulu did an excellent job of printing and shipping. I don’t care that it isn’t 2017 yet…..that baby is going on the wall here at work today.!

    The ducks made me teary.

    • Smartypants October 12, 2016 / 2:42 pm

I love that first pioneering duck – “Hey guys, I’m still alive! This stuff is actually nice!”

  6. Gigi the cat lady October 12, 2016 / 2:54 pm

Duck taking to water for the first time was heart warming, so happy for them.

As for the Rules of cuteness, this is Cutetropolis, let’s not try to make it a carbon copy CO, let’s enjoy this site as it’s own thing, I know I do.

P.S. carbon paper was used with typewriters to make identical copies of documents.
P.P.S typewriters were machine used to write documents before the advent of computers

I’m with you Gigi, I hope it doesn’t become a carbon copy to CO. I love the new, different Mike vibe. 🙂

      • allein ? October 12, 2016 / 3:11 pm

As much as I loved CO, Mike was always my favorite writer, so I am more than glad to have all Mike, all the time.

        • dubravkamcvmd October 12, 2016 / 3:29 pm

He was my favorite too but I don’t think having a hand-dandy posting of the Rules of Cuteness is trying to make this site a carbon copy. I liked them and I thought it would be nice to have them around but if it’s not possible or desirable, not a problem for me. Maybe they’re available on the Wayback Machine site. Does everybody remember the Wayback Machine on Rocky and Bullwinkle? The segment was Somebody (dog scientist) and His Pet Boy Somebody. If anyone remembers their names I’d love to know.

            Sherman & Peabody?

            • dubravkamcvmd October 12, 2016 / 4:50 pm

Yes!! Mr. Peabody and His Pet Boy Sherman! I loved that cartoon. AND I just got my calendar! LuLu does a great job packing. I’m very torn about looking through all of it right away. I saw in January that Mike has a lot of “Days” listed, some of which I recognize, e.g. Martin Luther King Day, some of which seem likely, e.g. National Bird Day, and then some make me think Mike is making them up, e.g., Cuddle Up Day, Bubble Bath Day, Opposite Day, Backward Day. Have people noticed this?

              • Murray C. October 12, 2016 / 5:24 pm

I admit to having had a similar thought, Dubra!

Nope! All legitimate holidays. My source was http://www.cute-calendar.com/ and for every holiday I chose, I searched Google to see if there were additional references to it.

Today is “Moment of Frustration Day.” Dang, wish I’d included that one.

                • allein ? October 12, 2016 / 8:53 pm

My calendar came! I won’t pick it up until Friday, though.

            • Murray C. October 12, 2016 / 4:54 pm

              LOVED that whole show!

          • Not That Mike The Other Mike October 12, 2016 / 3:31 pm

I think the Rules of Cuteness were gathered up into a single page at least once. I will see if I can find a permanent link.

            • Murray C. October 12, 2016 / 5:25 pm

I’m sure we could invent a few of our own – this is a pretty creative group.

          • allein ? October 12, 2016 / 3:34 pm

They’re out there somewhere, I’m sure.

I can tell you that #15 is “Disproportionate ratio between relative ear-to-head size.”

(That’s the October page from this year’s CO mini wall calendar. The example is a baby doxie who may well find a new home elsewhere on my wall once the year is over.)

        • Amyliz October 12, 2016 / 4:08 pm

I, too, loved CO and still miss it but I also love cutetropolis for it’s uniqueness, thanks to Mike, and I will leave it up to him if he wants to revive the rules! 🙂

I remember using a typewriter for all my high school papers/essays!!

      • Gigi the cat lady October 12, 2016 / 5:21 pm

Thank you Julie, I’m happy to know I’m not the only one to have used one!

        • Murray C. October 12, 2016 / 5:29 pm

I used one into my 40’s!!!

        • 6rabbits October 13, 2016 / 7:24 am

My electric typewriter was my most prized possession in college! They still actually make carbon paper, too. (Needed it to make copies of notes sent home before I had a personal printer at school!)

    • belphebe October 12, 2016 / 6:28 pm

We can borrow the rules and not be a carbon copy, just like “CC” and “BCC” are leftovers from the old typewriter days, even if people don’t realize it. I have no idea what ‘bacronym’ has been invented for the initials “CC” and “BCC”, but they used to mean “carbon copy” and “blind carbon copy”. Every email program still uses them, but email certainly doesn’t use carbon paper!
(and don’t get me started on that diskette icon for save, or a house for home, or …)
