Ceiling Cat: The Interview

“The things you see in this business, man, it’ll mess up your head,” says noted surveillance expert Ceiling Cat, nursing his whiskey sour at the dimly-lit bar where he’s agreed to talk with me. “You name it, I’ve watched it: Money laundering, kickbacks, five-hour Windows Solitaire marathons, petty theft, illicit affairs, wild parties, and of course…” He pauses to steel himself. “… you know. I’ve seen enough of that for a lifetime, thanks very much.”

“(Uh-huh. Just as I thought; two sets of books. Busted.)”

“You try and tell yourself you’re doing a good thing, you’re making a difference, you know? But…” He takes a drag on his Marlboro and stares a moment into the ashtray. “I just… just don’t know how much more of this I can take.”

How did that sweet baby get up there??!! Oh, that’s right. He’s a cat. They’re liquid & can teletransport ?
AND, have to say, just got my Cuteropolis calendar and love it!! Thank you, Mike, for putting in those days like Squirrel Appreciation Day and Popcorn Day!! So very cool! Only checked out a few pages, I like the surprise each month, but it’s great. Thank you!!!

You’re welcome! I only wish there could be a Squirrels Appreciating Popcorn Day.

        Declare it yourself!

OOOOH! Can we start one?? ??(ok, it’s a chipmunk but emojis are seriously deficient in cute!)

        • Duckie ? October 18, 2016 / 5:19 pm

Let’s all plan to decorate a Christmas tree with popcorn for animals this year! You could make a specific date for that in your next calendar, Mike.

          • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 5:28 pm

Nice idea! I learned a great way to make popcorn. I put about 1/4 C kernels in a little bowl with about 1/8 tsp oil and a bit of salt, put it into a brown paper sandwich bag, fold it down twice and tape, put it in the microwave at regular high heat for about 2 minutes depending on your microwave. Same as a commercial bag, you pay attention to the frequency of pops toward the end. If you have a bigger paper bag obviously you can make more popcorn and you might have to microwave it longer. This is a much healthier way to make popcorn – the bags in the stories are loaded with chemicals. And I don’t much like air popped popcorn – just sayin’?

    • allein ? October 18, 2016 / 9:19 am

I still haven’t opened the box. I might just bring it to work and stash it until January. Though I suppose I should at least check and make sure it’s not damaged (though the box is fine so I doubt it is).

This kitty reminds me of the time my dad was replacing the fan in the bathroom. He went up in the attic to take out the old fan, then went back down to the bathroom, looked up, and there was Stripes looking down from the hole in the ceiling.

      • JenDeyan October 18, 2016 / 10:29 am

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that?! I need to order a second one for work. *makes note to put in order after work*

        • Duckie ? October 18, 2016 / 11:02 am

          Why wait?

          • JenDeyan October 18, 2016 / 10:00 pm

Cause I’m not really suppose to be web surfing at work…

  2. Faye October 18, 2016 / 9:43 am

Maybe The Donald can get a hold of that for ya.

    Infested with cute.

Love the tone of the story Mike!

    • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 10:25 am

      Film Meowr

      • Dulcie October 18, 2016 / 11:19 am

If it was a black cat it could be Film Meowr Noir…

        • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 12:33 pm

          Hee, hee!

  3. Gigi the cat lady October 18, 2016 / 10:00 am

If they make the movie, I see Bruce Willis as surveillance expert Ceiling Cat 😀

  4. Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 10:03 am

    Love this! Too funny.

I just got an idea for the next calendar, Mike (uh, oh, says he) You could make up a few days for Cutetropolis – like “I’m so happy I could incubate a sprinkler”
Day (that IS a bit long) – but you get the idea.

Unlike all of you people with great personal fortitude, I went right in and read the whole bloody thing.

    • DebG October 18, 2016 / 10:08 am

      Murray, you be you.

      How’s the shoulder doing?

      • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 10:21 am

Thanks, DebG, I guess I’m stuck with me.?Shoulder’s doing OK, definitely feeling better – if I could just stop feeling good enough that I don’t challenge it in ways I ought not to. (quite by accident) Time is my friend here and it will take some! But thanks so much for asking.

        • Laura October 18, 2016 / 12:14 pm

My least-favorite saying is one a friend of mine used to say whenever I complained about something taking too long, that my husband has now adopted to use on me in her place since she passed away some years ago: “Time takes time.” (Of course, I use it on him, too, because he’s as patient as I am. :D)

That always aggravates me because waiting is HARD! Remembering that just because something feels better doesn’t mean that it actually is better enough to use is also HARD!

So hang in there, Murray. And remember: Time takes time. 😀

          • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 12:32 pm

            Uh, oh – ear worm!?

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike October 18, 2016 / 10:14 am

Assuming I use Lulu.com again (probably will, since the quality and service is overall good) I do want to play around more with the calendar grid because there is some potential to add more comedy and thus more overall value. Good suggestion, thanks.

      • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 10:22 am

I was really impressed with the quality of the whole thing – nice stock, good reproduction – ya done good, Mike.

    • Faye October 18, 2016 / 1:37 pm

      Pssst. Me. Too.

  5. JenDeyan October 18, 2016 / 10:32 am

Haven’t seen a Ceiling Cat meme in ages. Look at Mike! Kickin’ it old school.

  6. Doug October 18, 2016 / 10:41 am

    ‘Hole’y Kat Hide-Out Batman ..

  7. Dulcie October 18, 2016 / 10:46 am

OMG you guys post such fun stuff! Mike’s narrative creates so much atmosphere that a cat as protagonist does not seem odd at all!

My Jays are down 3 games…I am sure some teams have come back 4 in row right?? Right?

    • fkaWaldenPond October 18, 2016 / 10:53 pm

Why yes, Dulcie. Um, 5-1 Jays? 😀 😀

      • Dulcie October 19, 2016 / 10:29 am

ha ha yes! I live to cheer another day!

  8. Julie October 18, 2016 / 4:53 pm

If I was President of Everything, I would make it a rule that no one is allowed to post a photo like this without providing background on how this happened.

Why is there a cat wearing some type of outfit in an office building ceiling?

Also, if I was President of Everything, anyone over 60 years old who wants a tattoo would be required to get their children’s express written consent.

    • allein ? October 18, 2016 / 5:15 pm

I thought that was just his collar but now I’m not so sure…

      • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 5:22 pm

I think it might just be a bow with a bell and other bits – rabies vac medal?.

And, Julie, how did the tattoo business suddenly enter the conversation? I’m fascinated – and amused – or did I just miss something earlier in the post?????

I do love that little face peeping down. Very lovable.

        • Julie October 18, 2016 / 5:46 pm

Tattoo thing was random. I keep a mental list of things that would become law if I was President of Everything.

          • Julie October 18, 2016 / 5:47 pm

It’s probably a very good thing that I’m not President of Everything!

      • Julie October 18, 2016 / 5:44 pm

I prefer to believe that Ceiling Cat is wearing a suit of some type that would be suitable for giving an interview.

        • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 7:23 pm

Then that’s what he’s wearing! I bow to such creativity!

    • Gigi the cat lady October 18, 2016 / 5:45 pm

So I still have 9 months to get my first tattoo? Also if I don’t have kids, who do I have to ask permission from after I’m 60? ??

      • Julie October 18, 2016 / 6:05 pm

You are free to get a tattoo – no permission needed!

Or maybe you need to ask your cats? Maybe you don’t all of them to say “yes” – just a majority of the electorate. Or you could just pick one cat to decide – the one whose judgment you trust the most. 🙂

        • Faye October 18, 2016 / 6:24 pm

I got tattooed after 60. I did not ask anyone to approve except my boss. There was actually a tattoo policy at the Library.

          • Julie October 18, 2016 / 6:40 pm

You had to ask your boss?!?! Wow.

We have a tattoo and piercings policy. Basically that you might be asked to cover a tattoo or remove a piercing. But we have a lot of young people so….

I take it your boss said “yes” to the tattoo. Was s/he surprised that you asked if it was okay first?

            • Faye October 18, 2016 / 7:54 pm

We had to submit a sketch and everything. He’s gone now. And everyone finally ignored him.

I would get more but the first two blurred quickly. If I do it again it will be to get new work on the old ones.

              • Julie October 18, 2016 / 8:25 pm

I take it that the tattoo was in an area that wasn’t covered by typical work appropriate clothing?

Our policy exists mostly to give the employer some options if someone were to get a tattoo that was offensive after s/he was hired. I can understand the perspective of your employer. What if someone got a really horrible tattoo? Like “Only Idiots Read to Their Children” tattooed really big on the forearm? Sounds crazy, but in the whole wide world of tattoos, it’s quite possible that it exists.

All three of us in my household approve of your tattoo!! Me (human, age 47), Chico (canine, age 8) and Poncho (canine, age 10)

          • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 7:24 pm

So, Faye, what IS your tattoo??????(only if you want to say)

            • Faye October 18, 2016 / 7:48 pm

              A chiwawa, of course. Lol.

              • allein ? October 18, 2016 / 8:04 pm

My friend has her late, beloved MinPin on her lower leg.

              • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 9:39 pm

                Naturellement.

        • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 7:09 pm

I have no desire to be tattooed but your having mentioned asking your cats if you can gave me an idea! I think I’ll have myself chipped!!!?

          • Faye October 18, 2016 / 7:59 pm

I’m chipped. My brain was chipped a long time ago.

            • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 11:29 pm

              Uh, ‘splain?????

          • Julie October 18, 2016 / 8:28 pm

If I had to ask my dogs for tattoo permission, I would ask Poncho because Chico is too easy to bribe.

  9. Blakeney October 18, 2016 / 9:44 pm

Does anybody know if kitty got out of there ok? There’s no info on the Imugur link…

  10. Jan October 18, 2016 / 10:03 pm

There was a later update to the Imgur account for the “Is it Kittens Yet, Honey” post (seen above under ‘you may also like’) showing the kittens! That’s the only kitten pic though. Sigh.

    The kittens are here!

    • Murray C. October 18, 2016 / 10:16 pm

Yay! Happy to see all is well. There’s one little kit that’s upside down and looks SO SCRAWNY!!!

    • allein ? October 18, 2016 / 10:20 pm

      Yay!!
