Soft in the Head

Dear Diary: Remember how I complained that my humans made me sleep on the cold, hard floor? Well, I take back every bad thing I ever said about them, because today they gave me a brand new pillow! It’s very big and soft, and it goes all the way around so there’s room for lots of heads in case I have a party and everyone gets tired at once. It also has a big storage space in the center; I’m not sure what I’ll do with that yet, but probably I’ll store my toys there.

Yes, that sounds like a smart idea. I am smart.

Silly dog, the space in the middle is for the cat.

Pablo used the storage space in the center of his bed as a dining room.

(He would get a piece of food from the bowl, go in the front opening and drop it in the bed, “dig” for it a bit, eat it, then hop out over the side and start over again. I never thought watching a dog eat would be so entertaining.)

A dog of my acquaintance from years ago absolutely had to eat any dog biscuits on the carpet. The dog would take the treat from your hand, walk to the carpet, and eat it there.

His other favorite thing was to dump the food out of the bowl. When I first met him he had a little rectangular plastic bowl with a flat molded handle at either end, perfect for whapping his paw down and flipping it. You’d hear the food scatter across the wood floor from the other room. For Christmas I got him a heavy ceramic bowl with an inch-wide lip. He managed to tip it on its side and spill out a little food once or twice but never to flip it over (not for lack of trying, though; there was weeks of listening to it banging on the floor before he mostly gave up).

Later when he lived with my parents, my mom inadvertently trained him to eat in the arm chair (or, more accurately, he trained her). One night she put the foot rest up and put his bowl on it, just so she could pet him while he ate. The next night he went up to her in the chair like he wanted to sit with her, so she picked him up. He got down, went into the kitchen, and pawed at the bowl so it would tip up and bang on the floor, then went back to her. She picked him up, he got down, banged the bowl…took him three tries to get her to understand. After that he had to have his dinner in the chair with someone sitting with him.

Spoiled? Why would you think that? 😛

          🙂 🙂 🙂
          He trained her all right!

I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T! I mean, S-M-A-R-T! (any excuse to use that line)

Now all he needs is a butt bed.

LOL!! Yes a butt bed is what he needs!

Maybe he is catching a breeze flowing through the doors.

That’s what I was thinking–maybe it was a warm day and he wanted the coolness of the bare floor.

Or maybe he’s just a dumb dog. Either way he’s very cute.

Puppeh, any way you want to lie on it is the right way 😀

this dog seems kind of smart: lay in the way of foot traffic and you’re sure to get extra pats and attention, plus the humans can’t go anywhere, including the kitchen, without you knowing, even if you decide to take a nap!

‘K, I went to the park after work and crossed paths with a girl walking her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who was trotting along with a tennis ball in his mouth. He came over to say hi to me and dropped his ball and looked up at me with those eyes while I scritched his head. Then he picked up his ball and trotted away.

    🙂

For a while I used to meet a lady on my way to work that walked her two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, they would recognise me and cross the street to get scritches.
I think they are the loveliest dogs, and those EYES!!!

      • allein ? October 20, 2016 / 9:08 am

I know! The eyes kill me.

A couple years ago there was an older guy who I often saw there walking his dog (not sure what breed she was). Her name was Runa and I would always sit on the ground and play with her while we chatted.

My Trixie Doodle loves to lay outside her bed, propping her right front leg just so on the edge so her paw dangles over into the bed. She truly is a lounger. She’d do well with a small dog size chaise.

Yep, my cats always put their toys in their mat/bed too. I now know they prefer the cup-shaped ones.

Pinky: Hey Brain .. What are we going to do tonight ..
Brain: Same thing we do every night .. Kick the dog outta his bed and take it over
(Since the taking over the world is tiring work)
