Freeze Tag

Time for a shout-out to Julie for her tip and nice note: “Thanks for giving me (and many others) a safe place to be kind to each other and to get away from the madness in the world.” Thank you and you’re welcome.

Now it’s time to share another amazing contribution, this one from N. Fritz: “Here’s a video my students put together for the midnight show at their prom last week.ย  I know it’s not a cute animal video, but they did such an awesomeย mannequinย challenge about cheating in the last seconds of an exam.”

This IS an awesome video. But I have questions:

    1) Why only male students?

    2) How did they make the water bottle float in midair?

    • N. Fritz January 30, 2017 / 6:04 pm

Hi Julie! The school is a higher technical college for mechanical engineering. We try to recruit more young ladies but they are often intimidated. Our first registration for fall is a girl which is great news! (P.S. fishing line is an amazing invention ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Brouhaha January 30, 2017 / 5:26 pm

Haha the water bottle never re-animated!

  3. DebG January 30, 2017 / 5:58 pm

    N. Fritz, your students are very talented. And I echo Julie’s question about the water bottle!

    • N. Fritz January 30, 2017 / 6:12 pm

Hi DebG! See my “cryptic” reply to Julie. I ran into that darn water bottle every day for a week while handing back papers – lol!

  4. N. Fritz January 30, 2017 / 6:10 pm

NTMTOM, thank you! What a treat to see this posted!

  5. 6rabbits January 30, 2017 / 6:11 pm

Wow! Totally awesome!?? I didn’t even know there WAS such a thing as a mannequin challenge, but your students knocked it out of the park! Love the guy holding the chair in the air to look under it!? And I, too, wondered about the water bottle?

    • N. Fritz January 30, 2017 / 6:16 pm

Thanks for the kudos, 6 Rabbits! They deserve it!

  6. AJ January 30, 2017 / 6:12 pm

    N. Fritz – is that you in the brown sweater??? And I was wondering too about the water bottle, thank you for confirming my hypothesis that is was fishing line.

    • N. Fritz January 30, 2017 / 6:14 pm

No AJ, I wish! that’s my colleague, aka the students’ form teacher.

  7. Haha January 30, 2017 / 6:43 pm

I dunno N. Fritz, this is CUTEtropolis, they all look pretty cute to me. Many of the young men I know are the epitome of animals. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Great job on video! And what good sports! Them and you! Thanks for sharing with us!

    N. Fritz this is cute. Smart cute. And each and every one of those students are cute.

What a nice classroom too. Just different enough to know it is not USA. But familiar too.
And the young people of the world including your students look so alive and ready to accomplish all that is new.

    Great post.

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:24 pm

Hi Faye! One big difference between the US and Austria is the high school classroom. In Austria, the students have a classroom and the teachers commute between classes. Which makes a lot of sense, since it cuts down on traffic between classes. But it also has its disadvantages, like the fact that the classroom is their turf and teachers are just “visitors.”

    That’s great!

Foreign Men of Cutetropolis calendar? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:24 pm

      Great idea, Allein!

  10. Smartypants January 30, 2017 / 8:44 pm

Well done, you guys – clever from start to finish!

Also, at times I felt like we were moving through a 3-D version of a Renaissance painting – for example, the young man who’s leaning back holding out the sheet of paper (:53) – so many of them are in classical poses, like The Creation of Adam or The Last Supper.

    Great job!

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:26 pm

Smartypants, I have no idea how they held those positions for the duration of the video! But you’re right, there is a strong aesthetic to the video which certainly adds to its effectiveness!

I will never not be impressed by these videos. Love the ending too.

  12. tara January 31, 2017 / 5:49 am

    Wow.
    That is really great.
There is not even a twitch anywhere! Very well done.

  13. Caz January 31, 2017 / 8:20 am

I found that very relaxing to watch! Great video ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. The Iglets January 31, 2017 / 8:50 am

I love mannequin videos! This one is high up on my list. Those future (hopefully) engineers will do great things!

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:32 pm

We’ll see, Iglets! The have their leaving exams/A-levels in the spring. But some of them are definitely going places… as part of their graduation requirements, they have to do a thesis. Last year a couple of students developed maintenance systems for vintage airplanes belonging to Red Bull Aviation. And this year a couple have developed heavy duty equipment for a local company. They are truly professionals at the tender age of 19!

      • Haha January 31, 2017 / 4:13 pm

I’ll preface this by saying I’m a bit sleepy.
I read your comment, glanced at the link and thought, “Oh, this will be cute with rabbits.”
Clicked on the link. Was confused. Tried to think of what the joke could be. Went back and carefully read the link. Hmm. No “t”. Went and watched anyway. With all the beards, it was still rather fuzzy and funny, just not the fuzzy I was expecting. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • allein ? January 31, 2017 / 4:19 pm

I will admit, it did occur to me that someone might see “rabbits” instead of “rabbis.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was watching several episodes of Comedy Central’s @Midnight on demand last night and they mentioned this video. So I had to look for it.

        • 6rabbits January 31, 2017 / 9:07 pm

I, too, saw “rabbits” and was quite confused!? (Those rabbis did about as well as my students would!)

  15. Birdcage January 31, 2017 / 8:55 am

This may be my fav mannequin video ever! Great job to the students and the videographer!!!!

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:33 pm

I will pass on your comments, Birdcage! Thank you!

  16. sumo-mermaid January 31, 2017 / 11:29 am

I’ve seen several mannequin challenge videos, but I’ve never heard if they’re in support of anything (like the ice challenge was for ALS). Does anyone know?

    • N. Fritz January 31, 2017 / 3:34 pm

I tried to research that very question when the mannequin challenge was all the rage, Sumo-Mermaid. I don’t think there is a charity that benefits which is a real shame.

  17. Emsthemonster January 31, 2017 / 2:23 pm

This was really great, now I know where all those handsome Austrian engineers come from ๐Ÿ™‚
It also reminds me of my long gone secondary school years. I attended a technical secondary school – advanced chemistry specialisation. While I was good at all the theoretical parts, calculations, etc., I was totally hopeless with the required manual work, for example putting a distillation set together from the component parts. I was looking at the tools without any idea how to do it and I just fastened everything I found on the base, it looked more of a crazy Christmas tree than a distillation set. My classmates felt sorry for me and each kid that passed my work spot put something up on it, so finally I had a perfect set so I made the calculations for them in return ๐Ÿ™‚
