Fiona Update: The Big Girl Bottle

Fiona the preemie hippo continues to gain weight, and now her care team at the Cincinnati Zoo has brought out the heavy artillery: an extra-large milk bottle, which Fiona drains like a pro. Follow her progress on the Cincinnati Zoo website. (Thanks, Lois M.)

That gives new meaning to the phrase “Hungry Hungry Hippo”. For some reason, Fiona reminds me of a very large and bloorpy puppy. She’s just too precious and big thank you to all the keepers for helping out this lovely girl.

(Ahem) I mentioned this under the Fiscal Responsibility post.

And now I am in moderation.

Wow, next week she’ll be doing a keg-stand! (just pure milk, of course ;-D )

(hmm, I’m in moderation too – is this something new?)

I love all the happy schlurps and the opening and closing nosicles! They sort of look like eyes. Sort of.

That burp just about killed me. Go, Fiona!

I received this update from the zoo and sent it on before anyone else today. YIPEE!! I love the way she’s figured out she has to let go of the nipple periodically so it can re-inflate and she can get more of that yummy stuff!! Seems like all the bottle fed guys don’t take long to figure that one out. Wonder how many toofies she has now. We haven’t seen the inside of her mouth for a while. Wonder when they’ll start giving her veggies to munch on. I know we’ll get to see when that happens.

Flowerfanatic, I have to keep reminding myself that, time-wise, she is newborn now, allowing for prematurity. She’s doing so well that I have to force myself to remember that all her milestones start now. I’ve lost my heart to a number of animals, but never a hippo!
(Why do I not have a hippo emoji?!)

I’m happy Fiona is eating more. A greedy baby is a healthy baby.
