The Turing Test

When this dog encounters a statue of Alan Turing in Manchester, UK, he doesn’t have enough intelligence to know it’s artificial, so he wants to play a game with the imitation.

What an enigma, Murray C.

Quite a stubborn statue – not in a playful mood.

      He’s a might stiff ..

I hadn’t realized the statue was of Turing.

The camera’s giggle-shaking is especially endearing.

If you’re paying attention to NTM’s calendar you will see it’s the Spring Equinox as well as World Sparrow Day – but did you know it’s also World Happiness Day???? Yessiree, boys and girls, it is. So be happy dagnabbit, not a disapproving rabbit! (sorry, the devil made me do it.)

“Dagnabbit”? Thanks Murray C. That did it! 😀

Is this some kind of Turing Test?

    • Doug March 20, 2017 / 2:01 pm

      yes

What is amazing to me is the assumption by the dog that anything in human form would, of course, throw the stick.

That’s a doggie version of a test to detect authentic humans. Robotic programmers and alien body snatchers would be wise to take note.

Stick fetching dogs may be our first line of defense from cyborgs or invaders from other planets.

Faye, I think you’re on to something!

So it’s a Canine Test for Turings.

Dogs can even identify uniforms! Sgt Stubbs, from the first world war, once attacked a German scout who had snuck into the American trenches to map them out.

Loukaniko, the famous Greek protest dog who would bark at police, was reportedly initially confused when he saw police officers (on strike) facing off against riot cops trying to disperse the protest. But as always, the second batons came out Loukaniko sided with those being attacked.

I had to read the caption a couple of times before I saw the artificial intelligence and Imitation Game references. Evidently I’m barely capable of passing a Turing test myself.

Coincidentally, I last night I began watching the first season of West World. Highly technical Science Fiction mixed with cinematically stunning panaramic homages to old movie Westerns. Heartbreaking storyline. Turing would not even be able to formulate a test.
