It’s National Puppy Day

Today is National Puppy Day, a day to honor perhaps the most loving, trusting, cuddliest creatures on Earth. But let’s also salute the tireless moms who carry them, raise them, lick them clean, and play with them.

First mom is so photogenic. Second mom looks like she could use a stiff drink. Third mom has me exhausted just from watching her. She’s expending at least as much energy as her potato-shaped babbies.

I think the lab mom is trying to distract her puppies from her nipples. C’mon, don’t you want to play? How about some running around, maybe get all tired and sleepy?

I have that problem all the time.

My first thoughts on the first picture and the video were “That poor dog.” ? ?

Me too. Can you imagine how much worse it’s going to be for her when all 11 of them start walking?

Do chocolate lab puppies drink from the chocolate milk nipple?

Love all these mamas and babies. The labs especially stole my heart with all the tail-wagging.

All those puppies running around and they hardly made a peep? All I heard was mom’s panting as she ran and a few tiny squeaks.

Top pic reminds me of a plate of sushi…

I wonder if lab mom was a little stir crazy. Yay for all puppies and for happy dog moms whose hoomins take good care of them. (And yay for the good hoomins.)

Hm I didn’t know a yellow lab mum can have choco babies, maybe daddy is a choco lab?
Or they all started out as choco but after a few pups the cartridge ran low?
Or simply what Debg said and they drank from the choco nipple.

My friend’s sister’s Black Lab and her mom’s Basset Hound got together and made 11 babies (though only 8 survived). Of the survivors, five were all black, two were black with brown markings kinda like tiny Rottweilers, and the last was blonde. Looked like her Yellow Lab got into the mix somehow. That was when I saw them at about two weeks old. They kept one of the Rottie look-alikes and her coloring changed as she got older; she ended up looking like a Basset Hound – brown, black, and white with some dapple patches, but with shorter ears and longer legs. (She also had a tendency to lose her voice from barking and often sounded like a seal. 😛 )

      Also,

Haha what an unlikely couple: basset hound & lab, but I can imagine the pup they kept is cute 🙂
I have been thinking about buying a printer for home, maybe such a kitten printer is available at my favourite IT shop. Thanks for the idea, Allein 🙂

          Good luck!

It actually works like hair color in humans– dark is dominant, blond is recessive. So, a yellow/black pairing can result in either all black pups or pups with 50/50 chance of being black or yellow. (I had a student who studied heredity for Science Olympiad, so we did lots of genetics of cute things 🙂 )

Lab Mom is so energetic! If I were her, I’d be hiding out in the pantry with a box of Milk Bones. It’s so sweet at the end when she lies down to let them all refuel.
